INTRODUCTION.
LANGUAGE: Why use "so-called" and "so-termed"?
A great amount of misunderstanding and miscommunication in modern mega-cultures arises from the inaccurate use of common terms. A study of linguistics, and particularly political linguistics, quickly reveals that most of our confidence placed with persons and institutions who refer to themselves by words which denote very specific and positive values --- is undeserved. If we study the founding and defining principles of freedom, democracy, science, truth, wisdom, professional, and doctor and compare the description to the actual practice --- we find that 80% or more of instances are inaccurate. This is supported by Pareto's 80/20 Rule.
It is the direction of this website to provide information which is as practical, relevant, and truthful as possible. Public misperceptions and statements by social authorities which are plainly inaccurate must then be acknowledged as such. Persons who call themselves doctors yet do not have the health of the patient primary before their own status of authority are not true examples of what is defined as a doctor.
So, they merit the designation "so-called."
The same parallel exists for scientists and many other persons. The person who is sincere about maintaining good health must become aware of the difference between theoretical best guesses and real life experience. She, or he, has neither the time nor resources to devote to a discouraged process of information and advice sanitizing through trial-and-error discovery.
ATTITUDE: Why not just facts?
The founder of the site would like all people to have an opportunity to lead a positive, fruitful, and contented life. That goal cannot be achieved unless the person involved can determine reality from fantasy, find options, and choose confidently. The information on this site is presented to you with the expectation that you are an intelligent adult, or, have the supervision of an adult. An adult is defined here as a physically mature person who is self-responsible, independent minded, self assertive, and self aware.
Many cultures deprive their physically mature persons of the positive communication and thinking patterns noted above. Such persons may feel challenged by the prospect of that freedom and equality and prefer a more authoritarian perspective that treats them as children whose actions and beliefs must be prescribed. That is not acceptable here.
Many of the options for improving health mentioned on the site are supported by the real life experience of the principle author, John R. Sennett. Many times, he has used himself as a real example in the absence of other volunteers who would be comfortable in exposing themselves so directly, and, who might not have had the background information available which could put the examples into perspective.
The personal example approach is an extension of the extensive experience of Mr. Sennett in the areas of scientific research and market research which indicated that in most such literature the first casualty is the truth. Anything can be proven or falsified through the persuasive misapplication of statistics and simplistic test designs.
Anything can be supported or discredited through the use of imaginary testimonials and the frequent use of absolute wordings. Facts, as they are frequently presented to us, are half-truths lacking relevancy. A personal example is a reality. It happened. If it happened with one person, the possibility is that others could benefit. Results cannot be denied.
I DON'T LIKE ...: You are disturbing me.
We see in North America the result of communication which seldom exposes us to the realities around us. We are accustomed to the pleasure narcotic of fantasy entertainment so common to television, movies, and music. Such Ego-serving behaviors have yielded attitudes which readily accept the co-dependent social and personal relationships in which we expect others, acknowledged to have more social authority and power than us, to make decisions for us about our life. To cope with this removal of our freedom, we expect to make decisions about the lives of others if we have more power than they. This dynamic endangers health and is not supported by this site.
You are encouraged to become aware of real and practical alternatives.
You are reminded that some options may prove more practical and effective for you while others may be more appropriate for other persons. You are informed about the frequent weaknesses of bureaucratic and authoritarian systems which increasingly endanger your health and your spiritual strength. You are given tools to assist you in finding resources and developing skills which will make you stronger and encourage positive developments in your life and those around you. This freedom of choice and denial of a prescriptive one solution for all approach may trigger an awareness of the low self-esteem you carry, or, the high level of co-dependency you have become comfortable with. The easy, simple answers --- that frequently waste your resources, you can find elsewhere.
Nothing on this site is inaccurate by experience.
If you do not like some of the references to professions or practices, you have every opportunity to improve those areas so that many others like myself do not receive and are not subjected to misleading, discouraging, useless, irrelevant, or abusive advice or procedures. Saying you don't like hearing about it, doesn't change the reality. If you feel defensive about some of the statements made, ask yourself why. Are these your gods, the images of perfection that you have learned never to question or hold accountable?
In SUMMARY:
Anything you read about on this site represents an experience and a perspective. No one can ever demand that you avoid, or become involved in the experiences. No one is telling you that you have to believe or follow anything you read. Those may be the insinuations of the language presented elsewhere; they are not present here. Learn to recognize the difference. Your freedom of choice is promoted here endlessly. The question is what do you want to do with it?
