Production of the most water soluble forms of chromium, the chromate and dichromates, was in the range of 250,000 tons in 1992. Though chromium occurs in nature mostly as chrome iron ore and is widely found in soils and plants, it is rare in natural waters. The two largest sources of chromium emission in the atmosphere are from the chemical manufacturing industry and combustion of natural gas, oil, and coal.

From 1987 to 1993, according to the Toxics Release Inventory, chromium compound releases to land and water totaled nearly 200 million pounds. These releases were primarily from industrial organic chemical industries. The largest releases occurred in Texas and North Carolina. The largest direct releases to water occurred in Georgia and Pennsylvania. ...

Chromium is a lustrous, brittle, hard metal. Its colour is silver-gray and it can be highly polished.
It does not tarnish in air, when heated it burns and forms the green chromic oxide. Chromium is unstable in oxygen, it immediately produces a thin oxide layer that is impermeable to oxygen and protects the metal below.

Applications
Chromium main uses are in alloys such as stainless steel, in chrome plating and in metal ceramics.
Chromium plating was once widely used to give steel a polished silvery mirror coating. Chromium is used in metallurgy to impart corrosion resistance and a shiny finish; as dyes and paints, its salts colour glass an emerald green and it is used to produce synthetic rubies; as a catalyst in dyeing and in the tanning of leather; to make molds for the firing of bricks. Chromium (IV) oxide (CrO2) is used to manufacture magnetic tape.

Chromium in the environment
Chromium is mined as chromite (FeCr2O4) ore. Chromium ores are mined today in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Finland, India, Kazakihstan and the Philippines. A total of 14 million tonnes of chromite ore is extracted. Reserves are estimated to be of the order of 1 billion tonnes with unexploited deposits in Greenland, Canada & USA.

Romaine lettuce is an excellent source of chromium while onions and tomatoes are very good sources of this mineral. Other food sources of chromium include brewer's yeast, oysters, liver, whole grains, bran cereals, and potatoes. Beer and wine can accumulate chromium during fermentation and are therefore considered to be dietary sources of the mineral. Many people do not get enough chromium in their diet due to food processing methods that remove the naturally occurring chromium in commonly consumed foods. ...

Chromium, without picolinate, is a natural mineral found in many foods such as meat, unprocessed foods, fats and vegetable oil. Specific foods that have chromium in them naturally include carrots, potatoes, broccoli, whole grains and molasses. Other examples include eggs, beef and brewer's yeast.

Just like with any supplement or drug, it's important to weigh the benefits with the possible side effects before adding chromium picolinate to your daily regimen. And you should also think about any other medications you currently use. ... If you know that you have any allergies to the ingredients in chromium picolinate, it's definitely a good idea to avoid taking the supplements. In addition to any allergies, if you know that you're pregnant or nursing or have liver disease, diabetes, cancer or a weakened immune system, you will want to avoid taking chromium picolinate ....

Chromium (may) assists in carbohydrate and fat metabolism.
As the active component of glucose tolerance factor (GTF), chromium plays a fundamental role in controlling blood sugar levels. The primary function of GTF is to increase the action of insulin. Insulin is the hormone responsible for carrying sugar (glucose) into the cells where it can be used for energy.

After a meal, blood glucose levels begin to rise, and, in response, the pancreas secretes insulin.
Insulin lowers blood glucose levels by increasing the rate in which glucose enters the cells.
To accomplish this, insulin must be able to attach to receptors on the surface of cells.
GTF is believed to initiate the attachment of insulin to the insulin receptors. ...

Under most circumstances, food processing methods decrease the chromium content of foods.
For example, chromium naturally occurs in the bran and germ of whole grains. When whole grains are milled to make flour, the germ and bran are removed, and consequently most of the chromium is lost. Also, the refinement of sugar cane and sugarbeets to make sugar (sucrose) removes most of the chromium that naturally occurs in the plants.

On the other hand, acidic foods cooked in stainless steel cookware can accumulate chromium by leaching the mineral from the cookware. ...

If you have diabetes or heart disease, the amount of chromium your body needs may be increased.
You may also need extra chromium if you experience physical injury or trauma or mental stress.
All of these conditions increase the excretion of chromium. But in addition, in the case of stress, the need for increased chromium may relate directly to blood sugar imbalance. Under severe stress, the body increases its output of certain hormones. These hormonal changes alter blood sugar balance, and this altered blood sugar balance can create a need for more chromium. ...

Calcium carbonate, found in calcium supplements and antacids, decreases the absorption of chromium, while aspirin is believed to increase chromium absorption. ...

Diets high in simple sugars increase the urinary excretion of chromium and rob the body of some of the chromium it needs.

Diets rich in whole grains can also decrease absorption of chromium, since whole grains contain a compound called phytic acid, which can bind to chromium, form an insoluble complex, and prevent it from being absorbed.

Whole grains, however, contain significant amounts of chromium, and the activity of phytic acid in grains does not prevent us from getting chromium from whole grain foods. As a result, a diet rich in whole grains is still unlikely to increase our risk of chromium deficiency.

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) increases the absorption of chromium. ...

People can be exposed to chromium through breathing, eating or drinking and through skin contact with chromium or chromium compounds. The level of chromium in air and water is generally low. In drinking water the level of chromium is usually low as well, but contaminated well water may contain the dangerous chromium(IV); hexavalent chromium. For most people eating food that contains chromium(III) is the main route of chromium uptake, as chromium(III) occurs naturally in many vegetables, fruits, meats, yeasts and grains. Various ways of food preparation and storage may alter the chromium contents of food. When food in stores in steel tanks or cans chromium concentrations may rise.

Chromium(III) is an essential nutrient for humans and shortages may cause heart conditions, disruptions of metabolisms and diabetes. But the uptake of too much chromium(III) can cause health effects as well, for instance skin rashes.

Chromium(VI) is a danger to human health, mainly for people who work in the steel and textile industry.
People who smoke tobacco also have a higher chance of exposure to chromium.

Chromium(VI) is known to cause various health effects.
When it is a compound in leather products, it can cause allergic reactions, such as skin rash.
After breathing it in chromium(VI) can cause nose irritations and nosebleeds.

Other health problems that are caused by chromium(VI) are:
    • Skin rashes
    • Upset stomachs and ulcers
    • Respiratory problems
    • Weakened immune systems
    • Kidney and liver damage
    • Alteration of genetic material
    • Lung cancer
    • Death

The health hazards associated with exposure to chromium are dependent on its oxidation state.
The metal form (chromium as it exists in this product) is of low toxicity. The hexavalent form is toxic.
Adverse effects of the hexavalent form on the skin may include ulcerations, dermatitis, and allergic skin reactions.
Inhalation of hexavalent chromium compounds can result in ulceration and perforation of the mucous membranes of the nasal septum, irritation of the pharynx and larynx, asthmatic bronchitis, bronchospasms and edema. Respiratory symptoms may include coughing and wheezing, shortness of breath, and nasal itch.

Biochemistry of chromium(III) picolinate.
Once chromium(III) picolinate is ingested and enters the stomach, acidic hydrolysis of the complex occurs when in contact with the stomach mucosa. The hydrolyzed Cr3+ is present in the hexaaqua form and polymerizes to form an insoluble Cr(III)-hydroxide-oxide (the process of olation) once it reaches the alkaline pH of the small intestine. Approximately 2% of Cr3+ is absorbed through the gut as chromium(III) picolinate via unsaturated passive transport. Although absorption is low, CrPic3 absorbs more efficiently than other organic and inorganic sources (i.e. CrCl3 and chromium nicotinate) and thus accumulate at higher concentrations in tissues. This has been one major selling point for chromium(III) picolinate over other chromium(III) supplements. Organic sources tend to absorb better as they have ligands which are more lipophilic and usually neutralize the charge of the metal, thus permitting for easier passage through the intestinal membrane.

It has also been shown that dietary factors affect Cr3+ absorption.
Starch, simple sugars, oxalic acid, and some amino acids tend to increase the rate of absorption of chromium(III). This is a result of ligand chelation, converting hexaaqua Cr3+ into more lipophilic forms. In contrast, calcium, magnesium, titanium, zinc, vanadium, and iron reduce the rate of absorption. Presumably, these ions introduce new metal-ligand equilibria, thus decreasing the lipophilic ligand pool available to Cr3+.

Once absorbed into the bloodstream, 80% of the Cr3+ from CrPic3 is passed along to transferrin.
The exact mechanism of release is currently unknown, however, it is believed not to occur by a single electron reduction, as in the case of Fe3+, due to the high instability of Cr2+. Administered Cr3+ can be found in all tissues ranging from 10–100 µg/kg body weight. It is excreted primarily in the urine (80%) while the rest is excreted in sweat and feces.

Transferrin, in addition to chromodulin has been identified as a major physiological chromium transport agent, although a recent study found that Cr3+ in fact disables transferrin from acting as a metal ion transport agent. While transferrin is highly specific for ferric ions, at normal conditions, only 30% of transferrin molecules are saturated with ferric ions, allowing for other metals, particularly those with a large charge to size ratio, to bind as well. ...

Carcinogenicity-
Chromium and most trivalent chromium compounds have been listed by the National Toxicology Program (NTP) as having inadequate evidence for carcinogenicity in experimental animals. According to NTP, there is sufficient evidence for carcinogenicity in experimental animals for the following hexavalent chromium compounds; calcium chromate, chromium trioxide, lead chromate, strontium chromate, and zinc chromate.

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has listed chromium metal and its trivalent compounds within Group 3 (The agent is not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans.) Chromium is not regulated as a carcinogen by OSHA (29 CFR 1910 Subpart Z). ACGIH has classified chromium metal and trivalent chromium compounds as A4,not classifiable as a human carcinogen.

Cr-en.htm#Environmental%20effects%20of%20chromium

There are several different kinds of chromium that differ in their effects upon organisms.
Chromium enters the air, water and soil in the chromium(III) and chromium(VI) form through natural processes and human activities.

The main human activities that increase the concentrations of chromium (III) are steal, leather and textile manufacturing.
The main human activities that increase chromium(VI) concentrations are chemical, leather and textile manufacturing, electro painting and other chromium(VI) applications in the industry. These applications will mainly increase concentrations of chromium in water. Through coal combustion chromium will also end up in air and through waste disposal chromium will end up in soils.

Most of the chromium in air will eventually settle and end up in waters or soils.
Chromium in soils strongly attaches to soil particles and as a result it will not move towards groundwater. In water chromium will absorb on sediment and become immobile. Only a small part of the chromium that ends up in water will eventually dissolve. Chromium(III) is an essential element for organisms that can disrupt the sugar metabolism and cause heart conditions, when the daily dose is too low. Chromium(VI) is mainly toxic to organisms. It can alter genetic materials and cause cancer.

Crops contain systems that arrange the chromium-uptake to be low enough not to cause any harm.
But when the amount of chromium in the soil rises, this can still lead to higher concentrations in crops. Acidification of soil can also influence chromium uptake by crops. Plants usually absorb only chromium(III). This may be the essential kind of chromium, but when concentrations exceed a certain value, negative effects can still occur.

Chromium is not known to accumulate in the bodies of fish, but high concentrations of chromium, due to the disposal of metal products in surface waters, can damage the gills of fish that swim near the point of disposal.

In animals chromium can cause respiratory problems, a lower ability to fight disease, birth defects, infertility and tumor formation.

Benefits of Chromium Picolinate
by TRACI JOY -- Oct. 03, 2017

Chromium picolinate has been heavily promoted in our society as a miracle supplement that might provide your body with numerous benefits helping a wide range of people looking for ways to combat their diabetes and obesity or help with their muscle-building issues.

Diabetes Benefits
Chromium plays a role in the metabolism of fats and carbohydrates in your body and has been studied for its effect on diabetes. With a condition referred to as insulin resistance, diabetics are not able to use insulin properly. Researchers at the University of Wyoming examined the effects of chromium picolinate in diabetic models of obese mice. The results of their study, published in the June 2008 issue of "Obesity," show that chromium improved diabetes markers by alleviating both glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. This is due to chromium improving the signaling action of insulin and lowering the amount of sugars that are left to circulate in your bloodstream.

Every time we eat, our bodies release a hormone called insulin. Insulin originates in our pancreas and plays a part in supplying our body with glucose, something our cells require in order to function. You can think of it in terms that glucose is to cells as fuel is to cars. ... Chromium has been shown to help insulin carry glucose to the body's cells. It's then believed that chromium has a role in overseeing the breakdown of fat and glucose (but this rationalization is a very loose theory). ... there's a theory that because chromium streamlines the production of insulin, it has an effect on serotonin. Another theory claims that chromium in the body helps keep fat production in check. And yet another theory states that chromium boosts the processes of protein in the body.

Cholesterol Benefits
High cholesterol is an excess of fats in the bloodstream that may build up on your arterial walls, leading to heart disease, heart attack or stroke. Chromium picolinate may help lower your cholesterol levels, according to a review in the December 2006 issue of "Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics." Authors state that numerous studies show that chromium reduces blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The fact that chromium picolinate is better absorbed than other forms of chromium may play a part in its cholesterol-lowering benefits.

Heart Benefits
Chromium picolinate may also benefit your heart health, according to a study published in "Pharmacological Reports" in 2010. Researchers examined the effects of chromium picolinate against several markers of heart disease, including elevated blood pressure and abnormal vascular function. Their results show that while this supplement doesn't affect blood pressure, chromium picolinate does promote the relaxation of blood vessels and improves blood flow and the rate of recovery of heart muscle after heart attack damage.

Precautions
As with any dietary supplement, there are precautions you should be aware of when considering chromium picolinate supplementation. According to MedlinePlus, chromium picolinate is generally safe when used as a supplement for less than six months. However, when used longer than six months users have reported headaches, nausea, dizziness, impaired judgment and loss of coordination. More serious side effects include liver and kidney damage. ...

Chromium is paired with acidic picolinate in pill form to help aid the body's ability to absorb the mineral.
Picolinate is produced when tryptophan is made, therefore it's also known as a by-product of tryptophan.
... since picolinate isn't found naturally occurring with chromium, the picolinate may eventually break apart from the chromium and have negative effects. It has been noted that some variations of chromium picolinate can irritate the gastrointestinal tract and even lead to ulcers. If taken in high doses, chromium picolinate can cause dermatitis and organ damage.

A 2013 analysis of 11 studies (published in the journal Obesity Reviews) found that using chromium picolinate for weight loss resulted in an average weight loss of only 1.1 lbs. after 8 to 24 weeks of use.

Furthermore, some participants in the studies experienced watery stools, vertigo, headaches, and hives (urticaria).

A significant amount of chromium is excreted in urine, so urine chromium is reflective of exposure and bodily stores.
Diurnal variation in urine chromium secretion may limit the utility of spot urine chromium determination. (A 24-hour collection will be more accurate and should be performed if significant chromium deficiency or excess is suspected.)

Chromium is primarily present in 2 forms: trivalent of Chromium and hexavalent or Chromium VI.
The hexavalent form is considered to be 500 to 1000 times more toxic than the trivalent form. ... The hexavalent form is usually converted to the trivalent form before being fixed in biological tissue; elevated excretion of chromium in urine could therefore reflect increased exposure to either form.

Diabetics are observed to have elevated urine chromium, and, individuals with prosthetic joints containing chromium containing alloys may also have elevated chromium in urine, as the bearing surfaces start to wear. Chromium exposure may occur via foods (see above) however, it would be difficult to elevate chromium through natural dietary intake. Excessive chromium supplementation through Brewer's Yeast, chromium GTF or chromium picolinate (in weight loss supplements) could elevate urine chromium. (NOTE that chromium GTF is not toxic, even at extremely high doses.) Tobacco also contains chromium.

Industrial exposure to chromium can take place through welding of stainless steel, electroplating and chemical industries that use chromium compounds such as dichromate. Exposure to chromium mist, particulates, or solutions can lead to

    • exzematous dermatitis,
    • nasal irritation,
    • asthma,
    • an increased risk of lung cancer and ...
    • increased risk of cancers of the digestive tract &
    • increased risk of upper respiratory tract,
    • teratogenic results,
      and mutagenic outcomes.

Major factors governing the toxicity of chromium compounds are oxidation state and solubility.
Cr(VI) compounds, which are powerful oxidizing agents and thus tend to be irritating and corrosive, appear to be much more toxic systemically than Cr(III) compounds, given similar amounts and solubilities. Although mechanisms of biological interaction are uncertain, this variation in toxicity may be related to the ease with which Cr(VI) can pass through cell membranes and its subsequent intracellular reduction to reactive intermediates.

    Side Effects of Chromium Picolinate
    • Insomnia
    • Mood changes
    • Irritability
    • Headache
    • Coordination or balance problems
    • Trouble concentrating or problems thinking
    • Symptoms of liver problems, which include:
      --- nausea; upper stomach pain; itching; feeling tired; loss of appetite;
--- dark-colored urine; clay-colored stools; or yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice)

anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction that may include hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Mechanism of Chromium Toxicity
Since Cr(III) is poorly absorbed by any route, the toxicity of chromium is mainly attributable to the Cr(VI) form.
It can be absorbed by the lung and gastrointestinal tract, and even to a certain extent by intact skin.

The reduction of Cr(VI) is considered to serve as a detoxification process when it occurs at a distance from the target site for toxic or genotoxic effect while reduction of Cr(VI) may serve to activate chromium toxicity if it takes place in or near the cell nucleus of target organs [Dayan and Paine 2001]. ... Cr(VI) enters many types of cells and under physiological conditions can be reduced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), glutathione (GSH) reductase, ascorbic acid, and GSH to produce reactive intermediates, including Cr(V), Cr(IV), thiylradicals, hydroxyl radicals, and ultimately, Cr(III). Any of these species could attack DNA, proteins, and membrane lipids, thereby disrupting cellular integrity and functions [De Mattia, Bravi et al. 2004].

Chromium allergic dermatitis is characterized by symptoms of
    • dryness,
    • erythema,
    • fissuring,
    • papules,
    • scaling,
    • small vesicles, and
    • swelling [MacKie 1981; Adams 1990].

... Penetration of the skin will cause painless erosive ulceration ("chrome holes") with delayed healing.
These commonly occur on the fingers, knuckles, and forearms. The characteristic chrome sore begins as a papule, forming an ulcer with raised hard edges. Ulcers can penetrate deep into soft tissue or become the site of secondary infection, but are not known to lead to malignancy [Deng, Fleeger et al. 1990; Geller 2001; Lewis 2004; Meditext 2005].

The mechanism of chromium-induced genotoxicity is not fully understood.
In one experiment, Cr(VI) plus glutathione induced DNA damage in vitro, whereas Cr(III) with or without glutathione did not. Chromium seems to exert its genetic effects by binding directly to DNA. It can produce stable DNA-chromium complexes, DNA strand breaks, DNA-DNA cross links, and DNA-protein cross links. The active species for DNA binding seems to be the trivalent form [De Flora, Bagnasco et al. 1990; Cohen, Kargacin et al. 1993; Meditext 2005]. ...

Cr(VI) compounds are clearly mutagenic in the majority of experimental situations [De Flora, Bagnasco et al. 1990; Cohen, Kargacin et al. 1993]. It has caused chromosome aberrations in mammalian cells and has been associated with increased frequencies of chromosome aberrations in lymphocytes from chromate production workers. Increases in sister chromatid exchanges were seen in lymphocytes from workers exposed to chromium, cobalt, and nickel dusts [WHO 1990; Meditext 2005].

    Chromium Picolinate Interactions
    • Insulin
    • Levothyroxine (Synthroid)
    • Antacids
    • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),
... such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), aspirin, and others
    • Chromium-containing herbs and supplements
    • Iron
    • Vitamin C
    • Zinc

Medical Conditions which may be worsened by Chromium Picolinate.
    • liver disease;
    • kidney disease;
    • diabetes (especially if you use insulin);
    • an allergy to leather products;
    • mental illness;
    • a thyroid disorder; or
    • if you use steroid medicine (fluticasone, beclomethasone, prednisone, and others).

Human genetic modification is the direct manipulation of the genome using molecular engineering techniques.
Recently developed techniques for modifying genes are often called “gene editing.”
Genetic modification can be applied in two very different ways: “somatic genetic modification” and “germline genetic modification.”

Somatic genetic modification adds, cuts, or changes the genes in some of the cells of an existing person, typically to alleviate a medical condition. These gene therapy techniques are approaching clinical practice, but only for a few conditions, and at a very high cost.

Germline genetic modification would change the genes in eggs, sperm, or early embryos.
Often referred to as “inheritable genetic modification” or “gene editing for reproduction,” these alterations would appear in every cell of the person who developed from that gamete or embryo, and also in all subsequent generations. Germline modification has not been tried in humans (or, at least, no examples of experimentation have been shared publicly, or, recognized in the profession of biology) , but it would be, by far, the most consequential type of genetic modification. If used for enhancement purposes, it could open the door to a new market-based form of eugenics. Human germline modification has been prohibited by law in more than 40 countries, and by a binding international treaty of the Council of Europe (although enforcement and penalty aspects of regulation appear to be absent, or, downplayed).

Chronic exposure to nickel(II), chromium(VI), or inorganic arsenic (iAs) has long been known to increase cancer incidence among affected individuals. Recent epidemiological studies (2007) have found that carcinogenic risks associated with chromate and iAs exposures were substantially higher than previously thought, which led to major revisions of the federal standards regulating ambient and drinking water levels.

Genotoxic effects of Cr(VI) and iAs are strongly influenced by their intracellular metabolism, which creates several reactive intermediates and byproducts. Toxic metals are capable of potent and surprisingly selective activation of stress-signaling pathways, which are known to contribute to the development of human cancers.

Depending on the metal, ascorbate (vitamin C) has been found to act either as a strong enhancer or suppressor of toxic responses in human cells. In addition to genetic damage via both oxidative and nonoxidative (DNA adducts) mechanisms, metals can also cause significant changes in DNA methylation and histone modifications, leading to epigenetic silencing or reactivation of gene expression.

In vitro genotoxicity experiments and recent animal carcinogenicity studies provided strong support for the idea that metals can act as cocarcinogens in combination with nonmetal carcinogens. Cocarcinogenic and comutagenic effects of metals are likely to stem from their ability to interfere with DNA repair processes. Overall, metal carcinogenesis appears to require the formation of specific metal complexes, chromosomal damage, and activation of signal transduction pathways promoting survival and expansion of genetically/epigenetically altered cells.

(In other words, chromium, combined with other toxins capable of stimulating genetic modifications extended from chromosomal damage and DNA changes can produce human cancers. Some of these co-carcinogenic toxins include aluminum, arsenic, mercury, lead, uranium, gadolinium, and, transmutational fungi such as aspergillosis varieties and Candida albicans, and, certain transgenic viruses. Detoxing will NOT reverse, clear, or otherwise undo such changes and the symptoms they provide. )

In the past few years, growing research into genetically modified organisms (GMOs) has revealed two ugly truths: GMOs are more widespread than we thought, and they are more harmful than we thought. Further, the vast majority of Americans have been eating GMOs for decades without even knowing about it. ... GMO foods first hit the market in 1996. Since then, most of us have eaten GMOs in many foods, from soybeans, beef, dairy products, corn, beets, sugar, cottonseed, and rapeseed, which is used to make canola oil.

According to the USDA, only 3% of planted acres of corn in 1996 were planted with GMO herbicide-tolerant corn. Today, it’s 89%. In 1996, GMO herbicide-tolerant soybeans were planted in 7.4% of U.S. farm acreage. Today, (2017) it’s 94%. Meanwhile, experts estimate that as much as 75% of the processed foods sold in this country contain GMO ingredients. I’m willing to bet that this is even higher.

We have been unknowing and unwilling guinea pigs to a massive and dangerous experiment.
And study after study shows that pesticides (a term that includes herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides) from GMO plants are linked to cancer, neurological diseases (like Parkinson’s), and a number of other very serious health concerns. They have also been shown to cause cancer in children. ... Also in 2017, the groundbreaking Food Revolution hosted the GMO Revealed Summit. ... it all distilled down to is this:

  • Genetically modified food is not good for you. Period.
  • Genetically modified food is unsustainable and is destroying the planet.
  • Nearly all of the world’s food supply has GMOs in it.
  • Billion-dollar food manufacturers have been hiding these harmful effects from consumers

Today, most people carry a heavy burden of toxins, ranging from plastics to heavy metals to compounds found in drugs and -- nowadays -- food and beverages. One of my major concerns about GMOs is that they could easily increase our toxic load, leading to even more cancer diagnoses. ...

Remember, there are millions of dollars spent trying to discredit unbiased research that attempts to show the short-term and long-term effect of GMO foods --not just the effects on our health but also on the environment.

For example, if you search for “GMO foods,” the first search result is a site (I don’t want to dignify it by posting a link) that is funded by The Council of Biotechnology Information, whose members include BASF, Bayer, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont, Monsanto Company and Syngenta. Clearly, they have a vested interest in spreading disinformation.

No wonder so many people are confused about GMO foods.
We’ve been lied to for decades by companies that have a financial interest in keeping the truth away from us.
And they continue to fund campaigns to distort the truths that are finally bubbling to the surface. ...

Article: 9 Ways To Chelate Chemicals & Heavy Metals. INDEX

... Natural Chelation Methods

1) High Fats, Low Carb (H.F.L.C.), High Protein Diet:
This is a safe and natural way to chelate chemical and heavy metals.
The results take a longer time to achieve. ...

The aim is to burn fat cells and dump toxins whilst eating a low carb, high protein diet and to take extra fats (lipids) to help improve the cell wall (membrane) integrity and functioning.

Repairing the cell membrane (wall) removes chemicals and heavy metals that get attached to the cell walls receptor sites.
This enables better oxygen absorption and nutrition and waste disposal at the cellular level. i.e. allow the nutrients to get into the cells and allow waste out.

2) Organic Chlorella:
Green single celled freshwater micro-algae composed of proteins, that binds with chemical and metal toxins and transports them out of the body. Increases the bodies glutathione output and repairs detoxification pathways.

3) Cilantro:
This is a herb capable of mobilizing mercury, cadmium, lead and aluminum in both bones and the central nervous system.
Can remobilise more metal toxins than it can carry risking flooding of toxins into the surrounding tissue as metal ions break free from the cilantro.

4) Wheatgrass:
Primarily composed of chlorophyll, wheatgrass is rich in nutrients, vitamins and amino acids which bind to chemicals and heavy metals and help to chelate them out of the body,

5) Zeolites:
Minerals suspended in water work by the process of clathration forming an attachment to toxic metals and chemicals with stable bonds. This prevents additional reactions with tissues or organs as the heavy metals are eliminated from the body. Research shows clinoptilolite zeolite selectively binds to toxins including mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, radioactive particles, pesticides and volatile organic compounds. The zeolite I recommend has the smallest particle size of any of the zeolites I have seen and therefore the highest detoxing potential. It has also been granted GRAS status by the FDA.

6) Alpha Lipoic Acid:
This sulphur containing amino acid binds with heavy metals such as copper, iron, mercury and cadmium.
Being both water and lipid (fat) soluble it has good bioavailability in the body.
This can be taken with synthetic or natural chelating agents. ...

When you Chelate side effects can include:

1) Upset stomachs, fatigue, headaches, nausea and vomiting.
At my weakest taking EDTA caused extreme tiredness for 2 to 3 days after taking it.
The next day (EDTA was taken overnight) I would also suffer from a mild upset stomach.
These symptoms are to be expected. I suffered no other side effects. ...

2) Synthetic chelators bind with healthy minerals
(e.g. calcium, manganese and zinc) and remove them so vitamin and liquid mineral supplementation is essential whilst doing chelation therapy.

3) Kidney Failure.
There is a risk of overworking the kidneys as they filter minerals that are being pulled by the chelating agent causing possible permanent damage. Typically when incorrectly administered at too high a dose or without first testing kidney functioning.

4) Sudden drop in blood pressure causing dizziness or unconsciousness. ...

... the zeolites particle size is smaller than any other product available.
This means that it can be suspended within water molecules and it’s able to penetrate into the bodies cells, not just removing toxic metals from the cell wall (where many good metals like chromium, iron, manganese etc are knocked off the cell walls receptor sites to be replaced with toxic metals like lead and mercury for example) but actually removing toxins from deep within the cell. NutraThera’s Orea Clinoptilolite

... some zeolites contain Aluminium, Lead, Arsenic and even Uranium. ...
Different manufacturers have different standards and ethics. ...
Some health products from China have been proven to be loaded with lead.

... you can take it in one dose (e.g. 10 drops or take 5 drops morning and night if it makes you feel a little tired).
It is designed to bind efficiently to any metal ions that it comes into contact with and will not redeposit metals like some (others) ...

Acute Exposure, p 47
No proven antidote is available for chromium poisoning.
Acute poisoning is often fatal regardless of therapy.

Treatment in cases of acute high-level chromium exposure is usually supportive and symptomatic.
Fluid and electrolyte balance is critical.

Affected patients should be monitored carefully for evidence of
    • gastrointestinal bleeding,
    • hemolysis,
    • coagulopathy,
    • seizures, and
    • pulmonary dysfunction [Geller 2001].

Appropriate supportive measures may include ventilatory support, cardiovascular support, and renal and hepatic function monitoring.

When renal function is compromised, maintenance of adequate urine flow is important.
Progression to anuria is associated with poor prognosis [Meditext 2005].

Induction of vomiting is contraindicated, owing to the potential corrosive effects of the chromium compounds and the potential for rapid deterioration of the patient [Geller 2001; Meditext 2005].

... Orally administered ascorbic acid was found to be protective in experimental animals and was reported beneficial in at least one patient after chromium ingestion; however, no clinical trials have been conducted to confirm the efficacy of this treatment [Bradberry and Vale 1999].

Exchange transfusion was effective in reducing blood chromium levels 67% in one case of chromium poisoning, using 10.9 L of blood [Kelly, Ackrill et al. 1982]. Existing evidence does not allow the conclusion that exchange transfusion generally should be employed, however [Geller 2001].

Chronic Exposure, p 48
In most patients with chronic low-dose exposure, no specific treatment is needed.
The mainstay of management is removing the patient from further exposure and relying on the urinary and fecal clearance of the body burden. Although normal urinary excretion is quite rapid, forced diuresis has been used.

Except in the lungs, only small amounts of chromium are retained several weeks after exposure has ceased.
Dermatitis, liver and renal injury will not progress after removal from exposure, and, in most cases, the patient will recover. ...

Benefits of Chromium Picolinate
by TRACI JOY -- Oct. 03, 2017

LINK 5: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromium(III)_picolinate

People will try almost anything to lose weight.
Diet and exercise may be proven, but somehow, that strange new pill or supplement seems so much more appealing.
At best, such pills are useless. At worst, they can cause serious side effects and complications. Enter chromium picolinate, whose weight-loss benefits may come at the price of mutated DNA.

Chromium picolinate has been heavily promoted in our society as a miracle supplement that might provide your body with numerous benefits helping a wide range of people looking for ways to combat their diabetes and obesity or help with their muscle-building issues.

... promoters of chromium picolinate claim the supplement can do, such as curb depression, boost energy, prevent blemishes and even increase strength. Something to keep in mind, though, is the fact that not all of these claims have been substantiated ...

Chromium picolinate is a nutritional supplement.
Typically found in pill form, chromium picolinate can be purchased over the counter.
As a supplement, however, it isn't regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), so its claims as a miracle supplement aren't officially proven or disproven ....

A study was published (1998) to assess the toxicity of Cr(III) picolinate on humans.
The researchers that conducted this study used previous knowledge that Cr(III) is reduced to Cr(II) by cellular reductants such as NADH or cysteine. This reduced form of Cr(II) is shown to react with H2O2 to generate radical species which in turn oxidize DNA base pairs. With this knowledge in mind, the researchers administered ten women with 400 µm of chromium(III) picolinate a day for an eight-week period. By measuring the amount of an oxidized DNA base pair, 5-hydroxymethyl uracil using antibody titers, the group could infer the amount of DNA base pair oxidation occurring in direct relation to chromium(III) picolinate. The results of the study suggested that chromium(III) picolinate itself does not cause significant chromosomal damage in vivo.

Generally speaking, it has been shown that chromium(III) picolinate is not toxic to humans.
For most adults, it can be taken orally in doses up 1000 mg per day.
This low toxicity has generally been associated with low absorbance of Cr(III) in the body through the lungs, skin and gastrointestinal tract, coupled with high excretion. Normally, 99% of chromium(III) taken can be recovered in the feces of the user. There have been isolated incidences of chromium(III) supplementation leading to kidney failure, however this relationship is unclear and has yet to be tested.

Chromium picolinate is widely promoted to help users lose weight, build muscles, increase metabolic rate, lower cholesterol, and reduce cravings. To my knowledge only one small study has shown that it can affect cravings, and that was among patients with atypical depression. Supplementing with chromium picolinate has not been shown to actually help you lose weight, build muscle, lower your cholesterol, or increase your metabolic rate.

The possibility of DNA damage was suggested by studies of chromium picolinate in cell cultures.
There is no evidence of such an effect in any living organism. To follow-up on the cell culture results, researchers at New York University studied the effects of 400 micrograms of chromium picolinate over an eight week period in 10 overweight women and found no sign of DNA damage.

... marketing chromium picolinate, scientific research has not been able to support the claims that chromium picolinate helps people lose weight. Several studies conducted during the late 1990s, when chromium picolinate really started to soar in popularity, indicate that chromium picolinate does not contribute to more lean muscle or decreased fat in the body.

In 1996, the year the FTC fought three California companies for making unsupported claims about chromium, chromium picolinate was already being added into products such as chewing gum. That year, the FTC estimated that chromium picolinate experienced a yearly retail sale of $100 million. ...

... a 2011 study published in the journal Endocrine Practice found that chromium picolinate use had no effect on glucose or insulin concentrations, insulin sensitivity, or cholesterol levels among people at risk of type 2 diabetes.

In 2010, chromium(III) picolinate was approved by Health Canada to be used in dietary supplements.
Approved labeling statements include: a factor in the maintenance of good health, provides support for healthy glucose metabolism, helps the body to metabolize carbohydrates and helps the body to metabolize fats.

The Limitations of Most Laboratory Research.

The way in which we humans have both authoritatively directed and been scientifically limited in much of our exploration into and discernment about possible hazards, benefits, and even dynamics of substances and ingredients is reflected in the published academic, health market, and, medical studies that have been done and reports that have been promoted.

First, we have created, sanctioned through our medical and educational institutions, and adopted in our mass media the pseudo-science attitude that idol-like representatives of humanity, which we sometimes refer to as "experts", can determine, know, and tell us a safe black-and-white judgement of the value of a supposed resolution of concerns about any anxiety producing issue. True "science" is an open-ended discovery of, exploration into, and theoretical short-term guess as to the importance and meaning of perceived and observed interactions and outcomes. The responsible use of science mandates that we humans cannot play gods and command reality to stand still and does not support our proud and immature projections that we can know an anxiety abolishing principle of truth on which we can heap all manner of excuses for actions which too often prove more destructive than constructive. The conclusions of ALL experiments are truly "suggestions" or theories, and not facts.

Secondly, there is a common belief across our "civilization" that statements which are confident and simple, or, complex and technical ... are authoritative. This attitude fails the spiritual imperative of "Relevancy" which opens the mind to accuracy dependent upon the variable of the realities of time, resources, interactions, space-location, and, personal experience. The result can be an assessment which declares that a substance, Chromium, can be a health benefit, or a health destroyer, depending upon the individuals current body composition, the heredity factors in their genome, their nutritional and activity realities, and, the duration of one's exposure in terms of Quantity and Quality of a supplement.

Thirdly, in order to reinforce and bolster the pseudo-science attitude and the authoritarian practice, we confine our investigations to the unnatural academic and laboratory reductions of reality into separated entities. We take a composite reality of physical states and biochemical combinations interacting within a changing environment and confine our reductionist use of rationalization into the study of ONE factor or ingredient at a time. By focusing on the individual trees in a forest, we miss the ecology dynamics which determine the health of the forest as a whole. We exclude, bypass and blind ourselves to the oft-real presence of multiple ingredients in a structure of relevant proportions as the recipe for an optimum cake. Instead, we focus on whether the addition of a single ingredient, for example baking soda, through a range of acceptable proportions ... will effect an optimal dessert.

No consideration is entertained as to the other ingredients we or others have used, or, the possible variability of relevant quantities of them. Chromium can be a benefit to human health when it addresses a shortage to a balance. Yet, in combination with other substances, for example heavy metals ... which may enter the equation at other times and from other sources ... can reliably result in genetic modifications which may resolve into a cancer, tissue degradations, and other dis-eases. The low absorbance and high excretion indicators of ANY substance often significantly depend upon whether the ingredient is subject to combine with other substances and whether that product is more likely to be stored in the body, or, metabolized, or, excreted. Chromium is known to combine with heavy metals and other toxins ... which themselves tend to be stored in the body.

Fourthly, and not necessarily lastly to these considerations, in our frequently hyper-consciousness, we project our insecurities in the form of abandonment fear and penalty avoidance as norms in the structure of, reporting of, and enslavement to a relatively rigid form of sanction and publication. It has been demonstrated for almost a century that if we conduct our laboratory experiments in a style acceptable to our manager or employer, and, that we state our findings and conclusions in a manner that reinforces the expectations of previous reports, and, that we "explain" our conclusions in either an easy-for-everyone language, or, in a too-technical-for-most justification ... we will more often receive accolades than the conflict of criticism. By following, slave-like, the accepted norms/protocols of action, and, dutifully accepting the editorial realignments imposed by our peers and publishers ... we can often elude the penalties of loss of professional stature, discontinued employment, financial instability, and peer rejection which can greatly impact our social (and often, personal) identity.

These imprinted and implied forces often result in truly scientific additions to wisdom being minimized into duplications of someone's academic generalizations, or, a battery of predictable projections of imaginative, not innovative, rationalizations. It has been reported for many decades that Chromium can effectively induce genetic changes, yet, I have not uncovered even ONE article or report which shares HOW such a change would present or be recognized.

Insight: Personal Experience & Revelation. INDEX

After completing significant heavy metal and other detoxing, I suddenly, within hours or a few days, acquired a new-to-me symptom which I have never been able to find any reference to in digital health and medical resources: callousing of the heel and outside rear sides of the feet. I had discovered through the use of foot detoxing pads years previously, that the body can excrete significant toxins through the soles of the feet. Although I never experienced significant changes in the sole skin during that time, I did now.

The skin on my heels and the outside rear of the foot became very thick and hard to the point of cracking.
The cracking hard skin resulted in many jagged edges of thick skin. I later was best to recognize that exposure to the air, for hours not days, directly or through socks, allowed these jagged edges become very hard, irritating, and, eventually encourage fissuring of the skin. I found myself compulsively drawn to "smooth" these areas out, usually once or twice daily, when the areas became most prominent. It was as if my Reptilian Structure brain had learned from previous detoxing protocols that some toxins, including one or more of the present, could best be excreted in this area.

As I did not have, did not have access to, and was not using these detox pads currently ... it was sending the toxins to these areas ... but there was no medium there to receive them. So, the skin in these areas became clogged with this toxin excretion and adapted by becoming thicker and thicker, and, harder and harder. Eventually, this combination of thick and hard, in an area of frequent flexing (walking) resulted in skin cracking. The cracks were deep, sometimes to the flesh (sore), and the layer was thick. A daily application of bandage covering, after washing and smooting, excluded the air and prevented the drying, but, collected a damp residue which bean to smell like rotting skin by the later-that-day washing.

I experienced a compulsive need to remove this daily renewed "cap" of skin, as if I was removing a piece of dirt, insect, or other aggravant from my skin. With my fingernails, or sometimes with scissors or tweezers or sandpaper .. I would pry up these broken edges and do my best to strip away the unnatural thick cover of skin in an effort to leave a remaining smooth covering. Always, by the end of my efforts, the nerves in these areas made my skin feel raw ... even though it was of a healthy color and was intact and largely smooth. Almost always it became necessary for me to add bandages over these areas so that the pressure on these areas of standing and walking did not result in great pain and limping. When I laid down, and especially if I was laying down with my knees bent and my soles flat on the ground ... the soles of my feet felt both very HOT and raw sore, until I left a series of detoxing protocols and followed a largely water only diet for more than a week. Once the protocols were restarted, the symptom reappeared. Eventually, even stopping detoxing protocols did not result in the symptom lessening. Yet, there was no skin discoloration or blemishes to account for the irritation, and the odour and appearance were not that of either a fungal or bacterial infection.

I had not yet been able to complete this monograph, when in early February, 2018, after experiencing delays for 6 weeks in obtaining and adding Taurine to my detoxing, I discovered, with the usual generosity of Prayer, that the "problem" was Chromium. I had been much earlier assessed by a Minerals Analysis Test as having HIGH levels of Chromium along with many heavy metals and Copper. I had learned that the HIGH level of Copper had mediated the highly destructive influences of the heavy metals. It now became apparent that the HIGH level of Chromium had also provided a similar symptom buffering. Either of the HIGH level of Copper or of Chromium by themselves would have likely been fatal for most humans. The same was true of the HIGH levels of Lead, Mercury, Aluminum, Uranium that were confirmed with the tests. A HIGH level of Gadolinium was also contributing to the skin thickening response with the Chromium. Without the Copper and Chromium offsets, either, or a combination of high level heavy metals would also have been fatal for most humans.

Chromium can be accumulated in one's body by its combining with heavy metal or other toxins.
I became aware of this while completing this monograph. I had taken, likely 1 bottle, of the supplement Chromium Picolinate during the late 1990's ... almost 20 years before. I had detoxed from HIGH Mercury toxicity both before and after that time. Concealed dental mercury amalgam under gold crowns was not revealed until 2005, after which I detoxed severely again. Gadolinium had been injected into me and retained from an MRI by 2006, and, is almost impossible to detox. From 2007 to 2017 significant amounts of Aluminum, Lead, Mercury, Uranium, Copper, Calcium, and Bismuth had accumulated into my body from filtered groundwater, fresh and dried organic foods, some processed foods, and, a minimum of supplements. Chromium from the early supplement had likely combined with the Mercury, and possibly some GMO and virus-exposed tissues to reach the more recent HIGH.

Characteristics of my personal body dynamics likely also contributed to both the retention of toxins in my body as well as their concentrations. Born with and experiencing chronic LOW blood pressure throughout my life, it became a health benefit for me to continuously ADD salt to my diet (to bring me closer to Normal blood pressure levels) ... which would induce a degree of edemic water and toxin storage. The symptoms of the various toxin accumulations would also encourage me to exercise less and drink less than was earlier normal for me, and, to sleep less and mentally focus and work for longer periods than earlier in life.

These changes would also subtly decrease possible more regular and normal metabolic and excretion detoxing.
The combination of both the physically stimulating and depressing and storing symptoms associated with the differing toxins also enabled me to continue being active when a person with only one or two of the toxins in as HIGH a presence would have experienced more acute symptoms and health difficulties which are typically very debilitating, or, fatal. Chromium was retained and built in presence because it had other compounds which would combine with it, and, a body chemistry dynamic which would pack it away into cells, largely in bone, rather than leave it potentially active in body fluids such as blood.

In summary, toxic levels of minerals and chemicals can offset one another.
This dynamic will modify the resulting symptoms such that they will conceal the symptoms associated with HIGH level presence of individual toxins. This concealment can also include the anesthetization of pain, both directly and by a temporary nerve desensitization effect of some nerve responses. I had maintained a diet for the previous 6 years that had been closely monitored and periodically changed, also with subtle small daily modifications ... and without any supplements, for 6 years. I had access only to what was available in the region I lived in and to what could be afforded on minimum finances. My Spiritually Guided diet and daily health enhancing activities had nutritionally enabled me to BALANCE the toxin intake from my environment, my previous work exposures, my current (largely imported) food supply, and my "municipal" and "filtered" water supplies ... for as long as possible ... before a massive detoxing could be afforded and arranged.

Very little is known about Chromium toxicity or its detoxing at this point (2018-05).
You either die from it, are not diagnosed as having it and die from it, or, have a minimum exposure and an unencumbered physical system which dynamically excretes it in the near term. This is another possible addition to understanding what a Chromium toxicity can be and how one may detox it. NO doctor or health practitioner in either of TWO Canadian provincial health care systems determined that I had ANY of these toxicities. When I, following my Prayers, ran the tests, at personal cost, they were made evident to me. Even then, the best "accepted" detoxing options offered by a few practitioners and resources suggested periods of detoxing ranging up to as long as 6 years on as few as ONE of TEN high levels of toxicity. Some indications were that the specific toxin could be lessened, but, never remedied. And, the reality has been that significantly detoxing only one or several of these at a time would likely have resulted in the then disproportionate influence of one or other toxins resulting in a worsening of already critically bad health.

These enhancements of discernment again present how the commonly educated and culturally assumed concept of Cause and Effect, relative to Influences and Outcomes, presents a Black-and-White oversimplified, authoritarian, often irrelevant, and often destructive examination of and understanding and treatment of Health, and, LIFE. Work with God and you will have the best health possible with your resources in an environment which we humans have so thoroughly contaminated with toxins and diminished of quality nutrition.

Articles on the Internet are transitory.
The publishers may remove them, change sites, change URLs, or change titles.
For the purpose of maintaining an availability of these articles for myself and you, I have reprinted parts in the relevant monographs with authorship maintained, coding simplified for error-free loading and minimal file size, and a LINK to the original document. Identity trackers and advertising bots have been removed from the original bloated and manipulative coding. NOTHING in writing is absolute; don't treat human opinion, projection, and observation as an Idol. Doing so can kill you, or worse, have you impose abuse on others.

I gathered and researched this data, mediated with the Grace of God through prayer as a benefit in my integrating discovered available digital information which would acquaint me with the overall content related to the health issues. I have found that God is ALWAYS available when we are Reverent in our Asking, open-minded in our Listening, and, Assertive in our Choice of Action. Doctors did not expect me to survive birth. In the past 25 years, medical and health "experts" have cautioned or directed me, more than 14 times, that I had little time left to live, or would die ... because THEY did not understand my challenges, were not motivated to professionally diagnose, or, chose to superstitiously recall as absolute previously flawed training. I am still alive beyond age 70. With the assistance of God, my Personality, the research and a lack of dismissiveness of a number of persons ... I have found resolution to numerous health challenges. This has enabled me to assist many others who had been abandoned, brainwashed, or traumatized. May my experience and successes also empower you. This is one document which you may find helpful as a BASIC introduction to maintaining and improving YOUR health.
