Introduction.

Alternative 3 is an option of saving part of humanity by removing that part to another planet. This survival option is chosen with the awareness that the environment of the Earth is, and has been, under such negative influences from human habitation of the Earth that the Earth is and will become uninhabitable for healthy humans. Unconsciously, for humans, the "heavens" have always been a location from which gods and spirits came, to which "good" spirits went, and, more recently and as an option by denial, a refuge to go to.

POLITICALLY, the authoritarian decision-making individuals which have promoted the deterioration of the Earth's ecosphere and now choose to move on to another planet, accept that the survivors and the winners will be those who are motivated adequately to make the supporting decisions necessary to effecting such a transfer. With the level and state of the technology which humans have, it is rationally natural to assume that only a small human population will acquire the proposed benefit.
FANTASY, imagination without relevance to reality, always enables us to think that what we could do with technology is 100 times beyond reality. An emotionally detached and desperate realist mindset thereby is capable of justifying whatever measures are necessary in order to reach the goal: relocation.
HUMAN IGNORANCE and fantasy suggested that such an alternative was both obtainable and could be effected without the requirement of an extended time period - at the point when this alternative was first chosen, by a group of engineers, scientists, military officers, political power brokers and business magnates. Popular human history of that era encouraged the belief that human political systems can only be inefficient, in the long-term.

This PRACTICAL and realist-oriented "reality" presupposed that the factors defining a deterioration of the Earth climate would be impossible to either limit or reverse. The ensuing decades have largely confirmed this: much discussion, some promises, excuses, little action. Lack of humility to accept our weaknesses and limitations and work within them enables us to continue to worsen our reality.
Quick-fix alternative 1 - dumping Human industry-generated air pollution into space - was attempted with the only result being the dramtic human ignorance of space, nuclear radiation, and the ecosphere of the Earth.
Quick-fix alternative 2 - planning for a subterranean existence - did not appeal to most humans as a long-term and permanent lifestyle. Such was more suited to insect-like and reptile-like beings with their lack of dependence upon sunlight for the maintenance of health.

WHAT FOLLOWS is a chart of events and activities which encouraged the belief that a lifestyle for humans beyond the Earth was possible, necessary - and, unlikely. While politicians lobby for aerospace jobs for their voters, academics provide the justification for expensing billions of dollars.
HUGE EXPENDITURES make a covert secondary space program possible by way of encouraging capital to be skimmed from projects excluded from close scrutiny by virtue of secrecy. An increasing awareness about the deterioration of the ecosphere prompts cinematic fantasies to bolster commitment and confidence, and, for the purpose of self-denial and the continuance of addictive destructive responses.
