MD Uses Tapping Technique to Treat Chronic Illness
When Conventional Treatment Fails.

Los Angeles,CA (PRWEB) -- Most patients who visit urologists recite their symptoms, undergo lab tests, and receive a prescription or two. Those visiting Los Angeles urologist Eric Robins, MD, often get something extra - a lesson in tapping key acupuncture points. To their surprise, this simple addition to conventional therapy can help relieve recurring infections, chronic pain, and other symptoms. The procedure is called Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT, and Dr. Robins says it strengthens his patients' immune systems, improves their overall health, and reduces stress and anxiety.
"Whenever someone has a chronic or recurring problem," he explains, "I ask about anything, including emotional issues, that might affect the condition. Most physicians shy away from asking personal questions because it's like opening a Pandora's box - suddenly you have several problems instead of just one. But I'm convinced that's where the answers are."
Not only do physicians avoid conversations about emotional matters, he laments, but so do most psychiatrists. "Psychiatrists are primarily interested in psychopharmacology these days. Most don't get involved with the patient's past traumas. Instead, they treat abnormalities in the patient's brain chemistry. I think that's treating the effect, not the cause."
In most health plans, says Dr. Robins, the largest single expense is the cost of prescription drugs. "We're not going to become a healthier nation by taking more drugs," he says. "I'm convinced that more than 80 or 85 percent of our illnesses are simply the result of how we store and process stress. It's a well-known fact that most patients going to a primary care physician's office have functional medical problems, which means they have genuine symptoms, but their exams, lab tests, and x-rays can't find anything wrong. These people aren't crazy, they're perfectly sane, but their symptoms are not the result of an external cause. They're the result of how they hold stress in their bodies, and stored stress interferes with their energy flow. This contributes to everything from back pain and arthritis to bladder infections and susceptibility to colds and flu."
Dr. Robins encourages patients to look beyond their lab test results. "The best advice I can give any patient," he says, "is to go beyond the medical diagnosis and ask what stresses, traumas, and issues might be interfering with their health and well being."
...
Dr. Robins is convinced that almost all functional and chronic disorders - including infections, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine headaches, hypertension, and chronic fatigue syndrome - are caused by stress. "I've found EFT to be particularly effective in clearing the physical manifestations of stress and past traumas," he says. "It's the perfect complement to conventional medicine."
Because it's new, EFT is not yet familiar to most doctors and patients, but word is slowly spreading. An estimated 1,000,000 have downloaded the free training manual published by EFT founder Gary Craig at his emofree.com website, and another 5,000 to 10,000 download it each month. ...

Tips for working with SEVERE chronic fatigue syndrome (CFE/ME)
http://www.emofree.com/Articles2/cfe-me-25percent.htm
by Sasha Allenby from the UK
E-mail: sasha@bodymindhealing.co.uk
website: http://www.bodymindhealing.co.uk/
Among Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients, Sasha Allenby from the UK was once in the severely affected "25% group." EFT was instrumental in her recovery and she gives important pointers for readers dealing with this population. About her own situation she says, "Yet EFT can have amazing benefits for this group. I know this because I was one of this group several years ago, but made a remarkable recovery using EFT. The crippling pains that I was experiencing as part of this condition subsided with EFT, and with the help of Karl Dawson, I cleared much of the emotional turmoil that was at the heart of my condition.
.. Within the illness there is a “25% group” who are so debilitated by ME that they are often completely housebound, wheelchair and bed bound and dependent upon caregivers for their everyday needs. They are called the 25% group because about a quarter of those challenged with ME are in this group. This disabled state can last for years or even decades.
This is the group that needs us most as practitioners but the ones that we probably see the least. Although EFT is hugely popular with those who are overcoming CFS/ME in general, many in the 25% group have given up hope about healing from their condition and do not seek alternative therapies or hold out any hope that life could be any different.
Yet EFT can have amazing benefits for this group.
I know this because I was one of this group several years ago, but made a remarkable recovery using EFT. The crippling pains that I was experiencing as part of this condition subsided with EFT, and with the help of Karl Dawson, I cleared much of the emotional turmoil that was at the heart of my condition. I am totally dedicated to helping others overcome CFS/ME using EFT and have worked with a number of clients who are in the 25% group. So I thought it might help to share with other practitioners the considerations of working with the highly specific needs of this group.
Be aware as a practitioner that if you have been contacted to work with someone in the 25% group, it is usually by a family member or care-giver, so always ensure you have the permission of the client before you go ahead. In carrying out home visits what practitioners will probably find is a person who is extremely isolated from the world and who is often gripped by fear and anxiety. Many will be too weak to turn themselves in bed or take a sip of water independently, and they often cannot talk or think straight. They are likely to have light and noise sensitivity and severe pain, and to be lying in a darkened room, often wearing dark glasses.
People ask me where to start with a client in this condition.
The answer is to work extremely slowly using EFT.
Your long-term work as a practitioner is to find the core beliefs and life experiences which have contributed to the triggering of the condition. As a practitioner there may be a tendency to want to get to the underlying cause straight away. After all you have seen the benefits of EFT and know that overcoming key life traumas will benefit substantially. But this is a very long way off for the client in this group. So expect to work really slowly, and understand that progress can be non-existent in this condition without a tool such as EFT, so the fact that you inch forward is incredibly positive.
Introduce EFT and yourself very simply.
Perhaps something along the lines of, "I'm going to show you a technique which may help your recovery. We can start by reducing your symptoms. Is that OK with you?"
Then start by tapping on the symptoms.
If they can tell you what they are feeling in a word or sentence then great, but some will just lay there whilst you tap on them, and you can guarantee that they are tuned into their problem. Encourage your client to focus their mind on one symptom at a time if they can. And if they are not able to speak, try and find a method such as a hand squeeze to let you know that the symptoms are improving.
Tap very lightly, as lightly as you would tap on a new born baby, as the sensation of any physical contact can be extremely heightened due to the system being on red-alert. If your client cannot speak, you can speak the set-up phrase or reminder phrase for them, but speak in a whisper. Some will prefer silence. Obviously exclude the nine gamut at this stage. It might be weeks or even months before you can start the full EFT protocol.
In the meantime you can help the client to use creative visualization to heal the symptom or pain that you are tapping on whilst you speak for them, so that they feel involved in the process, and so that they are engaging their body-mind in the healing. You may only be able to work for 10-20 minutes at a time. End your session with a very short visualization of sending light and healing energy throughout the body either with or without tapping.
Spend some time showing the care-giver the EFT protocol, at the end of the first session. This way if you want to switch to telephone consultations after the first visit you have trained the care-giver to facilitate further sessions over the phone. Also encourage the care-giver to tap on the client several times per day as part of their routine if the client is willing, and to increase this very slowly to 10-20 rounds per day over the course of the next few months. If there is more than one care-giver, emphasize the importance of passing this information on, and try to talk to or work with the other care-givers at some point.
As the client’s cognitive function starts to improve you can also teach them to do imaginary tapping on their own throughout the day. Tell them about this quite early on, even if their cognitive function is not working, as they may remember it just from the sensation of being tapped. Of course real progress will have been made when they can physically tap on themselves.
When you have gained the client’s trust and you are starting to make progress on symptom management you can start to look at the underlying issues. But you may need to wait until there is some stabilization of the physical state of your client before you do this. Be respectful of your client and extremely gentle.
Some examples of what you might need to approach in the long-term are similar to most illnesses such as clearing the emotional issues around the illness; clearing events around the trigger to the illness; overcoming limiting beliefs about their ability to heal; clearing childhood and life trauma; addressing self-sabotaging thoughts or behaviours; addressing secondary gains, etc.
There is often a tendency to perfectionism with this group and they have often been very driven before the illness. Your detective work is to find out their life experiences that have created this tendency and resolve them with EFT.
Many of these clients also see the world as a dangerous place and again it is crucial to find out why they have this view and to shift their perspective with EFT.
I hope that any practitioners who are contacted by a caregiver of someone from this group will be encouraged to work with them. Following these basic guidelines should help the practitioner to feel like they have a good starting point, and as always the work will unfold from there.

Sonia Novinsky, one of our premiere EFT practitioners from Brazil, provides us with this persuasive example of the value of consistent daily tapping. The client, Cecilia, was given 2 days to live by her MDs but, with consistent tapping, she is ready to check out of the hospital with her cancer apparently under control. While we are not claiming a cancer cure here, it might be appropriate to bring this case to the attention of your physicians.

The importance of being specific in the EFT Setup Phrase.
http://www.emofree.com/articles/specific-setup.htm
by Dr. Tam Llewellyn-Edwards
Energy Therapy Practitioner & Trainer, Tickhill UK
The EFT basics are very easy to learn and very easy to use' However, a critical part is the 'Set Up'. If the 'Set Up' is not correct all the tapping and intent in the world is not as likely to solve the problem effectively. I would go further and say that in practically all cases where EFT is seen to fail the problem is usually not with the method but with the 'Set Up'.
Here is a simple example from my notes which demonstrates the importance of the 'Set Up Statement' well, as I was working with two people simultaneously. The 'set up' was right for one but not the other and the results showed it.
I was introducing, and demonstrating EFT in a series of presentations to nurses at the local Nation Heath Service Hospital in England. During these presentations I always give a number of demonstrations using volunteers from the audience as patients.
In this instance the volunteer was a male nurse, we shall call him Joe, who was struggling with a weight problem. He had dieted to bring down his weight, but always his love of (American Style) muffins foiled him and caused his weight to increase again. He asked that I remove his desire for muffins.
He did not have any at the time, but one of the other nurses offered one from her shopping bag for use in the demonstration - it was a nice looking chocolate muffin.
I used the standard EFT process, as I always do in these cases, and started by asking Joe to assess how much he wanted the muffin at that instant and he said that as soon as he saw and smelled it his desire was a 10 on a 0 to 10 point scale
At the same time one of the other nurses, we will call her Jean, spoke up that her desire was about 20 on the same 0 to 10 scale and she asked if she could also take part in the demonstration - so she joined in. We used the 'Set Up' - "Even though I crave that muffin - I'm OK"
Both Joe and Jean ran through the usual tapping sequence and Joe's 0-10 level fell rapidly. It was only raised slightly when he smelled the muffin, but immediately fell again with another round of tapping. On the other hand Jean's level remained stubbornly at 20.
In an effort to bring Joe's 0-10 level up from zero to test the therapy I asked him to taste the muffin and to eat it all if he wished, but he declared that he did not want to - in fact he did not think he even liked muffins any more! He was done.
When Jean, still at 20, heard me offer the whole muffin to Joe she cried out, "Just get him to leave a bit of the chocolate for me". That was the key. Jean was not craving the muffin, but the chocolate muffin or even just the chocolate.
Two further rounds with Jean using the 'Set Up' - "Even though I crave that chocolate muffin - I'm OK", brought her right down to a lovel of zero. When she tried to eat a chocolate chip from the top of the muffin, she spat it out and said it tasted bitter.
Joe had been addicted to muffins in general, while Jean was addicted to chocolate muffins. So they needed different 'Set Up Statements'. Even the slight error in not including the word 'chocolate' in Jean's 'Set Up' completely prevented EFT working
The muffin was a dark (plain) chocolate one, so one of the other nurses gave Jean a piece of white milk chocolate which she did not eat as she said it also tasted 'strange'
It would seem that Jean was addicted to chocolate, not muffins, so after the presentation was over I gave her a further short private session working more specifically on some remnants of her chocolate addiction.

Sneakin' in the back door for Diabetic Neuropathy.
http://www.emofree.com/articles/diabetic-neuropathy.htm
By Rebecca Marina
Angus MacLeod, an elegant, elderly, gentleman contacted me from the other side of the world, Australia, to see if I could help him with his very severe pain of diabetic neuropathy. Angus said that he had worked with other EFT practitioners and by himself and that he had never had any improvement whatsoever.
My hat is off to him that he still wanted to try EFT.
So anyway, I asked him what kind of "setup" phrases he had been using. He answered that he had used words like, "Even though I have this terrible pain," and "I want the pain to go away"
Anytime, I hear someone tell me they have tried EFT with no success, I handle it with my little "Back Door Policy". That is to address the problem in a round about way. Sometimes I don't even say that much about the actual condition. I have found that if you use the power of 'blood and oxygen' it handles just about everything! After all, you can't live without either one and they both have the power to heal anything!
You can see the work I did with live bloodcells on this site
http://www.emofree.com/Research/rouleaux.htm
I asked Angus how bad his pain felt at that moment and he said it was about an 8. I just sort of ignored that whole problem and told Angus that we would first just work on his breathing and get that going better.
He agreed.
Sometimes we put up unconscious resistance if we think we are under pressure to "get better right now".
With Angus, I used a variation of the very valuable breathing demo that is on your video training set,
EFT-Beyond the Basics,
formerly steps Toward Becoming The Ultimate Therapist.
https://www.emofree.com/eftstore
I had Angus take a deep breath in and measure it.
He felt it was about a 6, with 10 being a full breath.
So then we did a round of
"even though I have this constricted breath..." and his breath improved slightly.
Angus reported that he could not breathe fully because he felt a "shudder" at the back of his throat. So we then did a round of EFT for,"even though I have this shudder and cannot breathe fully I love and accept myself"
The shudder disappeared and Angus was able to take a full deep breath.
This was very important because I intended to use the power of his breath to reduce his pain. At the beginning of the session Angus stated that the pain in his ankles and feet from the diabetic neuropathy was at an 8. This pain prevented him from walking freely and severely limited his daily activities.
I now told Angus that we would use the power of his breath and blood flow to help his condition so we did a round for,
"even though I have this terrible pain I am asking my red blood cells to pick up oxygen and bring it lovingly to my feet and ankles."
We did another round for,
"even though I have this terrible pain I ask my red blood cells to absorb minerals, release lectins, and bring nourishment to my damaged nerves. I am asking the red blood cells and oxygen to begin to regenerate the damaged tissues."
We then went right into a round of
"I thank you feet and ankles for all you've done for me and I forgive you for giving out on me"
I asked Angus to check his level of pain and he had to get up and walk around a little bit to test it. He reported now his pain level was down to a level 2 and he was ecstatic!
Yes, EFT always works if you find the right way to work it!
We did this all in a free 20 minute session and I had no more time to try and get the pain all the way to zero as I had another client right behind him.
Interestingly, we did not touch on any emotions at all in this session, although, I usually do and find it very helpful for any condition.
The next week I e-mailed Angus to ask how he was.
He said the pain had returned, and he could not remember the words we had used. When a condition is chronic as well as organic, it is sometimes necessary to re-apply EFT often.
I offered Angus another session and purchased recording equipment for my telephone. At our next session, Angus was happy to report that the 'shudder' in his breathing report never returned, however, the pain of the diabetic neuropathy was back up to an 8.
In the new session, we used basically the same strategy as before and reduced the pain to almost a zero. There was still a just a bit of residual pain. Angus was simply delighted to know that EFT really does work. Sometimes, you just need a little professional help.
I am happy to say that I have mailed him the recording of our session and now Angus can do EFT everyday for his chronic condition. The belief factor doesn't hurt, he KNOWS that he got results using the power of blood and oxygen!
I highly recommend that practitioners purchase the recording equipment for clients with chronic conditions. The whole set up is under $150 at Radio Shack and most people will gladly pay you a few dollars extra to have this service.

Creativity with an allergy to turpentine and oil paints.
(Allergies with attached Core Issues.)
http://www.emofree.com/Allergy/turpentine.htm
By Angela Treat Lyon
... in one of my oil painting classes but a gal who reacts to turpentine and oil paints!
I was concerned for her about this, so on the first night (3 weeks ago) I taught her how to do the shortcut version of EFT, and she's been using it regularly (even at home) with very good success, being able to stay the whole class time without distress.
Tonight, she had been painting with one hand and had the other tapping down her face simultaneously - it was pretty funny to see.
But it suddenly got bad - her eyes got red and very teary, her nose was clogging up, her throat sounded like she was underwater, her shoulders were all tight and hunched up around her neck, and she could hardly function. I asked her if I could assist her. She nodded, because she couldn't even talk. I didn't even want to ask her to get up and go outside - she seemed unable to.
So as she tapped on her collarbone, I tapped down her spine, saying for her,
even though I have this congestion ... . even though I'm all stiff and afraid .... even though I'm scared because I can't breathe ....
I was saying all this because she couldn't, and she nodded that I had intuited it right.
GC: This happens with some frequency.
The client freezes due to an emotional or physical problem and the practitioner needs to do the tapping AND say the words. Trust your guesses about the words. They are often accurate.
Also, access to the various meridians occur near the outer edges of the spine.
Thus tapping up and down the spine can be quite effective.
ANGELA CONTINUES:
After about a minute's tapping, her shoulders relaxed a bit, she was able to speak and we went another round. Her eyes cleared up, and she sat up straighter.
She waved her hand, and we both stopped tapping.
I figured she wanted to stop completely, since she felt better.
I was amazed that only three short rounds did so much on such a scary situation.
We didn't even tap the face or anywhere else but the collarbone, with me on the spine.
She said, "Oh that was great! But I've learned how to live with this - it's been going on for 18 years."
I asked, "What happened 18 years ago?
She said, "I got married again."
We all laughed, but I thought,
"Hmm, there's juice in this" - so I said, as I tapped on my own collarbone - and as I did that, she tapped too:
"even though I got married again 18 years ago" -
and we all laughed again, but when she laughed it was a clogged up gurgly kind of laugh - and then I popped it - I said as I tapped:
"and I felt choked...."
When I said that, she repeated it and tapped on her collarbone as if she wasn't really paying attention. Then her eyes got really big, and she suddenly went "OH! MY GOD! My nose just cleared up and I can breathe! I can breathe!"
Her face got its color back, her eyes and nose were completely clear, and the gurgle was gone.
We didn't tap anymore, but I could see the wheels turning.
She asked me, "can I tap for my other stuff like that too?"
EFT and future pacing -- Removing fear thro imagination.
http://www.emofree.com/Articles2/future-events-andy.htm
By Andy Bryce
.. I have found that EFT can be used very effectively to alter the outcome of a future event, or at least release the emotional trauma associated with the anticipation of the future event.
In his wonderful book, The Biology of Belief, Dr. Bruce Lipton suggests that the mind does not know the difference between the actual event and the vividly imagined event. To me this implies that every time I remember an event or imagine a future event, I am living it emotionally and physically. This could mean that we have the biochemistry of fear or anger every time we remember or anticipate traumatic experiences, as if we were actually living them in the moment.
...
Future pacing is an NLP concept, which practitioners use to address an event that may happen or one that is going to happen in the future. It involves previewing the future, in order to check our reactions to an event, or to program in a positive outcome. I have been using future pacing for many years and it works even better when combined with EFT. ...
Future Pacing or future visioning, is one of the ways we can use the power of our minds to intentionally create the future we desire. When we are caught up in previewing negative futures instead of positive ones, Future Pacing can be effectively combined with EFT to help see new possibilities and gain greater levels of emotional freedom. ...
.. Mike, had a family trip coming up, a Thanksgiving trip across country to spend time with his family. He was particularly concerned about the potential for upset between certain family members and also how he might react to those events.
I had Mike imagine these future events in his mind.
We began with the trip to the airport, since getting there is half the fun, and he and his wife and daughter had to be at the airport by five in the morning. We tapped on all the negatives that he was expecting to happen and then we ran through the entire week away doing the same thing – imagining all the negative events that could possibly happen and tapping for the emotions linked to them until the intensity came down.
We did this until it flowed well for him when he thought about it, no matter what happened or who got upset (Remember, this was all just as he imagined it could go, in his mind. What we were doing was deliberately bringing up all the upsetting things that could happen, and tapping for them). We used the same technique for a family trip to Europe with very positive results as well. Mike tapped on;
Even though flying with the whole family is complicated and I have to manage everyone’s emotions…
Even though I am afraid that my wife and my mother will argue and I will have to be the referee and it feels like I can’t win in that situation …
Emotional Freedom is to me a very powerful concept that involves making choices free from conditioned responses or belief systems or past experience. EFT is the most effective adaptable tool I have ever found to create that freedom in my life and in those I live and work with. When the fear that prevents us being free is the result of a negative imagined future, tools like Future Pacing can be effectively combined with EFT to accelerate our progress towards freedom.
