What is Authoritarianism?

IF you are an authoritarian, then you believe that your arriving at this page is a MISTAKE. When you have read a little further, you will begin assuming negatives triggered by phrases which challenge the simple black and white perspectives you believe to be the foundations of truth and belief. You will likely take pride in being able to determine the evil you hate just by skimming over a few words from each sentence or paragraph and projecting the opposite of what is actually written here. In short, you KNOW all there is that is worth knowing and no one is going to tell you anything different!

IF you are NOT authoritarian in attitude, belief and behavior ... you will likely benefit from the analysis made of them below. It can provide you with an understanding of the 60% of politically organized, mass educated humanity whom you find most resistant to change, most intolerant of others, most proud, most abusive, most powerful, most manipulative, and most influential amongst those you meet. Understanding helps us cope and helps us to be compassionate rather than condemning. That does not mean that you choose to agree with them or to support them. It means accepting what you can't change and interacting with as little conflict as possible.

The Myth of Leadership is asserted as necessary and god given in the ideology of Authoritarianism, Conservativism, Fundamentalism, and Fascism beliefs. These beliefs are defined in black-and-white terms, which is why followers of them are so adept at simplistic, and often irrelevant reasoning. To the emotionally desperate and intellectually confused, these simplistic and all-negative IMPOSED principles provide a direct entry into the physically close world of universal deference.

Authoritarians have an addiction to POWER.
It is too simple and incorrect to assume that this is the same as conflict, reaction, or imposition, even though it is often expressed in all of these ways. They cannot cope well with the individuality of others, only with their assumed role. They are bearers of the truth and facts and any question of their correctness is met with defensiveness at the threat of rejection. A discussion usually means making you agree with them. They cannot sincerely listen, believing that they already have all the answers they need.

If you do not take their words personal and assume they know what they are saying, they will often become angry, shocked by the illogic of your exception. How can you not be reverent of the principles they worship which promise them power, privilege, acceptance, and glory? If one wants to disable one's emotions so as to leave the mind open to traumatic patterning and intense imprinting, one technique is to repeat threats. One's emotions often tire quickly from fear. Traumatic acceptance or numbing in often follows. Authoritarians have nothing to share with you. They have nothing to discuss. They tell you what they believe you should already know.

Independent thinkers may refer to them as "simple-minded", "abusive", "aggressive", or "tyrannical". In turn, they may project that your use of these terms only acknowledges their superiority ... because you don't accept the truth they know and revere the human leaders they worship ... not because they are wrong but because their faith is beyond your commitment. Others consider them strong because of their ability to use action rather than words. Simplicity is often for the sake of an IMAGE of intelligence: disinformation. If your frustration builds to anger, you have lost in their supra-emotional world. They seldom take responsibility for their feelings, placing that responsibility on you who have dared to question the validity of their revered "masters".

Mentors and ministers of such faith turn the spiritual into easy-to-manipulate physical icons. The magic (control of God) by the use of doctrines and rituals (hypnotic), phrases, verses, books, idols, money, possessions --- mesmerizes many needy persons into a wonder and reverence for the physical. It is as old as the golden calf of the Jewish (Old) Testament, or the (superstitious) burial of the bones of revered parishioners in the cornerstones of medieval churches.

A danger is that the same reasoning sanctioned the following by millions of Germans during WWII a regime promising to bring peace and prosperity through righteous hate and torture. It is the same dangerous reasoning that led to the burning execution of hundreds of thousands of women, children, and men acting out from grain mould toxicity rather than from evil spirits. It is the same short sightedness and ethnocentrism which has prompted every genocide, war, and vigilante movement.

The Principles frequently espoused by Authoritarian believers include these:

• Evil is everywhere.
• Negatives are always the fault of others.
• Someone else can always rescue you.
• Affiliations are personal and exceptional.
• One should be vigilant of all persons.
• ONLY the negative should be feared, and noted.

Targets for Slavery?

A belief that is NEEDED, and NOT supported by critical reasoning and experience can only be accepted by persons who are so emotionally and intellectually distracted as to accept over-simplistic and irrelevant statements. These people NEED to believe. Yet a need, rather than a desire, is compulsive-obsessive. Emotional and intellectual needs are built on inner weaknesses. Balancing and energy block development, outlined elsewhere on this site, provide powerful resolution and support of and for these Needs.

Compulsions for the emotionally stunted result in Difficulty with issues.
How can you cope with something you cannot keep an open mind on? How aware can you be of something which is automatic? If you simply react to words or phrases to which you have experienced emotion based traumas and built energy blocks, you won't even be consciously aware enough to realize that you ARE reacting? Compulsions are addictions. You do them because of an expected benefit, which is illusory, and often does not become real or only becomes real temporarily.

Abandonment and Rejection energy blocks, imprinted irreverence, and an Oral Character are together almost a guarantee that you will be attracted to Fundamentalist/Authoritarian perspectives --- particularly if you do NOT have a university education or a personality with an intellectual strength. Most humans, planet-wide, have abandonment energy blocks. The number of persons in countries with developed economies likely having imprinted irreverence may range as high as 40%. Persons with imprinted or energy block imposed Oral Characters vary in percentage of presence according to nation and degree of historical authoritarianism.

Rejection energy blocks are more often developed with emotionally sensitized persons. This sensitivity is encouraged by the inheriting of large numbers of energy blocks, being constantly yelled at or criticized by one or more parents, and, receiving real or perceived rejection from a significant other ... who may be a brother, sister, close friend, or other favored relative. It becomes a PERCEIVED Rejection if one feels emotionally attracted to a person (infatuation) who does not reciprocate these feelings and cannot acknowledge you because you do not exist in their scope.

What ARE the Attractions of Authoritarian beliefs?

• Confidence of membership without restriction;
• Confidence that one will find total acceptance;
• Confidence that love can be bought with exchange;
• Confidence that evil can and must be beaten;
• Confidence that appearance can replace sincerity;
• Confidence that future can be directed by another;
• Confidence that you can force change in others;
• Confidence that discipline can protect others;
• Confidence that your leader knows all;
• Confidence that you magically can release guilt.

Slaves are persons who willingly follow the direction of Leaders so as to avoid Risk. In a world of turmoil and change where one's direction is often substantially influenced by the attitudes and actions of others, it can be a great comfort to believe that a person who has, or appears to have, Great Power, will take the risks and make the decisions that will provide a stability for oneself. You only need decide to follow. You will be told how to do that, what to say, how to act, what to worship, what to ignore, what to deny, what to eat, when and how long to sleep. Slaves are promised a life without anxiety, strife, need, uncertainty. At what cost is it delivered?

How did it get here?

Authoritarian proponents will point to their heritage as justification for their authority, their knowledge, their Special Status. They may quote endlessly from all of the dead heroes who populate the text books of their culture, or the world, with philosophical or religious sayings. They build on the Greatness of Others who are worshiped for the IDOL of the Record of their experiences and feats. The deception is that whatever is written is the truth and reality, untainted by the perceptions of the human recorders, the errors of the transcribers, the political will of the proponents, the language differences, the cultural standards, and the personal realities of the originator. Most often, the Founder must be made god.

In times of crisis we need leaders to provide a focus for the activities of the many who are distracted into confusion through bereavement, panic, shock, and ignorance. The person who is emotionally isolated from these terrors steps forward to take Control where disorder exists. Pandemics, wars, floods, drought, earthquakes ... all call for a Confident response if a constructive reconstruction and adaptation are to result. For the emotionally weakened, confusion and risk abound. And Risk must be avoided at ALL cost if one is to avoid further Rejection through error. A Leader takes the Risk and the Responsibility for us. We bask in their Correctness as Followers; we avoid their Errors by discharging their leadership as tainted.

37-41 AD: Caius Caligula Caesar was the son of Germanicus Caesar and Agrippina I. He grew up in a military camp where his father's soldiers nicknamed him Caligula ("Little baby boots"). His father died when Caligula was 19, and his mother and two elder brothers perished in the purge organized by Tiberius. Upon the death of Tiberius, Caligula was proclaimed emperor to the exclusion of Tiberius's own grandson, whom he later executed.

He pledged cooperation with the Senate, but he soon began to rule in an autocratic manner. Caligula professed belief in his own divinity, and ordered altars to be erected to himself and worship to be paid to him. In Alexandria, the Roman governor, A. Avillius Flaccus, tried to force this worship on the Jews, and made their disobediences pretext for persecuting them.

Caligula attended his father in his expedition to Syria.
After his return, he lived first with his mother, and, when she was banished, with his great-grandmother, Livia Augusta, in praise of whom, after her decease, though then only a boy, he pronounced a funeral oration in the Rostra. He was then transferred to the family of his grandmother, Antonia, and afterwards, in the twentieth year of his age, being called by Tiberius to Capri, he in one and the same day assumed the manly habit, and shaved his beard, but without receiving any of the honours which had been paid to his brothers on a similar occasion.

While Caligula remained in that island, many insidious artifices were practiced, to extort from him complaints against Tiberius, but by his circumspection he avoided falling into the snare. Caligula affected to take no more notice of the ill-treatment of his relations, than if nothing had befallen them. With regard to his own sufferings, he seemed utterly insensible of them, and behaved with such obsequiousness to his grandfather and all about him, that it was justly said of him, "There never was a better servant, nor a worse master."

But Caligula could not even then conceal his natural disposition to cruelty and lewdness. Caligula delighted in witnessing the infliction of punishments, and frequented taverns and bawdy-houses in the night-time, disguised in a periwig and a long coat; and was passionately addicted to the theatrical arts of singing and dancing. All these levities Tiberius readily connived at, in hopes that they might perhaps correct the roughness of his temper, which the sagacious old man so well understood, that he often said, "That Caius was destined to be the ruin of himself and all mankind; and that he was rearing a hydra [392] for the people of Rome, and a Phaeton for all the world."

Caligula lived in the habit of incest with all his sisters; and at table, when much company was present, he placed each of them in turns below him, whilst his wife reclined above him. It is believed, that he deflowered one of them, Drusilla, before he had assumed the robe of manhood; and was even caught in her embraces by his grandmother Antonia, with whom they were educated together. When she was afterwards married to Cassius Longinus, a man of consular rank, he took her from him, and kept her constantly as if she were his lawful wife. The rest of his sisters he did not treat with so much fondness or regard; but frequently prostituted them to his followers.

Caligula evinced the savage barbarity of his temper chiefly by the following indications. When flesh was only to be had at a high price for feeding his wild beasts reserved for the spectacles, he ordered that criminals should be given them to be devoured; and upon inspecting them in a row, while he stood in the middle of the portico, without troubling himself to examine their cases he ordered them to be dragged away, from "bald-pate to bald-pate."

After disfiguring many persons of honourable rank, by branding them in the face with hot irons, Caligula condemned them to the mines, to work in repairing the high-ways, or to fight with wild beasts; or tying them by the neck and heels, in the manner of beasts carried to slaughter, would shut them up in cages, or saw them asunder. Nor were these severities merely inflicted for crimes of great enormity, but for making remarks on his public games, or for not having sworn by the Genius of the emperor.

Caligula compelled parents to be present at the execution of their sons; and to one who excused himself on account of indisposition, he sent his own litter. He burned alive, in the centre of the arena of the amphitheatre, the writer of a farce, for some witty verse, which had a double meaning. AUTHORITY is sometimes an excuse for acting out the anger and rage against many, and with great amplification, that which one has felt towards oneself at an early age.

The secure and emotionally healthy individual is a leader onto themselves.
They can remain calm in times of crisis. They are self-aware and inviting of information and experience which can provide them with greater discernment of options and risk. Frequently, their breadth of openness and awareness is an attitude of reverence and respect for all things such that all is acknowledged and rejections are singularly personal and significant by experience rather than by individual or time. They may decide a course of action today, which they acknowledge as best in another time and place. They may support an issue or a candidate today that is relevant for them, yet, abandon or work against it at another time when it proves destructive.

Any way you choose to explain or justify a commitment to these beliefs, they rest on the acceptance of an external, often Human, authority, who determines your values and your decisions ... your life and your future. How much rests on Magic? How much is attached to a concept of a god and a Universe which defies our complete understanding by its enormity and complexity? In the latter, one's ability to cope demands an openness to ever new revealed insights and the possibility of Direction or Guidance from the Spiritual source which unifies all. In the former, ALL is known by a fellow human, who has earned the title of EXPERT because they show a greater ability than ourselves to take Risk and assume Reward.

Why it is hypnotic.

Authoritative and confident.
Fundamentalist and Fascist beliefs are always expressed with a certainty and sense of authority as to suggest that they are common sense and totally rational. For those without positive self-esteem and Basic Personality traits of aggressiveness (action), individuality, and justice (truth-equality-order-respect) ... the unconsciously communicated suggestion is that you have to be stupid, or evil, to disagree or suggest that you don't understand perfectly. There is no room for confusion, question, or dissent. This very attitude communicates intolerance while saying that all is to be tolerated.

Hypnosis depends upon communication which is consistent, authoritative, and accepted without question. It is a learning mechanism long used in religions (ritual), education (teachers, instructors), medicine (doctor-knows-all), politics (dictators, presidents), military (Generals, officers), and science (experts, geniuses). A class of people are sanctioned with telling others how to run their lives and what to think and are considered within the status quo as "beyond question".

Many people believe whatever these authorities say and use that confidence to try and gain acceptance and power amongst their peers by repeating the magical words of these human gods-mentors. They are often rewarded for their subservience and worship with acknowledgement from peers, a feeling of confidence and pride, and acceptance by the majority. Those, who lack the self-esteem to take the risks necessary for learning from experience look to those who have, or appear to have, taken the risks and succeeded. In particular, persons with a childhood experience of Rejection or Abandonment are terrorized at the prospect of Risk and the potential for failure with possible abandonment and rejection. Their heightened sensitivity converts the POTENTIAL into the REALITY and the POSSIBLE into the LIKELY.

Discernment between DANGER and HAZARD is missing for the person lacking self-esteem and over-sensitized to acceptance, acknowledgement, and rejection. Danger is present when we approach a choice which Demands a known action in order to remain safe, and accepted. In traffic signals, a RED or GREEN light are indications of Danger. We must stop at a Red light and drive through a Green light, or, we are likely to cause, or be involved in an accident. To pause and assess the safety of obeying the symbolic meaning of GO for GREEN and STOP for RED would result in traffic anarchy and the development of frustration and anger within most of the other drivers following the signaled meaning.

A HAZARD, is a caution that signals that we MUST be discerning and that a danger MAY exist which can change in its degree of SAFETY according to a number of varying factors. A YELLOW traffic light indicates that traffic which has been proceeding on a GREEN light, without question or consideration, MUST now, for the sake of SAFETY, prepare to engage the Rights and Freedoms of other drivers. Even as one had been given their share of Freedom of travel, one must now acknowledge the Freedom of other drivers who wish to proceed in a different direction that temporarily conflicts with our own. IF we FAIL to acknowledge the CAUTION of the YELLOW light, we fail to slow and observe traffic flow. We end up potentially driving through a RED light and striking another driver who is acting on their Right to drive through their GREEN signal.

CONFLICT results from an inability for two or more persons or parties to acknowledge and respect the Rights of the others involved. Such conflict at a traffic intersection is the most usual cause of traffic accidents. Personal injury, property damage, loss of life, and REJECTION in the form of legal charges, detention, and possible confinement may result from this loss of acknowledgement of others.

A REJECTION oversensitized person may have difficulty in discerning the differences between Danger and Hazard RISKS. If one were to drive through RED lights, stop at GREEN lights, and ignore YELLOW lights, the prospect for an Accident would be very high. Such a discernment difficulty would sabotage their concern for SAFETY and make them very prone to accident. In communication, this translates into being misunderstood, often, without an awareness that one has been misunderstood. When the REALITY becomes obvious through the actions and attitudes expressed by the other person, one is likely to feel Rejected. Yet this assumption of Rejection is based upon the expectation that their incongruent communication HAS been understood and that the other person has CHOSEN to conflict with it.

Historically we see the danger in this mass hypnotic learning.
Unable as a species to foster coping skills to constructively acknowledge and integrate differences of perception, experience, and desire ... we use our "civilizing" influence of authority sanctioned traditions (hypnotically induced and imprinted patterns) to impose and maintain ORDER. This imposed peace, dependent upon fear of rejection, prosecution, penalty, and abuse leads to continually suppressed anger. We have historically found a consistent way in which to allow this anger and rage to be expressed, for the good. Our authorities provide us with wars so that our aggression is dispensed on often contrived enemies and not against our leaders.

The hypnotic attraction of the authoritarian and fundamentalist structure of belief is that one can ENSURE acceptance by Following the CHOICES of another person who has a high visibility of ACCEPTANCE. If you choose to be on the winning side, how can you lose? If the WINNERS are presumed to be those with the greatest Confidence, most Power, and largest numbers of supporters --- who FEEL as we do, we have an opportunity to Share the stage with other LOSERS by following the Leader they have chosen to SAVE them through Acceptance. For the desperate, the anger which underlies INTENSITY often creates a context of Anxiety. There is a feeling that one MUST Accept the Leader who Accepts you, or, suffer a penalty of corresponding Intense Rejection. It takes an internally strong and confident person to walk out of a mob or rally

Hypnotic beliefs are FOCUSED and SIMPLISTIC.
They rarely come with any conditions, factors, alternatives.
RELEVANCY is usually excluded as a concept. RESPECT for individual differences is usually excluded. A wholistic perspective requiring an awareness of many factors and a dynamic integration of these into a constructive result is usually denied. All of these DENIED possibilities take TIME and acknowledge the individual. They expose the weaknesses of authority systems and the injustices of global rules and regulations. This also applies to New Age, Humanist, AND conservative religious dogma.

What are we Missing by adopting hypnotic beliefs?
People are not (yet) clones, nor all agreeable slaves. That means they have individual Basic Personalities, hereditary and personal experiences (and energy block addictions), and differences of financial, material, spiritual, social, and political resources. That equals CONFLICT. Denying the conflict does NOT make it go away. It just hides it.

IF we want love, harmony, and contentment then we MUST work through the conflicts we encounter. Those who have the best conflict resolution (coping) skills will end up the ones who truly are more loving and loved, more happy, and more content than those who are unendingly expressing conflict without resolution, and, those who simply bury it for another day, or, discard it and the opportunity that comes with it for sharing, happiness and greater fulfillment.

By avoiding the development of constructive coping skills for INTERACTION, what is then the purpose of the New Age and Humanist perspective? IF the BLONDs, or any other species, wanted to gain political control over humans, this IS definitely a rational, though simplistic option. Consider. Take a species. Encourage its members to believe in an ethic which discourages them from facing the reality of their species: individuality, sexuality, aggressiveness, selfishness, addiction. By denying all of the difficulties in these areas and acting as if they do not exist, the difficulties do NOT go away.

Distancing oneself from the realities of interacting means that the quality of one's interacting becomes more and more role and routine and less and less sharing and respectful and acknowledging of the other. Group cohesiveness increasingly centralizes to a dependency on sanctioned authorities. Special authorities basically run the lives of all the individuals by setting values, rules, and commitments for the drones. The result: SLAVES. Perfect control, if it worked.

Becoming Committed.

It has long been known that much of what is practiced as psychological therapy in North America is little more than placebo in effect and that similar periods of rest time have equal effect in enabling people to cope with emotionally disorienting problems. Fundamentally, this is psychoanalytic psychotherapy and similar super-rational "talk" therapies ... which were founded in specific ethnic cultures and whose effectiveness tends to be limited to those cultures. That a particular form of religious practice or counseling practice be shown to have little benefit or to be destructive, it is an act of insecurity and intolerance to take a position that for that reason ALL such practices should be avoided and denied.

The influence of Energy Blocks definitively WILL alter the ability of an individual to fully express some forms of emotions. It can be expected from this that IF there are healthy patterns of emotional expression including loosely defined steps or stages, that some people will have difficulty with some of those steps while others may find one or more steps impossible to experience. In grief, this is why we find some persons unable to complete a grieving process and continuing to live their present lives as mirrors of a past reality which has long since ceased to exist.

Persons who are restrained in their awareness of and participation in the reality of the present due to energy block influence cannot be FORCED into that awareness and acceptance through an imposition of necessary steps. Throwing a child who is afraid of water into a lake with the expectation that the child will give up its fear and spontaneously learn to swim without instruction or encouragement is the form of simplistic authoritarianism that may result in the child drowning, or, in being further traumatized for little more than the Ego satisfaction of the authority. It is sympathetic, empathic, and compassionate to be aware of and understand the limitations of others and encourage them to grow beyond those limitations through effective processes. Encourage, not demand.

It is insincere, defeatist, and equally authoritarian ... to assume that everyone is weak and must be protected from the difficult experiences in life because they lack constructive coping skills. To deny and cover up a true experience of loss with rationalizations and distractions, will never eliminate the loss. Doing so, as encouraged by many New Age approaches, simply addicts the grieving person to the distractions of ritual provided by the super-rational irreverent source. Such a direction can result in the participant increasingly distancing themselves from emotional experience and commitment until they are little more than robots mouthing the sayings of some would-be human god.

What benefit comes from authoritarian approaches to coping with human tragedy?

The conservative religious approach is to drift along in confusion and grasp, in desperation, onto rituals that distract the person from resolving their confusion. In other words, postpone taking responsibility for your life and assume that someone else will fill in for you ... the church, a congregation, other family members, God. At worst, an individual may become bedridden or otherwise unable to cope with day-to-day realities and impose their responsibilities on all who choose to be around them out of duty or friendship.

The Authoritarian and Fundamentalist approach is to address intellectual confusion with Emotional Reactions which promise to bring Order through Imposition. Nothing is ever good because you can always construct a rational excuse against it. The power of Emotion (Ego and SuperEgo), not of wisdom (Spiritual Guidance), is used to irreverently assert that bad things happen to everyone because either an unloving god makes it happen (it was just fate), and/or, the pain is something you deserve as a sacrifice for the benefits that lie ahead for you! That is, you must earn Acceptance by denying victimization, ignoring Injustice, and remaining Subservient.

The MAGIC of the Fundamentalist approach is that you are told to see yourself as a follower. You are told that your Leader has taken responsibility for you and that your Acceptance is Reward for your Faith (Confidence) in their Authority. You have no actions to take, tasks to do, or achievements to enact. They have all been done by your Leader for you. Your Leader has taken all the Risks and made all the Commitments. It is by your purchasing favor with the Leader that you get to share in the Rewards. There can never be any Guilt or Shame in following the Person who Knows the ONLY best direction.

It is no coincidence that the most destructive and abusive organizations in recorded human history have taken the form of Authoritarian and Fundamentalist organizations. Such forms of mass interaction have the capacity to aggregate huge numbers of Followers, often through mass media deception and manipulation, and to acquire large material resources to focus into tools of Power. These may take the form of a military force, economic order, political or religious membership. For those who lose and are held responsible for their actions by the winners, they were only following orders, doing what everyone else does, avoiding torture and exclusion. No Guilt is felt by the troops who have beaten, murdered, embezzled from, tortured, or gossiped about. They were only doing their duty and showing allegiance, AGAINST others whom they accused of the same Wrongs!

A truly Spiritual approach to social harmony would be to acknowledge the capabilities AND abilities of the individual and not to try to regiment everyone into patterns of experience which will be irrelevant to some, and incapable by others. A Spiritual approach would be to be aware of constructive approaches and to be aware of factors which provide conflict to the utilization of those coping skills. Without these considerations there can be no compassion. Love without compassion is selfish and insincere. Participation, neither denial nor imposition.

A Spiritual approach to social harmony would encourage energy block release for freedom, awareness of abandonment patterns for self-direction, and the resulting choices to assume responsibility for the continuing experience of life to the degree and in the time which is achievable and constructive for oneself and those who interact with you.

Depressive Denial ?

"We don't get into heaven by the works we do. We get there because of our faith in Jesus. ." This was a statement recently made to me by a person who considers herself to be a Christian. As a fundamentalist, she believes that whether one makes any effort to improve their behavior or attitudes is irrelevant. The work of the Follower is meaningless. As long as one asks sincerely for Salvation a few seconds before they die, they can conduct the rest of their lives in whatever fashion they choose. Evidently, her meaning of Faith is ... to say a Magical set of words ... which will force God to forgive all that has been done, with choice and intent and awareness, selfishly, and reward one automatically. How is this different from the worship of an IDOL?

Follower-Leader co-dependence is the result of a powerless person owing their existence, freedom, and happiness to an all powerful and responsibility absorbing individual or entity. If you can NEVER take credit for any action or achievement you take, how much self-awareness and self-esteem can you have and develop. Self-awareness often develops from an individual taking the Risk to experiment and practice and by so doing determine which skills they can more proficiently learn and which activities more easily motivate them.

Self-esteem often grows from the success one experiences when they have completed a difficult task to satisfaction or some other valued activity, and, receive acknowledgement from themselves and others. Yet, if all that you do has been preordained by God and only made possible by the Grace of Jesus, it is they who deserve the credit, not you. This belief practice ALWAYS leads to emotional depression and a spiritual weakening.

Many children have had their lives and feelings dictated to them by authoritarian parents who piously take on the role of Savior to their children. Even as they have surrendered their Ego and SuperEgo to the direction of a minister, priest, the symbol of Jesus, and selected wordings from ancient scriptures --- so they now demand the obedience and servitude of their children to them as parents. Responsibility and the growth of discernment is denied. All they need to know for happiness and peace and order in their lives is what to do when I say "Jump". The child is forced to cease growing emotionally and to remain self-centered. All of their life will now be considered from the standpoint of "What do I have to do to get what I want: Acceptance, and Privilege?"

Stunted emotional development most clearly develops when a mother or father treat their child as a perpetual infant. They make all of the decisions for their boy or girl regardless of their age or capability. The child never has an opportunity to develop self-esteem, self-direction, self-restraint, or self-reliance --- just obedience. Since they do so little to bring happiness to themselves, they learn to depend on others for their life experience, and, to blame others for whatever they lack. They have nothing to share, for they create nothing. Creation demands risk, the humility of failure, the benefit of learning, and the triumph of success. Co-dependence means having to do something in order to receive what you want.

IF God gives us everything we want, isn't that a statement that God has also determined that we simply be faithful robots. If we come into life with every step preprogrammed, then we have no choice, or, choice IS the greatest evil. Many Fundamentalists frequently reference a "spiritual" approach as assuming that whatever happens to you is for a good reason and was intended by the god, not above and universal, but the god of Jesus the man, who will only help those who reverently call his name. In other words, if you were more spiritual, you would not have been robbed, raped, run over, past over, ripped off, abandoned, or saddened. If you were more obedient, more a follower, less of a thinker, less emotionally, and less independent -- you would be Saved from all of the anxieties and possibilities, of CHOICE.

The belief in an evil world threatens us.
Like the infant that believes its world is totally controlled by its parents, the Authoritarian participant imposes their reality on the 2-year-old. The world is always happening to one. The world is composed of many people, many other living forms, and physical processes -- all of which you and I have no control over, AND, many of whom have choice and needs and desires NOT identical to our own. Yet the domination of the fundamentalist authority provides a reality in which there is only one set of values and standards and only one option for most choices. You may not perceive conflict in this fantasy world but you will also seldom be acknowledging your own true feelings, wants, and needs. To do so, with such a fantasy, would equal constant overwhelming depression.

If Reality is Depressing, Fantasy will Rescue.
Responsibility happens when we take our part in reality and acknowledge our choice and the potential for that choice to contribute constructively to the whole (good) or to impose destructively on the whole (evil). A problem for species survival is inflexible response to change. Irrelevant decisions and actions inevitably lead to disaster, loss, and death. Relevancy demands coping with reality for effective, efficient, beneficial solutions. IF one wanted humanity to slither away into oblivion, imprinting New Age thinking onto the participants would be a no-brainer.

Living in a REAL world entails experiencing good and bad, positive and negative, likes and dislikes, joy and pain, failure and triumph. If you call all of those experiences negative, you have no differentiation between them and no reason to learn ways to increase the presence of some and diminish the repetitiveness of others. Life becomes a despairing existence of protection from, attack on, and defence against everything human. Then we hear people saying: "What is wrong with you? You should be happy!" We are told what is RIGHT to think, feel, say, and do.

In a Spiritual Perspective we acknowledge that the world has been created and that there is choice. Part of the benefits we can experience from that reality is to determine what the constructive and destructive patterns are and how we can best participate in them. That means taking active responsibility for the reality we experience and that we bring to others. That means coping with conflicts and disharmonies and not denying them and hoping they will go away.

Nor does it mean encouraging the spread of conflicts and disharmonies by making them god-given because we are cowards or afraid to participate and share ways to change those destructive patterns into constructive ones. Ignorance can be a choice. Fear can be a motivation. Safety can be a motivation to AVOID Risk. Safety and fear look to cloned knowledge. Learning takes place second hand from the theories, leaders, and experts. The Fundamentalist perspective makes specialization and skill concentration an art, and, a statement of self-centeredness directed towards what is offered in return.

RESULTS of Authoritarian and Fundamentalist influence.

What is promised to the adherent?

• You can have everything you want;
• You don't have to make any effort to get it;
• Love is all around you and waiting for you;
• You are never responsible for the wrongs you do;
• If I don't see it, it isn't there or important;
• Your human god is the sole master of your future;
• Only the masses have power to change the world;
• Focus on the negative and it will go away;
• Only the leader can solve any & all problems;
• You can only do what you have been allowed to do.

That is NOT Me!

Many authoritarians are in denial about THEIR part in the abuses and power displays of the systems which they support, often, without question. What they fail to recognize is that authoritarianism is NOT about leaders as much as it is about Followers. For every general, there are hundreds of thousands of troops. For every national president or prime minister, there are often millions or dozens of millions of citizens. For every business CEO, there are frequently tens of thousands of workers. Without followers, autocratic leaders with huge aggregations of power would cease to exist.

Slavery has been euphemized in the modern age and an image of obvious physical and sexual abuse has mythically been used by today's fundamentalists to distance themselves from the reality of the past. The truth is that wherever there has been a commercial culture, there has been slavery. As soon as individuals give up their choice and ability to be self-sustaining, they increasingly must rely upon the unpredictability of the actions and perceptions of others. It has often been a case of trading one form of risk and security for the promise of another form.

Weather and climate are not digital scales of rigid patterns of temperature, precipitation and other variables. There are a large number of factors influencing the final result. Some of those are galaxy wide in terms of scope and thousands of years in pattern extent. Others are tied to energy production cycles of the Sun and these introduce patterns spanning seasons, 11- and 22-year cycles, as well as others which are shorter, longer, or varying in our knowledge of them. Still other cycles of influence radiate from geothermal, volcanic, earthquake, and lightning instances and intensity variations ... many of which are poorly understood. Humans have also influenced these patterns by their own land use and abuse decisions. The largest computers in the world in 2005 are still little more reliable than the behavioral responses of sensitive animals when applied to 24-hour periods.

When agriculture increased in popularity over that of hunting and gathering, several major changes were introduced into human survival and risk. Hunting and gathering presented a daily demand to find fresh food for nutrition and a willingness to often change home location to prevent overuse of the local ecology. Sickness, or extended conditions of poor weather could frustrate food acquisition and result in short-term starvation or even death from starvation. Agriculture enabled individuals to produce much more food, for storage or trading, than one personally needed. Through a segregation of roles, different individuals chose to grow different crops according to potential demand from others. The consumer often determined the values of the market. Prices rose as demand increased and supply decreased, if, the public perceived the product or crop desirable.

As markets increased in size and served larger populations over larger areas with increasing varieties of products, so also the risk of security and debt increased. With the same amount of work, one might reap huge prices/value for a crop of good yield and quality. Yet, others could become envious of the success of the earlier pioneer and choose to grow the same crop in the next year with expectations of similar returns. If the market demand did not increase sufficiently, and all the farmers benefited from high yields, there could be too much supply and those who did not lower their prices might not sell the surplus from their crop. The farmer still had to acquire other lifestyle products which he or she did not produce themselves.

Inevitably, in a commerce driven economy, the best of economic intentions will fail on a periodic basis due to all of the unpredictable and unstable influences which the individual cannot control, and often cannot clearly foresee. These temporary failures create challenges to material survival and an eventual reliance or dependency upon others. This dependency typically takes the form of a debt, loan, or other sacrifice. Usually, the person making the sacrifice wants a premium or interest payment for the Risk they perceive they are making in having to depend on your ability to repay them within a specific timeframe. If you fail to repay, they may become impoverished and become debtors to others.

The following modern dependencies of 2005 establish that you are in debt to others ... that you owe monies to others for services or products which you desire, need, or must have in order to provide your own entrepreneurial contribution:

• have an economical partnership;
• have accrual payments for taxes;
• have an unpaid credit card balance;
• have a loan, mortgage, unpaid balance;
• own and use products requiring power;
• are unemployed.

IF you are paying the administration who independently decides how they are going to use your taxes, fees, purchase profits, or other monies ... YOU are their slave and you are in full support of their actions and involvements. Hitler, Stalin, any Pope, any bureaucracy, any institution, any military force, any economic system ... were/are NOTHING without the support of their followers, slaves, and debtors. Every time you pay for something, are you aware of what you are supporting ... or is it mostly a form of blind obedience?

Idols for Simplicity.

Worshippers turn reality into a very narrow point.
A life without awareness can be a life with no point at all!

• ANY answer solves a problem.
• SOLUTIONS remove anxiety.
• CONFIDENCE removes fear.
• NUMBERS determine power.
• DEPENDENCY ensures acceptance.
• THINKING raises conflict.
• Let others do the thinking!

Worshippers do NOT have a relationship with their god.
They are too insignificant to deserve personal attention.
By surrendering ALL of their responsibility to another, they have the comfort of never assuming responsibility for themselves. Just do as you want in secret and private, and, do as others expect of you, in public. Worshippers only have a relationship with their idol ... the finite, unchangeable, written law, and, unwritten practices and expectations --- as interpreted by their leader and his centuries old imperfect rulers.

Soldiers for the Cause.

ALL the world is divided into those who accept you and those who reject you.
Those who reject you will hurt you and take away your feelings of joy and innocence.
Hate those who reject you. Respect those who have Power. Earn Acceptance by supporting those who have hurt and rejected you.

You cannot win against your abusive parent or mentor. But you CAN win, with the help of the Power of your abuser, against those they hate. Let them direct your hatred and become dependent upon you. Make them owe you. Then they will use their power to your benefit.

• My father/mother hates me.
• They ALWAYS find fault with me.
• I will find a more powerful Parent substitute.
• They also have very rigid standards.
• They have bigger numbers and benefits.
• I want to share their benefits.
• I will worship them.
• Tell me what to do!

Frontline soldiers are often created by parental abuse in the first few years of life.

Tyrants for Order.

Authoritarians grow up in disorderly orderliness.

• Everyone thinks like I do.
• What is yours is mine.
• I set the rules for all.
• What is mine is mine.
• Everyone FEELS like I do.
• You are bad when you are not me.
• You are bad when I cannot control you.
• You are bad when you don't obey me.
• You will be punished.

Having only a road to self-sabotage, one must revel in the only rewards of a robotic human: materialism, loneliness, appearances, power, and control. Despair and frustration promote vindictiveness, aggressiveness, selfishness, and abandonment. Like all addictions, the destructive pattern promises to deliver the NEED which it discourages fulfillment of.

Believers for Miracles.

IF you are a reactive person, you will likely not have much patience or tolerance for the consideration of ANY alternatives. This is another way of saying that you have little ability to cope with conflict and almost no perception that other people can have different assumptions and expectations and experiences from your own. STABILITY for the person who has been traumatized by an environment of emotional confusion and had the role expectations of their mentor imposed on their Identity, is fixed, simple, and highly defined.

Everything is black and white in the identity role acted out by the authoritarian, fundamentalist, or racist. If ALL of the questions have been answered in the PAST, you only need repeat these answers in order to be perfect. If you are perfect in your obedience to the experts, you SHOULD never be faulted or criticized. By assuming the mantle of your gods, you become as POWERFUL as your gods.

Anyone who would dare question you is equal to someone who, with great irreverence, would question your gods. Yet if decision making is all about reaction on the basis of connecting the dots between opportunity or challenge and direction or action ... one never need be proactive, and, one can never take responsibility for the decisions they make and the actions they take.

What happens when events go bad even though you have followed the rules?
If you do not have the FREEDOM to analyse, research, explore, discover, confer, or negotiate a relevant solution to a NEW consideration, then you are at a dead end. You can only wait for what you project from situations which highlight the inadequacies of your beliefs and the irrelevancy of your gods. Authoritarians use three forms of MAGIC to account for these losses.

One MAGIC excuse is to make others responsible for the ills which befall one.
These perceived ENEMIES, who do not worship one's own gods, are often determined to be the cause of the good-gone-bad result. The enemy may be called or defined in the singular or plural. Usually, these enemies do NOT consider you to be their enemy until you persistently make it clear that you consider them to be your enemy. This is usually done by your showing them disrespect, distrust, abuse, dishonesty, insincerity, anger, and hatred, all, without just cause, other than fantasy. Eventually, what you put out will reflect back on you ... and your projection will be confirmed as true!

Singular examples include the Anti-god, anti-Christ, Satan, whatever else is perceived as separate from the beliefs, sacrifice, and servitude which you define your identity by. This EXCUSE and DENIAL takes the position that, temporarily, hopefully, one's own gods have been overpowered, tricked, or sabotaged, by other gods which are considered to be immoral. They have manipulated the normal sequence of privilege to you in exchange for sacrifice by you and you are left cut off from your god.

Plural examples include foreigners, drifters, traitors, criminals, Jews, Arabs, Blacks, Whites, Aboriginals, Germans, Japanese, Italians, Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Moslems, fat-cats, managers, laborers, drunks, addicts, stars, politicians, industrialists, males, females, children, dogs, or, whatever else is perceived as separate from the beliefs, sacrifice, and servitude which one has chosen to follow. This excuse takes the position that, temporarily, hopefully, one has been overpowered, tricked, or sabotaged, by other groups of people which are considered to be less worthy than oneself. IF one maintains their commitment to their god and remains inflexible in the faith they hold in the past wisdom of their masters, they will, eventually be vindicated over the enemy.

A Second MAGIC excuse is often a belief in an IDOL.
This could take the nature of a mantra, amulet, abracadabra, lucky coin, golden calf, wand, solution, movement, chicken bone, book, saying, location, remedy, payment, oath, exchange, or, graphic or written symbol. These objects or symbols are believed to remove the POWER of the Enemies ... with the result of leaving you more powerful than they. Alternatively, they are believed to MANIPULATE your own god into more closely noticing you and making your gods pay attention to your requests and provide you with the benefits you have requested. Ultimately, the Confidence which this pattern of Belief brings, lessens one's state of confusion, anxiety, and depression ... in the same manner as a placebo drug. Yes, by the simple CALMING nature of these distractions, both psychosomatic symptoms (often Fear biased) and emotional tension encouraged ailments can be reduced, even eliminated, for some.

A Third MAGIC excuse is DENIAL.
This often takes the form that ignorance is justified by, and, a privilege.
If a question is raised which you do not have an answer for, it is not important.
IF it were important, you would already know the answer! If the question introduces confusion through a challenge of one's awareness, knowledge, or beliefs, ... you are being tested by a devil, who is either within your conscious, or, unconscious. An alternative is that this evil force is one or more persons who think and act as if they are more gifted than you. Since you are mirroring the words or actions of a human mentor who you believe was perfect and knew all, you cannot be wrong. The mere suggestion of wrongness results in a low self-esteem reaction of fear, defensiveness, and anger.

The following projections are maintained by the success of the above forms of MAGIC:

• Only my god loves me.
• I am NOT ignorant.
• My god is most powerful.
• The world is against me.
• My god will rescue me.
• Humility is a form of weakness.
• Change equals loss.
• Tradition is security.
• I will never admit my Guilt.
• I will be rewarded for my use of god.

Persons who compulsively cope with their low self-esteem depression by resting their whole future on the value and contribution of a miracle, believe that their own actions and efforts are useless, futile, and wasteful. Why be proactive, assertive, willing to learn, or self-aware? All of these demand that one be self-directed and self-responsible. Those provide risks of conflict and rejection. It is simply easier to let someone or something take that responsibility for you.

Frozen in Time?

Quoting the Master of the PAST is demanded of those who worship other humans.
Below is a SHORT critique of Christian Fundamentalist beliefs. A similar critique could be made of the writings of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Lenin, Karl Marx, and most neo-Nazis, Islamic fundamentalists, and, orthodox Jewish beliefs.

The Greek and Hebrew of the original sources was translated into English hundreds of years ago by persons under the restrictions of a church which carefully selected WHICH books, and WHICH version, to include, WHICH to exclude, and HOW the words would be translated. There was little, if any, acknowledgement of or attempt to convey the meaning of local or tribal metaphores, idioms, or idiosyncracies. The translators, and their EMPLOYERS, were mainly interested in how to maintain their power, not on how to share the Truth. Hebrew scholars always have a hard time with our English mutations of their language. Much can be said the same for the Greek. English words in the space of a few hundred years may even mean the Opposite of what they did originally. There was no word in Greek for "church".

In the space of a few decades, the word "gay" in English means something totally different than it did previously for centuries. Legalistic interpretations of anything have always led to misunderstanding, mistranslations, and misinterpretations. I HAVE read the scriptures, but not as magical phrases to control God, influence others, or impose on others ... I read it for understanding.

If you are going to go by the letter of the Bible, without regard to the meaning, and without regard to the ability of HUMANS to grow in their understanding of what was available from God without their projections and expectations which filtered their perception, then you also support these:

• In Exodus, fornication merits death: today, that means we should execute your sons and 90% of North American teenagers, PLUS most adults under the age of 30.

• In the Old Testament, slaves are mentioned on at least 5 occasions, as acceptable practice, so you have nothing against forced labor from children, women, or the poor.

• In the Old Testament, suicide is mentioned at least 3 times in a positive, spiritually acceptable way, so you favor suicide!

• In Genesis, two daughters and their father flee into the wilderness to escape persecution and death at the hands of their enemies. With no other men around, and in order to maintain the heritage and longevity of the tribe, the daughters make their father drunk and then rape him so they will become pregnant. And this is considered Acceptable, so you believe in incest.

• It is ironic that we give so much credibility to Paul, who NEVER met Jesus, as a spokesperson for Christianity and Jesus, so that half of the New Testament can be credited to him. Paul says that men and women should NEVER marry and if they do they should NEVER have sex, or, they are unchristian. I guess that eliminates everyone who says they are Christian as fakes because in 2000 years with no children we would have a world population of likely 2 billion less, no hunger, and no pollution and few wars, and Very Few people calling themselves Christians.

• Jesus never learned to write and had a vocabulary of likely less than 7000 words, like all of his peers. Had he spoken more eloquently and with greater specifics, no one would have understood him. He didn't have to because they knew what he meant by his word-pictures and idioms. Today, most children have larger vocabularies before leaving public school and 10 times that before leaving high school. Trying to confine the meaning of a 7000 or less vocabulary within a foreign language of 200,000 words has never made much sense to me, or for many others. WAY, used 2000 years ago did NOT mean a phrase to be magically quoted so as to Avoid our responsibilities. It meant a Pattern of behavior and attitude, not a Key to use as a way to be rescued from one's childishness.

• You speak of a Triune God, but you have totally abandoned the Holy Spirit!
  Like most so-called Christian ministers, who may talk about the Spirit once a year, you seem to have thrown out 1/3 of the presence and reality of God. Why?

I REPEAT: A similar critique could be made of the writings of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Lenin, Karl Marx, and most neo-Nazis, Islamic fundamentalists, and, orthodox Jewish beliefs.

Getting Along!

Authoritarians know it all.
They will seldom admit to needing more information, advice, or help.
To do so would be an admission to them that they are fallible and open to criticism and guilt ... which they FEAR with terror.

Often they have been toxic shamed as children with the assumptions and accusations of their parents or mentors that they should be capable of adult maturity and intelligence, and, that they should MAGICALLY know what others mean and want.

Made to feel guilty and rejected by those most important to them, they avoid and REACT to any suggestion or word which indicates a possibility of holding them responsible (or connected) with anything THEY consider negative.

Authoritarians represent the largest attitude and behavior consistent group of persons in the ordered societies of the Earth. You WILL have to interact with them. Use the following guidelines to make the outcome of such contacts as positive as it can be. To do otherwise is to invite CONFLICT by trying to change their ADDICTION to destructive and emotionally infantile reactive patterns of thinking and communication.

1. Use short sentences.
2. Focus on them!
3. Avoid (their negative influence).
4. Use Short acknowledgements.
5. Never expect change.
6. Confirm.
7. Listen.
8. Never question.
9. Leave early!
10. Let them Win.
