Uranium is a hard, dense, malleable, ductile, silver-white, radioactive metal.
Uranium metal has very high density. When finely divided, it can react with cold water.
In air it is coated by uranium oxide, tarnishing rapidly. It is attacked by steam and acids.
Uranium can form solids, solutions, and, intermetallic compounds with many of the metals.
Applications
Uranium gained importance with the development of practical uses of nuclear energy.
Depleted uranium is used as shielding to protect tanks, and also in bullets and missiles.
The first atomic bomb used in warfare was a uranium bomb.
This bomb contained enough of the uranium-235 isotope to start a runaway chain reaction which in a fraction of a second caused a large number of the uranium atoms to undergo fission, there by releasing a fireball of energy.
The main use of uranium in the civilian sector is to fuel commercial nuclear power plants.
This requires uranium to be enriched with the uranium-235 isotope and the chain reaction to be controlled so that the energy is released in a more manageable way.
The isotope uranium 238 is used to estimate the age of the earliest igneous rocks and for other types of radiometric dating.
Phosphate fertilizers are made from material typically high in uranium, so they usually contain high amounts of it.
Uranium in the environment
Although uranium is radioactive, it is not particularly rare.
It is widely spread throughout the environment and so it is impossible to avoid uranium.
Uranium can be found naturally in the environment in very small amounts in rocks, soil, air and water.
Humans add uranium metals and compounds, because they are released during mining and milling processes.
In air the uranium concentrations are very low.
Even at higher than usual concentrations in air, there is so little uranium present per cubic meter that less than one atom transfers every day.
In water most of the uranium is dissolved uranium that derives from rocks and soil that the water runs over.
Some of the uranium is suspended, so that the water gets a muddy texture.
Only a very small part of uranium in water settles from air.
The amounts of uranium in drinking water are generally very low.
Uranium is found in soils in varying concentrations that are usually very low.
Humans add uranium to the soil through industrial activities.
Erosion of tailing from mines and mills may cause larger amounts of uranium to be released into the environment.

People always experience exposure to a certain amount of uranium from food, air, soil and water, as it is naturally present in all these components. Food, such as root vegetables, and water will provide us with small amounts of natural uranium and we will breathe in minimal concentrations of uranium with air. The concentrations of uranium in seafood are usually so low that they can be safely ignored.
People that live near hazardous waste sites, people that live near mines, people that work in the phosphate industry, people that eat crops grown on contaminated soil or people that drink water from a uranium waste disposal point may experience a higher exposure than other people. Uranium glazes are banned, but some artists that still use them for glasswork will experience a higher-than-usual exposure.
Because uranium is a radioactive substance health effects have been researched.
Scientists have detected no harmful radiation effects of natural levels of uranium.
However, chemical effects may occur after the uptake of large amounts of uranium and these can cause health effects such as kidney disease.
When people are exposed to uranium radionuclides that are formed during radioactive decay for a long period of time, they may develop cancer. The chances of getting cancer are much higher when people are exposed to enriched uranium, because that is a more radioactive form of uranium. This form of uranium gives off damaging radiation, which can cause people to develop cancer within a few years. Enriched uranium may end up in the environment during accidents in nuclear power plants.
Whether uranium can cause reproductive effects in people is currently unknown.

Uranium is a radioactive material that is very reactive.
As a result it cannot be found in the environment in its elemental form.
Uranium compounds that have consisted during reactions of uranium with other elements and substances dissolve in water to their own extent. The water-solubility of a uranium compound determines its mobility in the environment, as well as its toxicity.
While uranium itself is not particularly dangerous, some of its decay products do pose a threat, especially radon, which can build up in confined spaces such as basements.
Uranium in air exists as dust that will fall into surface water, on plants or on soils through settling or rainfall.
It will than sink to the sediment in water or to the lower soil layers, where it will mix with uranium that is already present.
Water containing low amounts of uranium is usually safe to drink.
Because of its nature, uranium is not likely to accumulate in fish or vegetables and uranium that is absorbed will be eliminated quickly through urine and faeces.
The compounds in the soil will combine with other compounds, which can stay in the soil for years without moving towards the groundwater. Uranium concentrations are often higher in phosphate-rich soil, but this does not have to be a problem, because concentrations often do not exceed normal ranges for uncontaminated soil.
Plants absorb uranium through their roots and store it there.
Root vegetables such as radishes may contain higher than usual concentrations of uranium as a result.
When the vegetables are washed the uranium will be removed.

Some people are genetically predisposed to uranium toxicity, this is because certain genes belonging to liver detoxification pathways that normally deal with uranium detoxification have been deleted, in these cases a genetics test can confirm and a specialized nutritional program can help the individual detoxify uranium.
Urinary uranium levels have been used to monitor exposure via inhalation, in uranium workers.
If uranium reaches the bloodstream, whether by ingestion or inhalation, almost all of it is eliminated via urine.
Canadian drinking water guidelines set the upper limit for acceptability at 20 ug/L.
Individuals with a urine uranium level in the "red" or "purple" zone should have their drinking water tested.
If drinking water approaches or exceeds 20 ug/L., appropriate measures would include water filtration to remove uranium or switching to a different water supply.
The conservative half-life for bone uranium is estimated to be 180 to 360 days.
If the source of the exposure can be located and eliminated, it may be expected that uranium levels would subsequently subside to a minimum after 2.5 to 5 years without other intervention. Opinions vary as to whether uranium accumulated by chronic exposure can be eliminated by chelation. It is probably more important to support the bone marrow and kidneys while seeking to eliminate exposure.
Uranium toxicity is essentially chemical toxicity, according to ATSDR.
While enriched uranium may pose an increased cancer risk through radioactivity, this is not true for naturally occurring uranium.
Tissue damage may occur through oxidative stress mechanisms, as seems to be the case for the metallotoxicity seen with thorium. The kidney is most sensitive to uranium, but uranium is considered much less nephrotoxic than cadmium, lead, and mercury, and renal damage appears to be reversible over time.
Anemia in the face of elevated urine uranium might lead one to think about anemia of renal disease.
Renal anemia induced by chronic ingestion of depleted uranium in rats. Although uranium deposits quite readily in bone, there is little evidence of toxic effects on bone. Overall, uranium is considered to have a low order of chemical or metallotoxicity.
It’s important to understand that vitamin & mineral supplementation can NOT resolve uranium toxicity and may cover up symptoms leading to bigger problems. Detoxification of uranium is essential to properly restoring vitamin and mineral imbalances.

The difference in radioactivity between natural and depleted uranium is that given equal quantities, depleted uranium has about half the radioactivity of the natural mixture of uranium isotopes. However, because of the concentration of the uranium in the depleted uranium waste, depleted uranium is much more radioactive than uranium in its natural state. ...
Experience with Gulf War veterans indicates that a 24 hour urine collection analysis shows the most promise of detecting depleted uranium contamination seven or eight years after exposure. However, since this test only measures the amount of depleted uranium which has been circulating in the blood or kidneys within one or two weeks prior to the testing time, rather than testing the true body burden, ...
When chelation processes have been initiated the rate of excretion of uranium in urine will be increased and there is a risk of damage to kidney tubules. Therefore careful urine analysis for protein, glucose and non-protein nitrogen in important. Some researchers have also reported specifically finding B-2-microglobulinuria and aminoaciduria in urine due to uranium damage. ...
In Volume 2 of the Encyclopaedia of Occupational Health, under uranium alloys and compounds, page 2238, it reads:
"Uranium poisoning is characterized by generalized health impairment.
The element and its compounds produce changes in the kidneys, liver, lungs and cardiovascular, nervous and haemopoietic systems, and cause disorders of protein and carbohydrate metabolism ....
Chronic poisoning results from prolonged exposure to low concentrations of insoluble compounds and presents a clinical picture different from that of acute poisoning.
The outstanding signs and symptoms are
- pulmonary fibrosis,
- pneumoconiosis, and
- blood changes with
- a fall in red blood count;
- haemoglobin,
- erythrocyte and reticulocyte levels in the peripheral blood are reduced.
Leucopenia may be observed with leucocyte disorders (cytolysis, pyknosis, and hypersegmentosis).
There may be damage to the nervous system.
Morphological changes in the lungs, liver, spleen, intestines and other organs and tissues may be found, and it is reported that uranium exposure inhibits reproductive activity and affects uterine and extra-uterine development in experimental animals. Insoluble compounds tend to be retained in tissues and organs for long periods."
The more soluble compounds of uranium, namely, uranium hexafluoride, uranyl fluoride, uranium tetrachloride, uranyl nitrate hexahydrate, are likely to be absorbed into the blood from the alveolar pockets in the lungs within days of exposure. Although inhalation products also are transported through coughing and mucocilliary action to the gastro-intestinal tract only about 2 percent of this fraction is actually absorbed into the body fluids through the intestinal wall. Therefore all of the research papers on acute effects of uranium refer to these soluble uranium compounds via inhalation. The main acute effect of inhalation of soluble uranium compounds is damage to the renal system, and the main long term storage place of these compounds in the body is bone.

The increased use of uranium compounds in industry, and more recently in warfare in the form of depleted uranium, causes concern and a necessary look at internal contamination with uranium and its toxicological consequences, both as a heavy metal and as a radiological hazard. Everyone in North America may be exposed to uranium. ...
The uranous ion produces a toxic effect on the living cells by inhibiting the processes of metabolism of carbohydrates by the inhibition of enzyme systems. (Could this be a factor of why many people are gaining so much weight in the last couple of years)? This is done with the enzyme system specifically associated with hexakinase at the sites of ATP surface-building through magnesium-hexokinase mechanism. Early studies on the biological effects of uranium indicated that uranium salts given by mouth presented a hazard as a mild poison causing death.
There have been 2,000 nuclear detonations on our planet since Hiroshima; over five hundred of them conducted above ground casting uranium and other radioactive substances into our atmosphere. Background radiation levels have increased and many of the harmful medical effects are still waiting to manifest. Radiation does its dirty work quite slowly when it comes to low level exposures, but its effect is cumulative (as is most metals and toxic chemicals). New exposures amplify the biological vulnerabilities already created by other exposure.
During one year of operation, a nuclear reactor produces as much long-lived radioactive poison as that released by 1,000 Hiroshima bombs. – Green Peace
A new study by Joseph Mangano was announced in Trenton, NJ on March 28, 2006. The study, published in the International Journal of Health Services, finds that childhood cancer is linked with normal reactor operations. Cancer in children living near the Oyster Creek nuclear reactor rose after increased levels of radiation entered their bodies. Studies show the comparing trends at other nuclear sites. The breast cancer in women also rise in geographical areas near nuclear reactors. The nation's nuclear reactors are leaking and many are losing their lives from it. ...
SAT scores plunged in the early days of above ground nuclear testing showing neurological effects and even autism can be linked, in part, to nuclear generated power. Studies and research working with autism have mostly plotted out the dramatic rise in the 1990's to sharp increases in the use of mercury containing thimerosal in vaccines. But at the same time radiation levels were increasing. Such plagues as autism and the dramatic rise in learning disabilities are fueled by a multitude of converging causes. The principle ones being heavy metals like aluminum, lead and mercury, combining with fluoride and aspartame and a myriad of other toxic chemicals ---all interacting with uranium, and ionizing radiation in the bodies and cells of our young children. Human cells exposed to uranium bond with it and these other heavy metals and the resultant biochemical reaction can cause genetic mutations, which in turn can curtail cell grown and potentially trigger cancer.
The primary cause of death from acute radiation injury is usually infection by normal pathogens during the phase of manifest illness. Even minimally symptomatic doses of radiation depress the immune response and dramatically increase the infectivity.
Both mercury and uranium sit in the environment like invisible clouds that have spread out everywhere.
With mercury, we find the exposure everywhere in our environment and vaccines, dental fillings, fish, all plastics and hundreds other of sources. With uranium, we have United States and Britain blowing the stuff up in distant battlefields only to have the radioactive poisons drift around the world.
It needs to be clear that everything done with radioactive substances is dangerous to mankind.
The newest risk is coming from depleted uranium (DU) weapons and the huge tonnage of material already spilled across four battlefields. Though greatly concentrated in local war zones, recent evidence demonstrates that it is being carried in the high winds to distant lands. With the different radioactive substances having half-lives measured in thousands, millions and even billions of years, and with modern medicine in the first world depending increasingly on diagnostic machines with their own high levels of radiation, humanity is increasingly threatened by rising radiation levels as it is with rising levels of mercury and other toxic chemicals.
If depleted uranium enters the body it has the potentiality of causing serious medical consequences. The associated risk is both chemical and radiological. US Army Report 1995 Once a radionuclide is absorbed, it is distributed throughout the body. The rate of distribution to each organ is related to organ metabolism, the ease of chemical transport, and the affinity of the radionuclide for chemicals within the organ. The liver, kidney, adipose tissue, and bone have higher capacities for binding radionuclides due to their high protein and lipid makeup. The kidneys though are considered the primary target organ for uranium chemical toxicity. Once the uranium is solubilized in the blood, the kidney will excrete some of it in urine. Uranium not excreted distributes to bone and soft tissue, including the kidney, liver, lung, fat, muscle, and then, to some extent, to all other organs. Although uranium in the body distributes to all organs with the main reservoir being the skeleton, the target organ is the kidney, where functional change is observed.
Iraqis and Kuwaitis aren't the only ones showing signs of uranium contamination and sickness.
Gulf War veterans, plagued by a variety of illnesses have been found to have traces of uranium in their blood, feces, urine and semen!
Multiple cancer cases are being reported in all nuclear battlefields where DU armaments were used (Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq). Nuclear war has been reclassified as conventional with the use of depleted uranium weapons. Every war now fought by the United States has some form of radiation whether nuclear radiation or DU (depleted uranium) from armaments. No war is safe anywhere on the planet.

Depleted uranium: The Newest Heavy Metal Threat
August 08, 2009 by Robert Zieve, M.D.

Disclaimer: The entire contents of this website are based upon the opinions of Dr. Mercola, unless otherwise noted.
This article is about a toxin that few people know about, a toxin that affects most of us in very quiet and insidious ways. It is called
depleted uranium. Learning about and coming to terms with this toxin requires us to learn about it with our heads, keep our hearts open to
the human suffering involved, and our wills active to take the needed actions guided by conscience.
...
Uranium and Depleted uranium
There is uranium and there is depleted uranium.
Understanding the distinction between this two is critical.
Uranium is a weakly radioactive element.
It is present naturally in our environment. There is research that exposure to low levels of what is called ionizing radiation from earth emanating uranium helps us. It is physiological and helps us in repairing our DNA. It can stimulate immune function, help us to have better sleep, and is anti fungal. This area of understanding is called radiation hormesis. In distinction, the primary use that humans make of uranium is in making nuclear bombs and in nuclear reactors.
Uranium itself can have chemical and radioactive effects in the human body. It is a nonessential element, and is naturally present in the
land especially in areas that are high in granite rocks. If we take in enough natural uranium, far beyond the range of low level radiation hormesis, it can damage kidneys and bones.
It can substitute for calcium in the bones and thus contribute to developing osteoporosis.
It can combine with and bind citrates and carbonates in your body.
It can deposit in your liver, spleen, and kidneys.
With enough exposure it has been implicated in the development of diabetes, hyperinsulinemia, and obesity. ...
Then there is depleted uranium.
What is the difference between the two?
Depleted uranium is the waste product of uranium enrichment in nuclear reactors. It is the residue left in massive quantities when
bomb-grade uranium is refined or enriched to make reactor fuel and nuclear weapons. Natural uranium has only 0.7 percent of fissionable uranium that can be used to make nuclear fuel and nuclear bombs. Modern reactors require 3% percent of fissionable U235. So the enrichment process increases the amount of this fissionable U235 from 0.7 percent to 3 percent, and produces depleted uranium as its byproduct.
Why is this significant?
After all, depleted uranium has only 1/3 of the radioactive isotopes of naturally occurring uranium.
And it is much less absorbed through the skin. However, it is a biological time bomb when it is inhaled. This is the big problem we have, as you will see. Tiny uranium oxide particles are inhaled, and then lodge in your lungs, brain, and bone marrow especially, and do damage for years.
Radioactivity: Two Types
... There are two types of radiation: non-ionizing and ionizing.
The distinction refers to whether the particular form of radiation carries enough energy to ionize an atom or molecule -- that is, to
remove an electron. Non-ionizing radiation, regardless of the media and business claims, can still do damage, as we have seen in the volume of research in microwave radiation from cell phones, cordless phones, microwave ovens, motion detectors, radar, Wi-Fi, power lines, and cell phone towers. The industries that make products that use these forms of radiation would have us believe they are harmless. There is ample research and observations now that non-ionizing radiation can be very harmful, even in short periods of exposure. The reader may refer online to such articles as The Radiation Poisoning of America. ...
Ionizing radiation consists of subatomic particles, like depleted uranium, that have enough energy to detach electrons from atoms or molecules, thus ionizing them. Whether ionization occurs does not depend upon the number of particles in exposure, but rather on the energy of the impinging particles or waves. Examples of ionizing particles are alpha particles, beta particles, and neutrons.
We are increasingly exposed to this ionizing radiation.
It comes from radioactive materials, X-ray tubes, particle accelerators, and other applications common to modern allopathic medicine.
Acute exposure can cause significant burns and radiation sickness if the doses are high enough, and cancers and genetic damage at lower doses. In its most extreme, this is the area of killing thousands of people with a nuclear bomb.
Whereas we can limit the sources of ionizing radiation from medical sources if we limit our exposure to such testing on an individual basis,
our abilities to limit such exposure becomes more difficult because of the world in which we live. If there is leaking from a local nuclear facility, we are exposed. If there is nuclear fallout somewhere else in the world, we are exposed. Just as in the area of non-ionizing radiation, ionizing radiation is a social problem and not just a medical issue.
...
Why Depleted Uranium?
Why and how would a waste product of nuclear fission in a nuclear reactor become such a worldwide and insidious toxin, one that very few
people are even aware of? The answer lies in the ways that science and the military have discovered how depleted uranium can be used.
In the civilian sector, depleted uranium is used in a number of ways. It is in counterweights used in aircraft. Radiation shields used
medically have depleted uranium. As do containers for the transport of radioactive materials.
The military sector has also found applications for this byproduct known as depleted uranium.
It is used in defensive armor plates. And, it is used to make the most devastating weapons the military uses -- the kinetic energy penetrators in hardened artillery shells that will penetrate tanks and other heavily armored vehicles and buildings. When used, it is like a hot knife that slices through armored tanks. On impact, depleted uranium ignites. It generates fires and explosions, and death to those in near proximity. In addition, it also generates airborne oxides. This is where the great and long-term damage occurs to millions; 40% of the depleted uranium is left on the battlefield after the battle.
The particles of depleted uranium oxide (DUO) cannot be seen.
They are nano particles. Some are smaller than the wavelength of light. To provide perspective, they are 1/10,000 the diameter of a red blood cell. These microsized particles have never existed in the natural environment until now.
The Danger of Depleted Uranium
Depleted Uranium kills many people quietly.
It is an inhalation time bomb. There is nothing depleted about depleted uranium.
Inhaled DU nano particles easily cross the lung/blood barrier in inhalation, and the blood/brain barrier through the nose and into the brain. The serious and real danger with depleted uranium is in the inhalation of these microparticles of alpha radioactivity. Such radioactivity is natural at low levels in the environment. It is a highly ionizing form of radiation. And, it is not dangerous unless inhaled. Once inhaled, which DUO universally is, it is the most destructive form of ionizing radiation by far. One gram of DU releases 13,000 alpha particles (a helium nucleus) per second. One alpha particle can cause cancer under the right conditions. DU inhaled nano particles, less than 10 microns big, stay lodged in tissue for decades, emitting radiation that does great and cumulative damage.
Nobel Prize winner Dr. Herman Muller has described the tiny genetic mutations that are passed on to offspring through family lines after exposure. This has great relevance not only to our soldiers returning from war since 1990, but also to their offspring. Depleted Uranium in your body is like miniature cannons going off for decades inside your body. They fire high-energy particles at 12,000 shots per second. They wreck and damage DNA chains. They induce chemical changes inside cells. And if the particles survive, they can replicate and do even more damage.
To put perspective on DNA damage:
It requires 6-10 eV's, or electron volts, to break the DNA or other large molecules in the body.
One DU particle inside the body is an emitter of alpha particles. Each alpha particle carries the force of 4.2 million electron volts.
Worldwide and USA
DU is a worldwide toxin.
Because it is aerosolized, it can travel great distances from where it is used to penetrate armor in a war. It began to be used in war in the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, then in the Gulf War in 1990-91, and continues to be used today. Gulf War veterans were found to have DU in their clothing, bodies, and semen; 67 percent of them have offspring with birth defects. Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and chronic neurological conditions are much more common among them than in the general public. Lauren Moret,
eminent scientist, has stated that DU is the main cause of Gulf War Syndrome.
Whereas only 400 soldiers were killed in the war, 11,000 of the 580,000 soldiers are now deceased, and over 325,000 are on permanent
disability as of 2000. In the areas of the world where it has been used most, mainly the Middle East and in the areas in and around Serbia, the soil and air is so contaminated with depleted uranium that millions of Iraqis and others, in the area, as well as their offspring, will be developing cancers for decades to come, cancers they otherwise would not have developed. Even in Great Britain it is reported that the highest levels of depleted uranium that were ever measured in the atmosphere were transported on currents of air from the Middle East and Central Asia during and immediately after the Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan and the "Shock and Awe" bombing of Iraq in 2003.
In the USA, serious side effects have been observed in a number of areas. These include areas such as Hanford, Washington; Oak Ridge,
Tennessee; Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Portsmouth, Ohio, among others. In Colonie, New York near Albany, 23 years after a US arms plant was shut, it has been discovered that 20 percent of the people in the area are contaminated who have lived there for over 10 years.
DU and Human Illness
The adverse effects on human health include the following:
- Lung cancer
- Reactive airway disease
- Neurological abnormalities
- Vision degradation
- Lymphoma and other cancers
- Birth defects in offspring
Children exposed are much more susceptible, having much higher absorption rates as the blood is used to build and nourish bones and
soft tissue. The number and type of birth defects in Iraqi children are common and difficult to look at. Dr. James Howensteine, M.D., has written in April 2006 that we have a lung cancer epidemic from depleted uranium in the US, and that it has just begun. It was reported in 2006 on CNN News American Morning that
there are usually 175,000 new cases of lung cancer per year in the US, yet in January and February of 2006 alone there were 172,000 new cases.
In perspective, you can develop lung cancer if you smoke for 30 years, or if you have exposure to depleted uranium in 30 days.
The scientist Leuren Moret, as a result of his research, has stated that the use of depleted uranium in weapons has caused the global diabetes mellitus epidemic. Both mercury and uranium bind on specific biochemical sites of insulin receptors in the human body. Radiation exposure, whether it be acute in a nuclear bomb or chronic in depleted uranium exposure, generates cascades of free radicals that decimate your body's supply of glutathione and allows free radicals to run rampant through our tissues and organs and do considerable damage.
Unfortunately, the International Atomic Energy Commission continues to state that "...there is no evidence that either natural uranium or depleted uranium is carcinogenic." Yet two-thirds of all breast cancer deaths in the United States occur within 100 miles of a nuclear power plant.
Diagnosis of Depleted Uranium Toxicity
There is no real accurate method of diagnosis of DU poisoning.
Hair mineral analysis of uranium does not distinguish between isotopes. And the particles are likely so small as to not be detectable by any
conventional means of diagnosis. We cannot wait for an accurate diagnostic test before taking action.
Treatment, Decontamination and Eliminating DU
There are many approaches here. This article will discuss a few.
The general principles and approaches that apply include:
- Ample amounts of necessary minerals such as magnesium, iodine, selenium, zinc, and others
- Saunas, both infrared and far-infrared
- Raising core energy levels with botanical formulas
- Supporting and improving individual capacities to mobilize and eliminate toxins
- Therapeutic Clays to remove positively charged particles
... botanicals that help in this process, including
Siberian ginseng, Reishi, Panax Ginseng, Aloe Vera, Dandelion root, Red Clover, and many others.
Herbal adaptogenic formulas normalize, are nontoxic, and are nonspecifically supportive.
Other supplements that may be of help include:
- Vitamin D in adequate amounts to protect bone strength
- Thiol supplements such as cysteine and ALA to help improve detoxification pathways
- L-glutamine to repair intestinal damage.
Important are ample quantities of:
- Chlorella, which is not only a heavy metal chelator but is also radioprotective
- Spirulina, which was used at a dose of 5 grams per day for 45 days after Chernobyl
- Cilantro, which has research demonstrating its effectiveness in protecting bones from lead and uranium contamination
- Other forms of chelation such as EDTA, DMPS, DMSA and others
... there is no clear treatment for poisoning with depleted uranium.
Our focus must be on:
- Eliminating exposure
- Correcting damage and mutation of DNA with effective doses of botanicals

It is important to also mention that, in spite of the cumulative toxicity to which we are exposed, there is a growing body of insight and
experience demonstrating that our illnesses are the manifestation of unresolved inner conflicts.
The German New Medicine work of Hamer, Sabbah, and Renaud (totalbiology.ca), as well as the work of Bert Hellinger, have shown this to be true in thousands of patients with illnesses.
The Value of "Normal"
Our society places a high value on what we come to perceive as normal. This includes vaccinations, drinking milk, having silver
fillings and root canals, watching television, using microwaves and cell phones. It is now considered normal to save a few lives with vaccinations at the price of chronic health conditions for millions. We make some teeth stronger with mercury/silver fillings but at the price of millions with chronic neurological and immune system impairment. We use depleted uranium in battle to make sure we lose fewer soldiers to death, at the price of millions of soldiers and civilians and their offspring being poisoned for generations.
Summary
Uranium from depleted uranium is now a worldwide toxin on par with mercury in its devastating effects.
It is like a hidden microchip that will do internal damage to millions of human bodies, and of course animals and other life on the planet, for decades. Radioactive DU may claim more lives than either Hiroshima or Nagasaki. The environment in Iraq, Serbia, and nearby areas of the
Middle East and Central Asia are completely radioactive with DU particles.
What the world requires now is to ban depleted uranium munitions and the use of DU.
In addition, if we are a humanity of conscience, then this requires us to evaluate and treat all exposed, and to find and remove all DU
penetrator fragments and contaminated equipment. Or, we face a progressive poisoning of all life on earth. It is anything but clear at this time if there is the honesty to face these realities and the will to do what is right. We have the means and the understanding of how to do all of this, and the treatment modalities that can be effective. What is lacking is the will to take the necessary actions outlined here.
Depleted Uranium is an epidemic of deception of which very few people are aware.
It kills millions quietly. We are at a critical stage of development as a species and as a civilization. This can be seen clearly in our worldwide economic crisis, environmental changes, medical system meltdown, as well as in the cumulative exposures that include DU, mercury, fluoride, vaccinations, thousands of chemicals, and serious chronic infections like Lyme disease.
The time for denial and piecemeal approaches are over.
Integrative Medicine provides the template for the comprehensive approaches that are and will increasingly be necessary to help people heal from the effects of depleted uranium poisoning and the many other cumulative assaults on the human body and all life. It is in developing a greater clarity in our thinking, and by entering into the sorrow and compassion of the world in our feelings, that we develop the will to do the work that needs to be done.
This we will need to counter the forces of destruction and the fear of annihilation that have grown stronger in the last century, especially
since the unleashing of atomic and subatomic forces, and which now increasingly permeate our world militarily, socially, and economically.
We end this article with words from Eckhart Tolle in his book, A New Earth:
"Fear, greed, and the desire for power are the psychological motivating forces not only behind warfare ... but also the cause of
incessant conflict in personal relationships.
If the history of humanity were the clinical case history of a single human being, the diagnosis would have to be: chronic paranoid
delusions, a pathological propensity to commit murder and acts of extreme violence and cruelty against his perceived enemies? ...
Criminally insane, with a few brief lucid intervals."

... In a survey of 130 sites (approximately 3700 samples) in Ontario, Canada, conducted between 1990 and 1995, the mean of the average uranium concentrations (range 0.05–4.21 µg/litre; detection limit 0.05 µg/litre) in treated drinking-water was 0.40 µg/litre (OMEE, 1996). ... uranium concentrations of up to 700 µg/litre have been found in private supplies in Canada. ...
2.3 Food
Uranium has been detected in a variety of foodstuffs.
The highest concentrations are found in shellfish, and lower levels have been measured in fresh vegetables, cereals and fish. The average per capita intake of uranium in food has been reported to be 1.3 µg/day (Fisenne et al., 1987) and 2–3 µg/day (Singh et al., 1990) in the USA and 1.5
µg/day in Japan (Nozaki et al., 1970).
... Absorption of uranium from the gastrointestinal tract depends upon the solubility of the uranium compound (Berlin & Rudell, 1986), previous food consumption (Sullivan et al., 1986; La Touche et al., 1987) and the concomitant administration of oxidizing agents, such as the iron(III) ion and quinhydrone (Sullivan et al., 1986). The average human gastrointestinal absorption of uranium is 1–2% (Wrenn et al., 1985). ...
Following ingestion, uranium rapidly appears in the bloodstream (La Touche et al., 1987), where it is associated primarily with the red cells (Fisenne & Perry, 1985); a non-diffusible uranyl–albumin complex also forms in equilibrium with a diffusible ionic uranyl hydrogen carbonate complex (UO2 HCO3+) in the plasma (Moss, 1985). Because of their high affinity for phosphate, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, uranyl compounds readily combine with proteins and nucleotides to form stable complexes (Moss, 1985).
Clearance from the bloodstream is also rapid, and the uranium subsequently accumulates in the kidneys and the skeleton, whereas little is found in the liver (La Touche et al., 1987). The skeleton is the major site of uranium accumulation (Wrenn et al., 1985); the uranyl ion replaces calcium in the hydroxyapatite complex of bone crystals (Moss, 1985). Based on the results of studies in experimental animals, it appears that the amount of soluble uranium accumulated internally is proportional to the intake from ingestion or inhalation. It has been estimated that the total body burden of uranium in humans is 40 µg, with approximately 40% of this being present in the muscles, 20% in the skeleton and 10%, 4%, 1% and 0.3% in the blood, lungs, liver and kidneys, respectively (Igarashi et al., 1987).
Once equilibrium is attained in the skeleton, uranium is excreted in the urine and faeces.
Urinary excretion in humans has been found to account for approximately 1% of total excretion, averaging 4.4 µg/day (Singh et al., 1990), the rate depending in part on the pH of tubular urine (Berlin & Rudell, 1986). Under alkaline conditions, most of the uranyl hydrogen carbonate complex is stable and is excreted in the urine. If the pH is low, the complex dissociates to a variable degree, and the uranyl ion may then bind to cellular proteins in the tubular wall, which may then impair tubular function.
The most common renal injury caused by uranium in experimental animals is damage to the proximal convoluted tubules, predominantly in the distal two-thirds (Berlin & Rudell, 1986; Anthony et al., 1994; Domingo, 1995); the rate of effects varies with dosage level (Leggett, 1989). It has recently been shown that uranyl ion inhibits both Na+ transport-dependent and Na+ transport-independent ATP utilization as well as mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in the renal proximal tubule (Leggett, 1989; Domingo, 1995). At doses not high enough to destroy a critical mass of kidney cells, the effect appears to be reversible, as some of the cells are replaced; however, the new epithelial lining differs morphologically, and possibly functionally, from normal epithelium (Wrenn et al., 1985; Berlin & Rudell, 1986). Histopathologically, the regenerated cells are simple flattened cells with no microvilli on luminal surfaces and with reduced numbers of mitochondria (Leggett, 1989).
There is some evidence that tolerance may develop following repeated exposure to uranium (Yuile, 1973; Durbin & Wrenn, 1976; Campbell, 1985). This tolerance does not, however, prevent chronic damage to the kidney, as the regenerated cells are quite different; although histopathologically it may appear that the repair process is well advanced, the urinary biochemical changes return to normal only slowly (Leggett, 1989). Alterations causing thickening of the glomerular basement membrane of the kidney, which results from the storage of uranium in the kidney, can be prolonged and severe enough to cause permanent damage (McDonald-Taylor et al., 1992). Persistent ultrastructural changes in the proximal tubules of rabbits have also been reported to be associated with the kidney’s ability to store uranium (McDonald-Taylor et al., 1997). Cell damage in the proximal tubules was significantly more severe in animals allowed up to a 91-day recovery period than in animals in the no-recovery group.
... the most important changes in the female were the capsular sclerosis of glomeruli and reticulin sclerosis of the interstitial membranes; these changes occurred in all dose groups and are considered to be “non-reparable lesions.” Significant treatment-related liver changes were also reported in hepatic nuclei and cytoplasm in both sexes at the lowest exposure level. ... Histopathological changes were observed in the kidney tubule, liver, thyroid and aorta. ... Dose-related and treatment-related nuclear changes in the kidney tubule included anisokaryosis and vesiculation, which were significantly different from effects observed in controls at all doses. Other treatment-related changes in the kidney included cytoplasmic vacuolation, tubular atrophy and nuclear pyknosis. In general, histopathological changes in the kidney in females were generally less marked than in males. ... Changes in the aorta were not dose-dependent. ...
5. EFFECTS ON HUMANS
Nephritis is the primary chemically induced effect of uranium in humans (Hursh & Spoor, 1973). ...
It was reported that granular activated carbon (GAC) treatment could reduce the uranium concentration from 26–101 µg/litre to 1 µg/litre, but the capacity was limited; after breakthrough, the treated water concentrations rose to levels above the influent (i.e., desorption occurred). Four different reverse osmosis membranes achieved >99% removal from a groundwater containing uranium at 300 µg/litre (Sorg, 1988).
The removal of uranium by a full-scale water treatment plant was monitored (Gäfvert et al., 2002).
The plant treated lake water by aluminium and iron coagulation (in two streams) and rapid gravity filtration. Aluminium coagulation (aluminium at 6 mg/litre, pH 6) reduced the raw water uranium concentration of 0.12 µg/litre by 87%; after
filtration, the total removal was 92%. With iron coagulation (iron at 15 mg/litre, pH 5.2), the removal (without filtration) was 77%.
In a survey of 20 treatment plants, substantial removal of uranium was found to occur at only 2 of them.
This was considered to be related to the coagulant doses and pH values used, and it was concluded that uranium removal can be achieved by adjusting the coagulant dose or pH, or both (White & Bondietti, 1983). ...
Combined removal of uranium and radium can be achieved using a mixed bed containing 10% strong base anion resin (for removal of uranium) and strong acid cation resin (for removal of radium) (Clifford & Zhang, 1994).
A domestic-scale reverse osmosis unit removed greater than 99.9% of uranium from initial concentrations of 69 and 183 µg/litre (Fox & Sorg, 1987). Five nanofiltration membranes were tested for the removal of uranium (1 mg/litre) from synthetic solutions. In test waters containing bicarbonate and around neutral pH, all the membranes gave removals of 95% or more (Raff & Wilken, 1999).
Other techniques that can be used for removal of uranium include adsorption onto modified GAC (Coleman et al., 2003), bone charcoal and apatite (Bostick et al., 2000) and chitosan (Gerente et al., 1999). Zero valent iron can also be used for uranium
removal (Abdelouas et al., 1999; Farrell et al., 1999; Morrison et al., 2003).
Several methods are available for the removal of uranium from drinking-water, although some of these methods have been tested at laboratory or pilot scale only. Coagulation using ferric sulfate or aluminium sulfate at optimal pH and coagulant dosages can achieve 80–95% removal of uranium, whereas at least 99% removal can be achieved using lime softening, anion exchange resin or reverse osmosis processes. ...

Often people attempt to detoxify uranium without knowing if they have toxicity and without knowing the best ways to achieve results. Many heavy metal detoxification supplements on the market do not work and often contain toxic heavy metals themselves.
Sad but true: There are thousands of scientific references and medical studies out there on the fact that radiation and radioactivity can harm you yet, despite millions of dollars spent by the government to study radiation, virtually nothing is available about a detoxification diet or nutritional supplements you might use to minimize the effects radioactive contamination.
Here’s some of the information we do know from the only book in the world on the topic.
Keep this information in the back of your mind as it may one day help save you or someone you know.
Iodine
Most people are aware of taking potassium iodide (KI) or potassium iodate (KIO3) tablets will help block your thyroid gland from absorbing radioactive iodine should there ever be a dirty bomb explosion or nuclear power plant mishap such as the Three Mile Island incident. In 1999, another such accident happened in Tokaimura, Japan where several individuals died from radiation exposure in a fuel processing facility.
What people don’t recognize is that potassium iodide or iodate tablets only protect the thyroid gland and do not provide protection from any other radiation exposure, so taking them should not give you a false sense of security. It’s important to detox your body after radioactive exposure!
One question is, what do you do if KI or KIO3 tablets aren’t available during an emergency?
Interestingly enough, according to research by Ken Miller, health physicist at the Hershey Medical Center, he found that an adult could get a blocking dose of stable iodine by painting 8 ml of a 2 % tincture of iodine on the abdomen or forearm (places on the body where absorption is rapid) approximately 2 hours prior to I-131 contamination. I-131 is a radioactive form of iodine present in the fallout from above-ground atomic bomb blasts. Potassium iodine tablets are best in cases where advance notice of radiation exposure are possible, but if they are not available iodine tincture is the next best thing.
After exposure
External:
An entirely different problem arises after you’ve been exposed to radioactive contamination because now you have to get rid of any radioactive particles you may have ingested through the air you breathed, water you drank, or food you ate. Some people suggest Epsom salts, Clorox or clay baths to remove any residues on your skin and to leach out any heavy metals you may have absorbed.
Internal:
The big worry is internal contamination.
To gain some insights into what to do, we have to turn to the story of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.
Diet:
At the time of the atomic bombing, Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D., was Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis’ Hospital in Nagasaki and he fed his staff and patients a strict diet of brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt. He also prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets since they suppress the immune system.
By imposing this diet on his staff and patients, no one succumbed to radiation poisoning whereas the occupants of hospitals located much further away from the blast incident suffered severe radiation fatalities.
Much of this positive result has to do with the fact that the sea vegetables contain substances that bind radioactive particles and escort them out of the body. This is why seaweed sales usually skyrocket after radiation disasters and why various seaweeds and algae are typically used to treat radiation victims.
Algeas:
In Chernobyl, for instance, spirulina was used to help save many children from radiation poisoning.
By taking 5 grams of spirulina a day for 45 days, the Institute of Radiation Medicine in Minsk even proved that children on this protocol experienced enhanced immune systems, increased T-cell counts and reduced radioactivity. Israeli scientists have since treated Chernobyl children with doses of natural beta carotene from Dunaliella algae and proved that it helped normalize their blood chemistry. Chlorella algae, a known immune system builder and heavy metal detoxifier, has also shown radioprotective effects. Because they bind heavy metals, algae should therefore be consumed after exposure to any type of radioactive contamination.
Sodium alginate:
In 1968 a group of Canadian researchers at McGill University of Montreal, headed by Dr. Stanley Skoryna, actually set out to devise a method to counteract the effects of nuclear fallout. The key finding from their studies was that sea vegetables contained a polysaccharide substance, called sodium alginate, which selectively bound radioactive strontium and eliminated it from the body.
Sodium alginate is found in many seaweeds, especially kelp, and since that time the Russians have been seriously researching the use of their own kelps from Vladivostok, from which they have isolated the polysaccharide U-Fucoidan, which is another radioactive detoxifier.
Miso soup:
Because miso soup was so effective in helping prevent radiation sickness, the Japanese have also done research identifying the presence of an active ingredient called zybicolin, discovered in 1972, which acts as a binding agent to also detoxify and eliminate radioactive elements (such as strontium) and other pollutants from the body.
Black and green teas:
The kelps and algaes aren’t the only natural foods with radio-detoxifying effects.
In terms of fluids to drink, black and green tea have shown radioprotective effects" whether consumed either before or after exposure to radiation. This anti-radiation effect was observed in several Japanese studies, and studies from China also suggest that the ingredients in tea are radioactive antagonists.
In short: After any sort of radioactive exposure you want to be eating seaweeds and algaes along with almost any type of commercial heavy metal chelating formula to bind radioactive particles and help escort them out of the body. Whether you’re worried about depleted uranium, plutonium or other isotopes, this is the wise thing to do which can possibly help, and certainly won’t hurt.
Supplements:
Many nutritional supplements have been developed for the purpose of detoxifying heavy metals, most of which contain the algaes and plant fibers and other binding substances.
The anti-radiation diet
An anti-radiation diet should focus on the following foods:
- Miso soup
- Spirulina, chlorella and the algaes (kelp, etc.)
- brassica vegetables and high beta carotene vegetables
- Beans and lentils
- Potassium, calcium and mineral rich foods
- High nucleotide content foods to assist in cellular repair including
----- spirulina, chlorella, algae, yeast, sardines, liver, anchovies and mackerel
- Cod liver oil and olive oil
- Avoid sugars and sweets and wheat
- A good multivitamin/multimineral supplement
Mineral supplementation:
Yet another benefit of the sea vegetables rarely discussed is their high mineral content, which is a bonus in the case of radioactive exposure.
Consuming natural iodine, such as in the seaweeds, helps prevent the uptake of iodine-131 while iron inhibits the absorption of plutonium-238 and plutonium-239. Vitamin B-12 inhibits cobalt-60 uptake (used in nuclear medicine). Zinc inhibits zinc-65 uptake and sulfur is preventative for sulfur-35 (a product of nuclear reactors) incorporation by the body.
Since nuclear workers are potentially exposed to radioactive sulfur, this means that workers in the atomic power industry need a higher content of sulfur in their diet. MSM supplements provide a source of dietary sulfur, but Thiol supplements such as cysteine, lipoic acid and glutathione serve double-duty in this area because they help detoxify the body and attack all sorts of other health problems as well.
Ginseng:
The immune system is usually hit hard after radiation exposure, and a number of steps can be taken to help prevent opportunistic infections after a radioactive incident. Though the full dimensions of the protective mechanism is still unknown, Siberian ginseng is one form of ginseng that exerts a definite radioprotective effect and has been demonstrated to lessen the side effects of radiation. It was widely distributed by the Soviet Union to those exposed Chernobyl radiation and is commonly used to help cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy.
Panax ginseng has prevented hemorrhaging after radiation exposure, prevents bone marrow death and stimulates blood cell formation, so it’s another supplement to add to one’s protocol.
In short:
Yeasts, beta glucans, bee pollen and various forms of ginseng have all been shown to bolster the immune system after radiation incidents. In terms of radiation burns, aloe vera has a proven ability to treat serious radiation burns and offers other radioprotective effects, and can easily be grown in your house.
Reishi mushrooms:
Consuming Reishi mushrooms is another proven way to bolster your immune system after radiation exposure and helps reduce the damage from radiation. It’s been used to decrease radiation sickness in animals and help them recover faster after potentially deadly exposure.
Miscellaneous:
The amino acid L-Glutamine can be used to help repair the intestine in case of the gastrointestinal syndrome usually suffered due to radiation exposure, and a variety of substances can help rebuild blood cells to prevent hematopoietic syndrome. Those particular foods include beet juice, liver extract, spleen extract, and shark alkyglycerols. Most oncologists don’t know that shark liver oil, with alkyglycerols, can help platelet counts rebound in days.
DU
Depleted Uranium is currently in the journalistic spotlight because U.S. weapons are made from this material, and after being fired leave a legacy of depleted uranium dust in the environment, which anyone can absorb. Because the kidneys are usually the first organs to show chemical damage upon uranium exposure, military manuals suggest doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate to help alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes the uranyl ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic uranium carbonate complex.
In areas contaminated by depleted uranium dusts, it therefore makes sense to switch to drinking slightly alkaline water and to favor a non-acidic diet to assist in this detoxification. The heavy metal detoxifiers mentioned previously should be part of the DU-detox diet.
Homeopathy
Another thing you can do is use homeopathics for radiation exposure.
People commonly argue over whether homeopathics work or not, but if you assume the position that they produce no results whatsoever then you must also assume that they certainly won’t hurt you, which means the only loss from using them is a few dollars. Frankly, there are countless cases and double-blind studies where homeopathic tinctures do provoke physical healing effects in the body. Therefore they are a viable adjunct treatment option.
One homeopathic, in particular, is URANIUM NITRICUM (nitrate of uranium) which homeopaths suggest should be used in cases of depleted uranium exposure or uranium poisoning. Not just soldiers or civilians exposed to battlefield dusts, but uranium miners and radiation workers may find it quite useful.
Spiderwort
While we’ve discussed just a few of the many supplements and protocols you can use to help detox the body of the lingering results of radioactive contamination, including the residues of depleted uranium, the last thing that might be of interest is that there is a plant that is a natural geiger counter. The Spiderwort plant is so sensitive to changes in radiation levels (its petals change color upon exposure) that it’s often used as a natural radiation detector (dosimeter), just as they use canaries in mines as detectors of poisonous gas. Some people like knowing that they have an ongoing monitoring system for radiation in the environment, and this is just another tip available in "How to Neutralize the Harmful Effects of Radiation or Radioactive Exposure."

Radon and its decay products are the major contributors to human exposure from natural radiation sources.
World Health Organization has identified the chronic residential exposure to radon and its decay products as the second cause of lung cancer after tobacco consumption and also as the main risk-factor in never smokers.
Radiation exposure through drinking water results from naturally occurring radionuclides in drinking water sources, in particular alpha-radiation–emitting uranium, radium, and their progeny, including radon. ... Ingested radionuclides are absorbed into the blood (International Commission on Radiological Protection 2007) and accumulate in specific tissues that they may damage. Of absorbed uranium, 66% is rapidly eliminated via urine, while the rest is distributed and stored in the kidney (12–25%), bone (10–15%), and soft tissue. Radium deposits mostly in the bone. Ingested radon gas diffuses into the stomach wall, making the stomach wall the tissue most irradiated by ingested radon because of its short half-life (3.8 days).
Natural uranium induces chemical toxicity, especially nephrotoxicity, which is more harmful than radiotoxicity; whereas radium and radon are thought to induce solely radiotoxicity. ...
Biological effects of uranium in kidneys were reported, including modifications in renal metabolism of xenobiotics, vitamin D homeostasis, and iron homeostasis. Excessive iron accumulation and apoptosis in the tubulointerstitial region and uranium-induced oxidative stress were reported. Histological lesions of renal tissue were also observed, mainly in the cortical part of the kidneys ....
Concerning radium, most animal studies have investigated effects on bone after radium injection.
Both 226Ra and 228Ra rapidly induce changes in bone structure and hematopoiesis. Bone sarcomas were found in all species tested within a life span follow-up [Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) 1990]. Leukemias were reported after 224Ra injection (ATSDR 1990). The major evidence concerning radium exposure effects come from epidemiological studies of radium dial painters, which indicated a positive dose–response relationship in humans for bone and head and neck sarcomas. Authors concluded that 228Ra was about twice as effective at causing bone sarcoma as 226Ra, whereas head carcinoma was associated only with 226Ra. ...
... it is well-known that the Semipalatinsk region in the north-eastern Kazakhstan was used for testing nuclear weapons for the
Soviet army during the period 1949–1989. During the testing period, several hundred thousand people in Semipalatinsk, the Eastern Kazakhstan, Pavlodar regions of Kazakhstan and Altay region of Russian Federation were repeatedly exposed to radioactive fallout. Radionuclides emanating from these tests resulted in atmospheric and environmental contaminations leading to various levels of acute and chronic radiation exposures. Long-lived radionuclides such as strontium and plutonium are present in these areas. Health effects of radiation released as a result of the tests remain as a serious concern. ...
The main concern in Kazakhstan is that approximately 85% of the urban population lives in territories where environmental pollution is known to be exceeded permissible standards together with vastly unknown contamination problems. ...
Radon comes into the residential rooms through the foundation or standing out from the building materials.
As a result, there can be high levels of radiation in the room. Furthermore, radon enters into the house via tap water and cooking gas. The contribution of radon in the formation of an average human dose is estimated to be more than 50%, so the radionuclides of radon are responsible for more than a half of the total dose of radiation, which receives an average human body from natural and man-made radionuclides environment. The general effects of radon to the human body are caused by its radioactivity and it consequently carries a risk of radiation-induced cancer. In the studies of uranium miners, the workers who were exposed to the high levels of radon have shown an increased frequency of chromosomal aberrations in blood lymphocytes. Many studies have shown a correlation between the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities and a cancer risk. Popp et al. studied the chromosomal aberrations as biomarkers of genetic damage in blood lymphocytes of the former East German uranium miners who have been exposed to radon for estimation health risk for lung carcinogenesis. The authors found an increase of the frequency of chromosomal aberrations in blood lymphocytes of radon exposed population in comparison with control population.
... Increased risk of lung cancer in radon-exposed miners with elevated frequency of chromosomal aberrations was demonstrated by Smerhovsky et al.. ... A 1 % increase in the frequency of aberrant cells was paralleled by 62 % increase of cancer. A causal relationship between radon exposure and lung cancer is defined also by many other authors. ..
Some studies have found a positive correlation between the incidence of adenocarcinoma in the group of non-smoking women and the increasing concentration of radon in the living room. Some studies have showed a statistically significant relation between cumulative radon exposure and the risk of extra pulmonary cancers. However, most of researchers think that the risk factor for bronchial tubes by radon inhalation is much higher than for the other organs of the human body. The main targets for the cancer induction are the segmental bronchia. Radon exposure is considered the first cause of lung cancer in never smokers.
... Radon can enhance effects of other factors such as cigarette smoke, dust, and exhaust gases.
Tobacco smoke increases the oncogenic effect of radon by 2 to 10 times and, most importantly, radon significantly reduces the latency period for lung cancer. ... According to the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, radon is responsible for about 20 % of all lung cancer diseases in the world. Exposure to radon is the second leading risk factor, causing approximately 21,000 cases of lung cancer per year in the United States. British Radiation Protection Bureau reports that in the UK 1400 people die each year from radon-induced lung cancer. ... in Ontario (Canada), 13.6 % of deaths from lung cancer caused by radon action. Based on the assessment the Government of Canada revised the guideline for the exposure to radon in indoor air from 800 Bq / m3 to 200 Bq / m3 in June 2007.
The strange sleeping sickness in the Kalachi village (North Kazakhstan) was first registered in March 2013.
For two years, people have been experiencing these sudden urges to fall asleep and some people remained sleeping for as long as two days. In January 2015 above one hundred people, including children of Kalachi village, diagnosed with “encephalopathy of unknown etiology” were taken to hospital. Kalachi is located in the vicinity of Krasnogorsk city, where uranium ore mined during the Soviet period. One of the most popular versions of this strange sleeping symptom is the uranium poisoning and the influence of radiation. The experts produced 200 measurements of gamma background outdoor and 100 indoor. The value of gamma background was 0, 08 – 0, 14µ Sv / h (at a rate of 0.3 µ Sv / h). Measurements carried out in homes which showed radon levels from 226 to 567 Bq / m at a rate of 200 Bq / m3. However, the cause of the disease has not been established until now.

Sodium Alginate is an extract of seaweed, used by molecular chefs for the spherification process.
It forms a gel in the presence of calcium ions.
Sodium Alginate is a gelling agent that dilutes when cold with strong agitation.
It can be used to create soft, firm, ambient and heat-resistant gels and to produce foams.
Sodium Alginate is also commonly used as a thickener, emulsifier and texture improver.
- Brand: Special Ingredients
- Pure and Natural Powder
- 100% Pure Sodium Alginate E401
- Use in spherification and reverse spherification
- Improves texture
- Can be used to thicken solutions and liquids
- Create soft or firm heat resistant gels
- shipping -- from UK via Amazon.ca
- Shelf life of 2 years.
How to use:
For spherification use 1% of sodium alginate by weight of liquid.
To disperse, either add it whilst vigorously stirring the liquid, or mix with another dry ingredient (such as sugar) before adding to the liquid.
Because the powder starts gelling in the presence of calcium, do not try to use in a high calcium liquid, e.g. milk.
To make the process easier, use a low-calcium bottled water.
Add the powder to liquid or puree and use a syringe to squeeze droplets into a calcium bath, where they turn into caviar pearls.
Switch around the two ingredients for reverse spherification (using the sodium alginate for the water bath).
Storage Conditions: Please store in dry, cool conditions and not in direct sunlight. Shelf life of 2 years.

MagNascent Iodine, is a consumable form of nascent iodine and is not produced chemically or electrolytically. Nascent iodine is a form of iodine thought to be safer and more effective than other forms. It has a well recognized ability to fight infections in this state. The iodine atom is a paramagnetic atom and is subject to magnetic charging. When activated by adding to water, it is active for 2 to 3 hours. During this time it is readily available to be used by the body and is the most usable form of iodine.
Iodine has been shown to kill candida albicans.
"Of all the elements known so far to be essential for human health, iodine is the most misunderstood and the most feared. Yet, iodine is the safest of all the essential trace elements, being the only one that can be administered safely for long periods of time to large numbers of patients in daily amounts as high as 100,000 times the RDA."
Dr. Brownstein
Dr. Abraham has proposed that the optimal daily dose of iodine for a person is approximately 12.5 mg, which is 100 times the RDA of 0.125 mg. He believes that the current prevailing medical opinion that more than 2 mg a day of iodine is toxic is wrong.
Articles:
For protection from radiation take 5 drops 3 times a day
1oz -2% Nascent Iodine bottle will go a long way as the doses are only drops a day.

How Novasonic Works
In 1928, Erwin Schliephake, a German scientist, discovered that sound waves accelerated healing.
When sound waves are applied to the body, the cells and tissue absorb some of the energy, thus increasing circulation to enhance healing.
A Novasonic Transducer is a compact and high-precision electrical device which transmits sound waves to the treatment area through a ‘sound-head,’ applied without pressure to the skin surface. The sound waves can penetrate up to 2 1/4? within the body, treating areas inaccessible to conventional manipulative techniques. The intensity of the waves and associated vibration can be adjusted easily, just like the volume on a radio.
The Novasonic massager utilizes a sound transducer that vibrates at selected frequencies within the audible range (between 16-20,000 Hertz). Sound waves are transmitted to the treatment area through a specially designed “sound head”, applied without pressure to the skin surface.
The sound waves can penetrate up to 2 Ľ” within the body, treating areas inaccessible to other techniques.
Furthermore, the intensity of the waves and accompanying vibration can be adjusted easily.
The unit may look like an ultrasound unit, but Novasonic uses audible sounds, a different technology.
This provides intensive stimulation of the natural functions of the cellular, circulatory and nervous systems.
The Novasonic has two speeds (high and low), and an intensity control knob.
There are two sound heads; flat for large areas, and round for points.
The Novasonic can be used to stimulate cartilage, joints, muscles, and tissue.
The direct consequence of each molecular impact is to create altering compression and dilation zones in effect, a form of massage, but at a cellular level, deep within the treated tissue. This stimulation results in an immediate and demonstrable tightening of the cell-wall membranes, leading to increased blood circulation and improved metabolism. It is by this intensive stimulation of the natural functions of the cellular, circulatory and nervous systems of the body that the beneficial effects of the therapy are achieved. Novasonic simply gives nature a helping hand. Users report significant relief, particularly in the joints.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How does the Novasonic unit actually function?
Novasonic has a small head in the end of the unit that turns ordinary, household 60 Hz electricity into a range of audible sound waves that can easily penetrate the body up to 2.5 inches deep.
-
Does the Novasonic generate heat in the tissues?
No heat is generated. Any warming sensation is due to increased circulation.
-
Just what is it about the Novasonic that does cause some relief?
The sound waves or vibrations are in the hearing range and they stimulate local circulation and relax muscles and tissues just like any type of massage would, except much more gently.
-
What are the basics of the Novasonic Unit?
The Novasonic handle weighs less than one pound. It uses less than 25 watts of electricity.
The unit is very portable for trips since it is less than two pounds with the carrying case.
-
Are there any special instructions for best and safe use of the Novasonic?
Always unplug the transformer when not in use (extends the life of the transformer).
It is recommended that the unit not be used on the lower back or the abdominal region of any pregnant woman.
It is recommended that it not be used on the chest area of a person using a pacemaker.
These are all reasonable and prudent precautions.
If you have blood clot problems of the lower leg do not use the unit on your calf since any form of massage there could loosen the clots leading to extremely serious outcomes. As always, if you have any medical condition you are strongly urged to consult with your physician. Keep in mind that this is NOT a medical device and we make no medical claims regarding use.
-
Do I have to push the unit really hard against my body to get good results?
No, in fact use only a light touch. About 1 or 2 ounces of pressure is best.
If you push hard, you will dampen the power of the unit and stop its effectiveness.
-
How well built is the Novasonic unit?
It is an extremely fine, quality unit made in Europe by skilled technicians.
The unit is a good appliance and like any quality unit should be treated as such.
It is advised that turning the power knob should be done gently.
It is also advised that if you use the unit with creams or oils that a plastic baggy be placed over the head of the unit to protect it from the creams and oils since they will rapidly degrade the rubber membrane found just under the power head. This use of oils and cremes is not covered under the warranty and will lead to repair fees.
If you choose to change the head — screw off the head and screw on the other head, but MBR>
please do NOT over-tighten the head as this can possibly damage the unit.
The Novasonic should yield great comfort for years if carefully used and kept clean.
This chrome model includes a bi-modal switch with percussion therapy.
2 year manufacturer warranty. Ships via Standard Delivery.
Plugs into AC. 8" L x 2" W x 3" D. (19 oz.)
DEFINITIONS.
apoptosis
A natural process of self-destruction by degradative enzymes in certain cells, such as epithelial cells and erythrocytes, that are genetically programmed to have a limited lifespan or are damaged, as by irradiation or toxic drugs. Also called programmed cell death.

Iraqi and visiting doctors, and a number of news reports, have reported that birth defects and cancers in Iraqi children have increased 5- to 10-fold since the 1991 Gulf War and continue to increase sharply, to over 30-fold in some areas in southern Iraq. Currently, more than 50 percent of Iraqi cancer patients are children under the age of 5, up from 13 percent. Children are especially vulnerable because they tend to play in areas that are heavily polluted by depleted uranium.
The Pentagon has been using radioactive weapons for at least a decade and a half with full complicity of at least three (USA) White House administrations and Republican and Democratic congressional legislators. Conservatively, at least 300 tons and 1,700 tons of depleted uranium were used in the Gulf War and the current Iraq War, respectively. This is about 70 grams of depleted uranium per Iraqi citizen, and if inhaled or ingested, it is enough to kill them all. ...
brassica
Brassica is a genus of plants in the mustard family.
The members of the genus are informally known as cruciferous vegetables, cabbages, or mustard plants.
Others include Arugula Leaves, Brussels Sprouts, Purple Cabbage, Savoy Cabbage, Kale, Maca Root, Brassica Sprouts.
Less common selections are Bok choy (pak-choi), Broccoli, Cauliflower, Horseradish, Kohlrabi (German turnip), Radish, Turnip, Watercress.
Brassica provide high amounts of vitamin C and soluble fiber and contain nutrients with anticancer properties: 3,3'-diindolylmethane, sulforaphane and selenium. Boiling reduces the level of anticancer compounds, but steaming, microwaving, and stir frying do not result in significant loss. Steaming these vegetable for 3 to 4 minutes is recommended to maximize sulforaphane.
Brassica vegetables are rich in indole-3-carbinol, a chemical which boosts DNA repair in cells in vitro and appears to block the growth of cancer cells in vitro. They are also a good source of carotenoids, with broccoli having especially high levels. Researchers at the University of California at Berkeley have recently discovered that 3,3'-diindolylmethane in Brassica vegetables is a potent modulator of the innate immune response system with potent antiviral, antibacterial and anticancer activity.
These vegetables also contain goitrogens, some of which suppress thyroid function.
Goitrogens can induce hypothyroidism and goiter in the absence of normal iodine intake.
eukaryotic
A eukaryote is any organism whose cells have a cell nucleus and other organelles enclosed within membranes.
Eukaryotes belong to the domain Eukaryota or Eukarya, and can be unicellular or multicellular organisms.
The defining feature that sets eukaryotic cells apart from prokaryotic cells (Bacteria and Archaea) is that they have membrane-bound organelles, especially the nucleus, which contains the genetic material enclosed by the nuclear membrane. The presence of a nucleus gives eukaryotes their name.
The domain Eukaryota appears to be monophyletic, and makes up one of the domains of life in the three-domain system. The two other domains, Bacteria and Archaea, are prokaryotes and have none of the above features. Eukaryotes represent a tiny minority of all living things. However, due to their generally much larger size, their collective worldwide biomass is estimated to be about equal to that of prokaryotes. Eukaryotes evolved approximately 1.6–2.1 billion years ago, during the Proterozoic eon.
Eukaryotic cells also contain other membrane-bound organelles such as mitochondria and the Golgi apparatus. In addition, plants and algae contain chloroplasts. Unlike unicellular archaea and bacteria, eukaryotes may also be multicellular and include organisms consisting of many kinds of tissue and cell types.
glomeruli
Tiny tufts of capillaries which carry blood within the kidneys.
The blood is filtered by the glomeruli. The blood then continues through the circulatory system, but a certain amount of fluid and specific waste products are filtered out of the blood, to be removed from the body in the form of urine.
pyknosis
A degenerative condition of a cell nucleus marked by clumping of the chromosomes, hyperchromatism, and shrinking of the nucleus.
Pyknosis occurs in senescent (old) leukocytes and results from preprogrammed cell death (apoptosis).
With pyknosis, the nucleus becomes dense and compact and begins to fragment (karyorrhexis) resulting in spheres of dark-staining nuclear chromatin. Therefore, pyknotic cells have an intact cytoplasmic membrane with one or more, variably sized, dense, round, dark nuclear fragments.

Water Talk - Uranium in Drinking Water
Health Canada -- Environmental and Workplace Health
Date modified: 2011-06-23
-
How does reverse osmosis remove uranium?
Reverse osmosis is a process that filters most impurities from water by passing it through a very fine membrane.
Contaminants such as uranium are left behind on the membrane while treated water passes through.
You may need to install a pre-filter before the reverse osmosis system.
-
How does distillation remove uranium?
A distillation system works by boiling water into water vapour, then returning it to its liquid state.
The minerals and contaminants such as uranium form scales and are trapped in the boiling chamber.
The condensed water is collected in a storage container for consumption.
-
How does anion (negatively-charged ion) exchange remove uranium?
Anion exchange is a form of ion exchange similar to that used for water softening.
The principle of ion exchange is the removal of undesirable ions, by exchanging them for other ions as the water passes through a bed of a specialized resin. Ion exchange resins are specific to the types of ions you wish to remove.
The type of resin used for removing uranium is an anion based resin, which is different than the resin used in water softeners.

Articles on the Internet are transitory.
The publishers may remove them, change sites, change URLs, or change titles.
For the purpose of maintaining an availability of these articles for us, I have reprinted parts here with authorship maintained, coding simplified for error-free loading and minimal file size, and a LINK to the original document. NOTHING in writing is absolute; don't treat human opinion, projection, and observation as an Idol. Doing so can kill you, or worse, have you impose abuse on others.
I gathered and researched this data, mediated with the Grace of God through prayer, first, as a benefit in my interest in exploring available digital information which would acquaint me with the overall content related to the subject. I have found that God is ALWAYS available when we are Reverent in our Asking, open-minded in our Listening, and, Assertive in our Choice of Action. Doctors did not expect me to survive birth. In the past 25 years, medical and health "experts" have cautioned or directed me, more than 14 times, that I had little time left to live, or would die ... because THEY did not understand my challenges, were not motivated to professionally diagnose, or, chose to superstitiously recall as absolute previously flawed training. I am still alive beyond age 70. With the assistance of God, my Personality, the research and lack of dismissiveness of a number of persons ... I have found resolution to numerous health challenges. This has enabled me to assist many others who had been abandoned. May it also empower you. This is one document which you may find helpful as a BASIC introduction to the subject.
