Too much of either leads to death; air = embolism; water = drowning.
Too little of either leads to death; air = suffocation; water = dehydration.

The term “probiotic” comes from Greek pro and bios meaning “prolife” (Gismondo et al., 1999).
Elie Metchnikoff’s work at the beginning of this century is regarded as the first research conducted on probiotics (Fuller, 1989). He defined a probiotic as “a live microbial feed supplement which beneficially affects the host animal by improving its intestinal balance”. This definition is still widely referred to.
However, the term probiotic was introduced by Lilly and Stillwell, as a modification of the original word “probiotika.”
It was used to describe substances produced by a microorganism that prolong the logarithmic growth phase in other species. Later, Sperti (2006) modified the concept of “tissue extracts that stimulate microbial growth”.
The term "probiotic" means "in favor of life". It was coined in 1910, by a Russian physician named Metchnikoff, who promoted a theory of longevity that associated prolonged life and improved health with decreased gastrointestinal toxicity. He suggested that aging is a process mediated by chronic exposure to putrefactive intoxication caused by imbalances in intestinal bacteria and that this process could be halted by the routine ingestion of lactic acid bacteria and their "fermented" ("cultured") food products.
Rather than being confined to a particular organ, about 80 percent of your immune system resides in your gastrointestinal tract in the form of receptor cells. Because of this prime location, what happens in your gut can powerfully influence your immune function.
When your gut is healthy, you have a large, thriving population of beneficial or friendly bacteria, or probiotics, supporting your immune system receptor cells. They help form a protective barrier within your colon and intestines. Optimizing and supporting the beneficial bacteria in your gut is one of the most powerful things you can do for your health and well being, including your immune health.

Relevancy is what sets safety and effectiveness apart from laboratory findings and the authoritarian efficiency of bureaucratic application.
There are a number of elements which have come to my attention in the consideration of the use of Probiotics.
These factors often also apply to the use of many other supplements and foods for personal health improvement, re-activation, and, stabilization in addition to maintaining health balance in situations of challenge when a person is exposed to or experiencing physical, emotional, or environmental significant change that includes weakening and destructive influences. A failure to consider and integrate these, either from ignorance, lack of experience, laziness, denial, routine, or, professionalism ... will result in sub-optimum outcomes which can include a worsening of health ... and possibly even fatality.

Blood Type.
NOTES Index
Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo has furthered earlier research into the association between one's blood type and the foods which one can most easily metabolize and assimilate the most nutrients from. Perhaps because of the intensive and personalized nature of the application of these principles and the necessity for patient awareness and involvement in their own health ... the medical and technician oriented healthcare community downplay this reality as a "fad". While imperfect as a "one size fits all" healthcare approach, the principles have been expanded upon as research continues. Those for whom the principles apply have found dramatic beneficial metabolic changes. Early findings were found to only apply dependably to 50% of patients. Later, more definitive and complex findings and presentation may now apply to more than 80% of the North American population. Considering that the seldom provided and seldom available nutritional counselling by North American doctors is only beneficially relevant to patients 12% of the time, perhaps doctors would benefit their patients more if they were a little more humble and knowledgeable.
The "Eat Right for Your Type" approach connects the genetic biology of the individual to their capability to assimilate nutrients from specific foods. More specifically, it presents the potential for the blood type of an individual providing an optimum environment for the presence of specific probiotic bacteria and fungi. This indicates that there may be specific probiotics which are friendlier (remain present and proliferate) in some metabolic tissue pH environments than in others. Thus, a single or combination probiotic supplement may be optimum for yourself yet not for others in your family or for some of the larger population. Utilizing a probiotic that is pathogenic to your blood type genetic surrounding may diminish the benefits of other probiotics you may be ingesting, or, may actually present a health disadvantage. Being aware of this can both encourage your personalized selection of probiotics as well as offer an understanding of why some probiotic strains and formulas provide no benefit for you, yet may be significantly beneficial for others. It isn't that the marketing is wrong so much as the marketing is irrelevant by not being specific enough in its limitations.
-
Toxicities.
NOTES Index
The presence of substances which significantly alter the normal and health activities of organics, including digestive flora, produce compensating modifications in those lifeforms. These compensations often include genetic modifications which can turn normally beneficial and omnipresent bacteria, such as Candida, into highly destructive and destabilizing bacteria, such as Candida Albicans. Heavy metals (such as aluminum, lead, mercury, bismuth, arsenic), and some other normally beneficial minerals (such as iron, copper, manganese) in toxic concentrations will genetically modify neighboring fungi, bacteria, viruses, and other parasites, and can genetically modify organ tissue cells.
These changes can modify organ function. Reversing these destructive changes is almost impossible and destroying or eliminating these now pathogenic organisms and unhealthy tissues is often difficult, lengthy, and can become life threatening. If one is know to possess one or a multiple of heavy metal and other toxicities, it would be safer to AVOID probiotics until one has detoxed the genetic modifiers as much as possible. Probiotics can strengthen a healthy biome, yet, may contribute to the unhealthfulness of a highly contaminated one.
-
Dis-eases.
NOTES Index
If one already has a known and significant disease, taking probiotics may worsen the intensity of the current illness(es) or, the nature of the illness may either diminish or destroy any positive influence from the probiotics, or, may result in the genetic modification of one or more probiotics into pathogens. There is almost or no research available which has tested this possibility for any definitive concerns. First, such a study would include a consideration of a wide number of factors including which one or more probiotics were being introduced, which one or more illnesses are already present, what is the relative degree of intensity, spread, and location of the current illnesses, what are the dosages taken of the probiotics being studied, what is the duration of the test, and, what are the duration periods at which the biological ecology is tested to determine what changes have occurred, and, which is their extent.
I personally found my health in challenge by a significant Aspergillosis presence, likely of the "ball" form, which could be influenced by the introduction of one or more probiotics. These influences could be either constructive or destructive relative to each probiotic administered and its strength/dosage. Throughout most of my strong DETOX cycles I was not Spiritually Guided to use probiotics, especially in the earlier stages of high toxic biological background. Aspergillosis outbreaks were not coincident with the taking of probiotics, nor was the diminished presence of the Aspergillosis. A more liberal and careless use of probiotics might have stressed the Aspergillosis to mutate into either a more toxic or less toxic form, or, may have stressed one or more of the probiotics to mute into a more pathogenic or less pathogenic variety. About 10 years previous, I had encountered a systemic onslaught of Candidiasis from which I had fully recovered some years earlier. I did NOT have any indication of Candidiasis at present. Probiotics had not been part of my recovery protocol from that fungal illness.
There will be other forms and intensities of illness which may also either present a challenge to one or more probiotics, or, who may, one or more, be influenced to become pathogenic from their being stressed by the disease organisms.
-
Schedule.
NOTES Index
Many probiotic packages instruct the user to take probiotics at least 30 minutes before food or snacks.
Others suggest taking the probiotics with target foods. Many will caution the taking of probiotics near to one's participation in activities or in drinking or eating factors and substances known to be antagonistic to probiotic health. These include states of tiredness form lack of adequate sleep, overwork, or strength-building. Cigarette smoking, drinking of alcoholic beverages, eating curried foods, and feeling depressed are other considerations. In addition, while many persons follow ritual-like eating times, commercial cultures and multiple sources of income and employment have tended to result in eating times which vary day-to-day. The more erratic an eating schedule becomes, the more difficult it will be for one to delay their "lunch" time until 30 minutes after taking a probiotic.
Clearly, taking a probiotic at a time when other activities and digestive processes are going to minimize or defeat the possible health benefit is not either an efficient or effective strategy. Yet, NOT taking one's probiotic supplements in a consistent and regular manner may equally diminish or eradicate any health benefits. Still, there is a possibility in all of this timing and change that PULSED probiotic use may prove to be MORE influential than a ritualized dosage. Certainly, we know that a Pulsed dosage of antibiotics can be both safer, more economical, and much more effective than a routine and regular dosage for some persons, and especially for treatment of chronic illnesses. This may also be true and relevant for some individuals with some illnesses, though unlikely for most, or, for all illnesses.
-
Quantity.
NOTES Index
There is a threshold with most substances as to how much of it can be a benefit to an organism and how much makes it toxic.
Too much water and one drowns or is threatened by massive edema or flushed out nutrients. Too little water and one becomes dehydrated, auto-toxified by their unexcreted waste, and cell walls lose their permanence and elasticity. Similar parallels can be drawn for air, oxygen, heat. The same is true for many minerals with the thresholds for heavy metals and radioactive minerals being much lower and specific than those for essential minerals, amino acids, and, vitamins. So it is not surprising that there is a benefit/toxicity threshold for both individual and composite probiotics that is relevant for both a species in general and for individuals in particular.
A difficulty that arises for human individuals in our present history (2018) is that we have made our living environment exceptionally complicated, demanding, and polluted compared to that of a hunter gatherer of only 7,000 years ago. In North America and Europe, even though we have reduced the obvious visual in-your-face pollution of sooty air particulate, color and smell tainted water, and street litter since the 1970s, we have continued to add thousands of industrial and agricultural chemicals to our environment annually. These are perceptively more subtle. They enter our foodstuffs, water supply, metropolitan air, vehicle interiors, clothing and plastic containers. Their silent and colorless outgasing sifts into our lungs, enters our blood, and is deposited throughout our body and its organs with a portion being excreted, until our liver, lymph, and kidneys become too tired or congested to auto-detox without help. To these sources we have add biological contaminants in the form of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) including foodstuffs ... capable of effecting genetic modification of organisms under challenge stress ... such as ourselves.
These developments continue to make the safe and beneficial use of nutritional supplements increasingly difficult.
Every individual's body is in a constant state of change regarding the level of pollutants and toxins they have been exposed to cumulatively throughout their life in addition to their exposure in the past 24 hours. The basic required calculation is how much of what has been stockpiled in the body and does its present attract, restrict, or not influence the degree to which other toxins are being absorbed from one's surroundings and foods. These realities slip over into the minute-by-minute determination of how much or which probiotics is best for a particular individual. While hair and urine analyses can provide periodic reflections of the broad strokes, I know of only two dependable sources of feedback: professional quality acquisition of Spiritual Guidance and muscle testing. Most people have no access or interest in either of these modalities so choosing a safe and beneficial quantity of probiotics on a daily basis is, in reality, little better than a guess, or, a superstitious association.
-
Mixtures.
NOTES Index
When we put ingredients together their influence may be synergized and multiplied, or diminished, or negated, or become independently expressed. A simplistic and common expectation is that we will obtain the benefits of each ingredient as if we had taken them apart and separate. This is rarely the reality. In addition, the state of one's biological system at the time the mixture is taken can also influence how the body reacts or responds to the mixture. What may be a significant benefit to one person at a particular time of health duress or recovery may be fatal to another person who is experiencing a different form of health duress or recovery. As individuals with personal experiences we may also develop sensitivities (over-reactions) to any ingestible substance if we have a past traumatic experience while being exposed to it. You may have a health distress reaction to a vegetable or fruit which most other people find pleasurable and health enhancing, until and unless you can release the Energy Block association which your Reptilian Structure has generated in an effort to protect you from future traumas that are perceived to be similar to the original experience of urgency.
Mixtures ARE important in both regaining and maintaining one's health.
For optimum benefits it may be best for us to take a large number of supplements on a daily basis for a time.
It will be impossible for us to spread out our taking these in such that our bodies can respond to them individually if we are to effect any form of personal, social, or occupational activity. It may even be best for us to take in specific multiples and strengths of supplements so as to benefit both efficiently and effectively. There is no authoritarian specialist dogma, rule or practice that is accurate and relevant for both personal requirements on a day-by-day schedule or a longer-term one. You elect to either risk taking inadequate or toxic mixtures and quantities of supplements, taking healthcare worker superstition directed protocols, or, choosing the no-risk options of checking on a daily basis by way of using Muscle Testing, or asking of Spiritual Guidance. Not many persons have the patience, perseverance, motivation, or self-directedness to develop either of the latter skills. What is left that is safe is to err on the side of taking fewer mixtures for much longer than optimum periods to retain or recover the level of health that is attainable for us.
-
Sources.
NOTES Index
BRANDS names, manufacturing locations and LOT numbers can be significant to the effectiveness, toxicity, and overall safety of the use of probiotics as well as other nutritional and hormone supplements. This degree of testing, reporting, and awareness is largely absent in the market. You can only be assured of a product's relevancy and safety for YOU by using professional (acquired, experienced, perfected, consistent, accurate) muscle testing or Spiritual Guidance. Anything else is mere superstition based upon often deceptive, manipulative, or irrelevant marketing claims and/or generalized, authoritarian, suggestive associations stated in articles and poorly concluded research efforts. The quality of a Source can change between production LOTS, even with LOTS, and will change within Brands as the manufacturer changes their raw material providers and/or changes their formula for either a Cost savings, or, a decided improvement in optimization of benefits. What was BEST previously, may not be best NOW. This does present difficulties when one's major access point is via the Internet rather than in person at a retail outlet.
-
Mutability.
NOTES Index
What is the likelihood that a probiotic will be genetically modified by the internal environment it is entering, or, that it will modify some other biological form by its entry there, or, both? No research has been conducted towards determining this. Perhaps because the number of variables involved are both personal and changeable ... making any finding highly individual and incapable of broad application. It is known that probiotics WILL interact with and possibly modify the genetic structure of other biologicals, and, that their genetic structure CAN be modified by their interaction with other biologicals (including GMO foods and GMO contaminated supplements) as well as specific and multiple toxin presence.
-
Longevity.
NOTES Index
How long does one use a probiotic?
This will depend upon the type of probiotic, its strength, the dosage one takes, the responsiveness of one's system, and, the intensity of requirement. I have found the optimum duration of taking a probiotic to range from 0 events to one or several times per day for 2 weeks, with the usual, for me, being one or several times for one or several days. As noted by the factors, this will be a determination that is relevant for the individual at the particular time it is being assessed.

... Probiotics are often employed to control bacterial pathogens in the aquaculture systems.
Beneficial probiotics (used commercially) include ...
Lactobacillus,
Bifidobacterium,
Streptococcus thermophilus,
Pediococcus,
Streptococcus and Carnobacterium spp.
Bacillus,
Flavobacterium,
Cytophaga,
Pseudomonas,
Alteromonas,
Aeromonas,
Enterococcus,
Nitrosomonas,
Nitrobacter,
Vibrio
... With increasing demand for environment friendly aquaculture, the use of alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters in fish nutrition is now widely accepted. ...
The probiotics in aquaculture, one must be concerned with their indirect effects on ecosystem cycles and food chains.
Although the use of antibiotics and chemotherapy remains the method of choice as disease control strategy, the abuse of chemotherapeutics, especially antibiotics has resulted in development of multiple antibiotic resistant bacteria (Kim et al., 2004; Cabello 2006; Bestha Lakshmi et al., 2013). There is an increasing interest within the industry in the control or elimination of antimicrobial use. Therefore, alternative methods need to be developed to maintain a healthy microbial environment in the larval rearing tanks.
Biological control has been described as the utilization of natural enemies to reduce the damage caused by noxious organisms to tolerable levels. Many years, studies focused on microorganism’s characteristic from intestinal microbiota, and the term “probiotic” was mainly restricted to gram-positive lactic acid bacteria, particularly representative of the genera Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus, and Streptococcus. ...
While using some beneficial probiotic bacteria for fish, some might be highly pathogenic e.g. Vibrio alginolyticus.
It will lead to destructive effect in the aquaculture systems. So, it is necessary to take care of the choice of probiotic before administration. The best known probiotic strains such as Bifidobacteria, Lactobacilli, and Streptococcus thermophilus are employed as the dietary supplementation with probiotic bacteria in the aquaculture industry and it will increase the efficiency and sustainability of aquaculture production (Kim et al., 2007). ...
A clear distinction has to be made between the probiotic function of a bacterium and that of a feed.
Probiotic organisms colonize the digestive tracts of their hosts and out compete potential disease-causing organisms.
There is evidence that probiotics inhibit a wide range of fish pathogens, with a common added benefit of appetite stimulation, which can last longer than the probiotic treatment period (Brunt et al., 2007). Hence, successful application of the principle of competition to natural situation is not easy and this remains as a major task for microbial ecologists (Sahu et al., 2008).
Some Beneficial Effects of Probiotics:
- Reduction of nitrogen compounds,
- Improved water quality,
- Increase oxygenation, and growth rates,
- Reduced chemical oxygen demand;
- Better digestive enzyme activities,
- Compete with other bacteria,
- Increased production of erythrocytes and leukocytes,
- Enhance the cellular and humoral immune responses,
- Enhancement of the disease resistance in animal,
- Improved resistance against ... infection;
- Prevent and resist viral infections,
- Higher growth performance,
- Lower blood glucose levels,
- Higher survival rate ..
- Providing food sources for beneficial microorganisms,
- Inorganic forms of nitrogen, such as ammonia, nitrate and nitrite are also reduced.
The microbial cultures produce a variety of enzymes such as amylase, protease, lipase, xylanase and cellulase in high(er) concentrations than the native bacteria, which help in degrading the waste. These bacteria have a wide range of tolerance for salinity, temperature and pH (Hemaiswarya et al., 2013). ...
By speeding up the rate of organic matter breakdown, free amino acids and glucose are also released, providing food sources for the beneficial microorganisms. Inorganic forms of nitrogen, such as ammonia, nitrate and nitrite are also reduced. Gram-positive genus Bacillus group is more efficient than gram-negative in transforming organic matter to CO2. It is suggested that maintaining high levels of probiotics in production ponds, fish farmers can minimize the accumulation of dissolved and particulate organic carbon during the growing season. In addition, this can balance the production of phytoplankton (Balcázaret et al., 2006). However, published evidence for improving water quality is limited; except for the nitrification (Verschuere, 2000). Methane-reducing bacteria use carbon dioxide as a source of molecular oxygen. Methane diffuses into the air and thereby improves the water quality (sahu et al., 2008) as methane diffuse into the air it causes environmental damage. ...
Some Possible Disadvantages of Probiotics:
- a vector for introducing potentially pathogenic bacteria,
- there is a chance of risk associated with the transmission of resistant bacteria from aquaculture environments to humans,
- probiotics can easily be destroyed by any other chemical or drug which generally interferes with the establishment of useful microbes
- many private industries have promoted their probiotic product without understanding the (ecological) impacts.
Article: How Your Gut Bacteria Can Influence Your Health.
INDEX
https://probiotics.mercola.com/probiotics-health-benefits.html
Date and Author are unspecified.
Some of the most important benefits of probiotics include:
-
Healthy immune function*
Did you know that your intestinal lining, or mucosal barrier, is about the size of a tennis court?
Over 300 square meters in size, that’s a lot of territory for beneficial bacteria to patrol and support health!
Your good bacteria play a vital role in the development and maintenance of this mucosal immune system in your gut.
They compete with the less-friendly microbes for both food and attachment sites on the receptor cells.
As long as you have a healthy amount of good microbes, they’re usually able to prevail.
At home in your gut, your beneficial microbes partner up with your immune cells to help maintain your health in many different ways. Supplementing with probiotics may even help protect against the additional stressors on your immune health involved with strenuous athletic training.
Probiotics also support your normal healthy response to allergens.
Beneficial bacteria train your immune system to distinguish between non-harmful antigens and undesirable antigens, and to respond in a normal, appropriate way.
-
Weight management*
One potential benefit of probiotics that has received much attention lately is the ability of certain strains to help with weight management in people with obese tendencies.
A study on infants found that those who had high numbers of beneficial bifidobacteria appeared to have an increased level of protection from excess weight gain. Bifidobacteria flourishes in the guts of breast-fed babies, which may be one reason why breast-fed babies have a lower risk of becoming obese.
Additionally, researchers are learning that obese people’s gut microbes differ from those of lean people.
Lean individuals tend to have higher amounts of various healthy bacteria. In a study with mice, when certain microbes were transplanted into normal-weight mice, those mice started to gain twice as much fat.
Increasingly, research confirms that probiotics play a key role in weight management.
One human study showed how obese individuals reduced their abdominal fat by consuming a probiotic-rich fermented beverage for a 12-week period.
If you’re struggling to manage your weight, I suggest you take full advantage of the potential benefits of probiotics!
-
Digesting and absorbing carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, and waste removal*
Your body needs beneficial gut bacteria to absorb certain undigested starches, fiber, and sugars in foods.
When you have a good balance of bacteria, you can efficiently convert these carbohydrates into valuable sources of nutrients and energy.
Another important benefit of probiotics is for your body’s production of vitamin K and B vitamins.
Probiotics also promote mineral absorption from the foods you eat. Equally valuable is their ability to help metabolize and break down body wastes.
-
Psychological and emotional health support*
Many people are also surprised to learn that their guts are essentially their second brains.
Proof of this can be found in the fact that your gut produces more of the mood-influencing neurotransmitter serotonin than your brain does.
Studies show probiotics can benefit the communications within your gut-brain axis.
You have two nervous systems, one in your brain and spinal cord, and another in your gastrointestinal tract. Made from the same type of tissue, they are connected to each other via your vagus nerve, which is the primary route for information sharing between your gut and your brain.
Because of this profound interrelationship, whenever you’re dealing with any type of learning disability or neurological or psychiatric concern, I suggest you look closely at your gut health. Sometimes, supporting your emotional and psychological health can be as simple as healing and sealing your gut lining.
Your diet is indeed linked to your mental health!
-
Skin health support*
Considering there are about 100 trillion microorganisms living on and in your body, it’s difficult to separate the ones living within and on the surface. Research suggests the two may be closely related, as your body is a living ecosystem.
There’s no doubt in my mind that probiotics benefit your skin health, and especially the skin health of children.
Skin issues, particularly those commonly seen in infants, are thought to be due to a delay in the development of immune function.
This, in my opinion, confirms the importance for women who plan to become pregnant, along with pregnant mothers and infants, to receive a supplemental probiotic supplement.
For moms-to-be who supplement with probiotics during pregnancy, there’s an added bonus.
A study suggests that taking a probiotic supplement during the first trimester of pregnancy through the end of exclusive breastfeeding may help you lose weight after your baby’s arrival. This is in addition to the multitude of probiotic benefits for your newborn as well!
The most ideal way to get the probiotics you need each day is to eat fermented vegetables that you prepare at home or to consume other traditionally fermented foods rich in probiotic bacteria. Some of the best sources include lassi, an Indian yogurt drink, kefir and yogurt made from raw milk, or natto or fermented soy.
Make sure your choices are unpasteurized as the high-heat process destroys many if not all of the naturally occurring probiotics.

Dr. Shekhar K. Challa, a gastroenterologist and the author of Probiotics For Dummies tells The Huffington Post.
"Unfortunately it is impossible to quantitate the CFU's of probiotics in most food products."
CFUs -- or colony-forming units -- is a microbiological term that describes the density of viable bacteria in a product.
In other words, the CFU tells you how rich in probiotics a food actually is -- and how much will be available to your body.
Dr. Challa recommends the following Unpasteurized Probiotic Rich Foods
Plain unflavored yogurt
Kefir
Sauerkraut
Miso
Pickles
Tempeh
Kimchi and
Kombucha tea

Digestive Health
Each of us has more than 1,000 different types of bacteria that live in our digestive tracts, helping us to break down food and absorb nutrients. But when we take antibiotics -- medicine that is designed to kill destructive, illness-causing bacteria -- the drugs can also kill the healthy intestinal flora that helps us digest. About 30 percent of the patients who take antibiotics report suffering from diarrhea or some other form of gastrointestinal distress, according to the recent JAMA study on probiotics and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. As a result, doctors commonly prescribe taking probiotics to "repopulate" the digestive tract with healthful bacteria. The study found that it was a viable solution for many.
But probiotics can also help with other types of digestive issues.
Research has shown that probiotics can be helpful for people with irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS -- a hard-to-treat condition that can have a range of intestinal symptoms, such as abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, diarrhea and constipation.
-
Urinary Health
Probiotics make a nice compliment to antibiotics among people who suffer from urinary tract infections, according to the research. What's more, there's emerging evidence that regular probiotics can help prevent bad bacteria from invading the urinary tract by maintaining a population of healthy bacteria on the tract's adherence sites. Infections of the urinary tract are extremely common, especially in women. Most infections disappear with antibiotics, but about 30 to 40 percent might return, according to literature from the University of Maryland Medical Center.
-
Allergies
... a relationship between women taking probiotics during pregnancy and a 30 percent reduction in the instance of childhood eczema (an early sign of allergies) in their infants. ...
-
Women's Health
Just like the digestive tract, the vagina relies on a precarious balance of good and bad bacteria.
When that balance is off, it can result in one of two very common, though thoroughly uncomfortable infections: bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. In fact, bacterial vaginosis can actually lead to a yeast infection.
... L. acidophilius can help prevent infection, manage an already active one or support antibiotics as a treatment, though it's worth noting that the probiotics were taken as vaginal suppositories, rather than orally in food. Probiotics may also have a special role in maternal health, as pregnant women are particularly susceptible to vaginal infections. And bacterial vaginosis has been indicated as a contributing factor to pre-term labor, making probiotics a potential boon for fetal health.
-
Immunity
... By eating probiotic-rich foods and maintaining good intestinal flora, a person can also help to maintain a healthy immune system.
... those who were given a fermented dairy drink (instead of milk) displayed increased production from lymphocytes -- a marker of immune response.
-
Obesity
In 2006, Stanford University researchers found that obese people had different gut bacteria than normal-weighted people -- a first indication that gut flora plays a role in overall weight. Some preliminary research shows that probiotics can help obese people who have received weight loss surgery to maintain weight loss. And in a study of post-partum women who were trying to lose abdominal fat, the addition of lactobacillus and bifidobacterium capsules helped reduce waist circumference. ...

As published in:
2010 -- The Clinical Use of Probiotics.
Editor: Ed Barlow J.
There are over 500 different species of microorganisms residing in the GI tract.
When antibiotics are administered, a proportion of the beneficial microorganisms resident in the gut become disrupted.
The consequent reduction in colonisation and disease resistance is manifested by an increased vulnerability to pathogenic bacteria colonisation of
the gut, which leads to dysbiosis and often an increased risk of developing an intestinal infection; the main symptom being diarrhoea.
The World Health Organisation defines antibiotic-associated diarrhoea (AAD) as three or more abnormally loose bowel movements per 24 hours while on antibiotics. Antibiotics that act on anaerobes, such as aminopenicillins, cephalosporins and clindamycins, are most associated with
diarrhoea.
Twenty percent of people who take a course of antibiotics suffer from diarrhoea.
As well as being an unpleasant side effect, it can in some cases, lead to chronic or persistent diarrhoea.
It is estimated that 25% of cases of AAD are caused by Clostridium difficile.
Infection with this pathogen can lead to colitis and is a common complication of antibiotic therapy becoming increasingly prevalent in hospital inpatients, particularly the elderly. The incidence of diarrhoea in children receiving broad spectrum antibiotics has been reported in the range of 11-
40% . Young children (under three years of age) are more susceptible to clinical consequences of infectious diarrhoea and may have the most to gain from probiotic treatment.
Probiotics, known widely as beneficial bacteria and yeasts, assist in restoring the normal population levels of beneficial microorganisms in the GI tract. This is one of the principle indications for their use in both human and veterinary medicine. Whilst the restoration of the gut microflora, when antibiotic therapy has finished, is an obvious application for probiotics, there is also scientific support for the administration of probiotics alongside antibiotic treatment. In recent human research, studies have looked at the role of probiotics in augmenting the use of antibiotics in the management of various infections (for example C. difficile) and also in the prevention of AAD.
The mechanisms of action have been studied and one method is thought to be due to the probiotic bacteria interfering with the invasion and adhesion of pathogens. In addition to stopping bacteria infecting cells already exposed, probiotic bacteria may help to protect the gut epithelium from further invasion. Lactobacillus rhamnosus has been shown to have beneficial effects on intestinal immunity, by increasing the numbers of cells that secrete immunoglobulins in the intestinal mucosa and stimulating the local release of interferon. L. rhamnosus has also been shown to produce an antimicrobial substance that inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli, Streptococci.spp, C. difficile, Bacteroides fragilis
and Salmonella spp.
To summarise the following mechanisms of action have been documented for probiotics:
-
Immunomodulation
- Increases the number of intestinal mucosa cells secreting immunoglobulins
- Facilitates antigen transport to underlying lymphoid cells ensuring a faster immune reaction to disease causing bacteria.
-
Antibacterial action
- Production of antibacterial substances (such as bacteriocins)
- Action against common pathogens including E. coli, C. difficile and Salmonella.spp.
-
Competitive Exclusion
- Good adhesion to the gut wall, preventing pathogens binding
- Colonisation of the gut with beneficial bacteria.
Johnston and team undertook a review of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of probiotics in children taking antibiotics. The probiotics were co-administered with the antibiotics, and the review examined whether the probiotics prevented the development of AAD. Ten RCTs were identified, involving a total of 1,986 children. Six of the ten RCTs used lactic acid bacteria probiotics. The review found an average risk reduction of 51% (against placebo).
Probiotics have been shown to prevent C. difficile infection after the use of antibiotics.
The probiotic strain L. rhamnosus has been used in the prevention of relapsing C. difficile diarrhoea, associated with antibiotic use. In a trial, elderly patients receiving antibiotics were also given either a placebo or a probiotic containing Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Stool samples from all patients were analysed for C. difficle toxins, which were found in 78% of the control group and 46% of the probiotic group. This means that the probiotic was reducing the pathogen numbers and the production of toxins. It is these toxins which cause inflammation within the gut, leading to colitis.
It is also worth remembering that with various GI tract disorders, the immune system plays a central role in pathogenesis of many of these disorders, as does the enteric microflora. In fact the importance of the GI tract’s immune function becomes more apparent when we consider that 70% of the body’s immune cells reside in the gut.
Conclusion
The use of probiotics in conjunction with antibiotics, will act to reduce the effects of the dysbiosis caused by the antibiotics, and maximise the benefits of the probiotic directly in the gut on competitive exclusion and immune stimulation. It is advisable however to stagger the
administration of the antibiotic and probiotic such that the probiotic is administered at least three hours after the antibiotic dose, where possible, otherwise the antibiotic may reduce the efficacy of the probiotic microorganisms. It is important to note that the reverse is not true: probiotics will not cause a reduction in efficacy or effectiveness of the antibiotic. The administration of the probiotic for at least one week following the completion of the antibiotic course.

Probiotics – Boosting Intestinal Absorption and Keeping the Body Free of Parasites.

Taking probiotics allows people to accomplish optimal health by providing them with the nutrients they would normally be getting if they had eaten food derived from nutrient-dense soil. Probiotics are beneficial bacteria, which exist in uncontaminated, nutrient-rich soil and are in charge of providing vegetables and fruits with those nutrients they necessitate. The probiotics are absorbed by plants and become their guardians against destructive invaders. Probiotics maintain plants healthful and loaded with nutritional components as a source of food for individuals. The same thing happens for people when they consume the friendly bacteria as nutritional supplements. These friendly bacteria maintain the intestinal tract in a state of homeostasis (a state of stability or a tendency to reach stability) by boosting intestinal absorption and keeping it free of parasites, molds, yeast and other fungi, destructive bacteria, viruses. Probiotics can turn really aggressive against pathological intruders and have a remarkable capability to engulf and ingest viruses and bacteria.
Probiotics ... reestablish stability to an auto-intoxicated intestinal tract in a precise way.
Upon being consumed, the probiotic will stimulate and bring about gut restoration by fastening themselves to the intestinal mucosa. On the intestinal wall they replicate to create colonies along the course of receptor sites that had previously been established by harmful bacteria and other pathological bacteria. These pathogens (something that can provoke disease) are eaten up by the probiotics so that the indications of illness they had been producing tend to terminate ultimately. The time factor for symptomatic healing is dependent upon the volume of pathogens lodged at the gut’s receptor sites. No matter what the number of bad bacteria or other pathogens, probiotics implant themselves and bring about intestinal health.

Herxheimer reactions result when the body undergoes a large inflammatory response due to a sudden die off of a huge load of microbes when some antimicrobial drug kills them. The microbes break down, and the immune system reacts to the load of antigens it detects with an inflammatory response.
It is similar to sepsis, in which the antigen load comes about from massive infection, but it is of a lesser degree than sepsis.
Probiotics are used to overwhelm and crowd out troublesome microbes that have become established in the gut, or to prevent such a thing from happening during antibiotic therapy.
As they grow in the gut they just shove the bad microbes to the rear and out, with no germ killing necessary, and no antigens reaching the blood stream to cause any reactions.
Comment offered in reply ...
... I always advise such people to start very low with the dose size and work up to larger doses over a period of a fortnight or so. This is not so easily done with capsules ... (easier with) a powder and lends itself to that approach.

Date and Author are unspecified.
No matter how well you eat, or how diligent you are about supplementing with a high-quality probiotic supplement, you must be equally aware of the factors that can put your microflora at risk.
-
You’re taking antibiotics
If you must take an antibiotic, don’t stop taking your probiotic!
Take your probiotic supplement either a few hours before or after your antibiotic, and continue after your antibiotic treatment course for optimal protection.
It’s a well-established fact that antibiotics indiscriminately kill bacteria, both good and bad.
If you take a probiotic at the same time, you can help restore your beneficial microbes faster.
-
You’re using heartburn pills
A recent study shows that if you are taking the widely available over-the-counter or prescription proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for heartburn, you may be putting your gut flora at risk.
-
You eat factory-farmed meats and dairy
Be aware that factory-farmed meats and dairy also contain antibiotics, although in much smaller doses.
About 80 percent of all antibiotics sold in the U.S. are used to fatten and prevent disease in non-organically raised food animals and dairy.
Unless you are buying organic grass-fed meats and dairy, you are likely consuming minute doses of antibiotics with every meal!
In addition to the antibiotics you receive, with factory-farmed meats and diary, you’re also likely to consume traces of pesticides and herbicides, which can also negatively impact your gut flora. Livestock and dairy are typically fed genetically engineered grains.
-
You’re drinking chlorinated or fluoridated water
The chlorine and fluoride that remain in drinking water that is chlorinated or fluoridated harm your beneficial gut bacteria.
-
You’re eating processed and sugary foods and beverages
Sugar and processed foods encourage the growth of undesirable bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract and upset the balance of good-to-bad microbes.
In one study, after 10 days on a fast food diet, a subject’s gut microbes were “devastated.”
Plus, he lost about 40 percent of the diversity of his bacteria species.
Obviously, the less sugar and processed foods you eat, the better. The more you eat, the more probiotics your body needs!

... In many respects, friendly bacteria can be thought of as having "adaptogenic" effects on your immune system.
They appear to modulate the nonspecific immune response differently in healthy and hypersensitive subjects. This is seen as an immuno-stimulatory effect in healthy subjects, and as a down-regulation of immuno-inflammatory responses in hypersensitive subjects. ...
Consumption of lactic acid bacteria, or food cultured or fermented with these friendly microorganisms does extend life in animal experiments and does dramatically reduce a wide range of intestinal metabolites, such as indoles, polyamines, cresols, nitrates/nitrites, and carcinogens which we now know are counterproductive to good health.
Why should probiotics be taken consistently?
Even using strains of friendly bacteria that have a great ability to survive digestion and colonize your digestive tract, there is a tendency for a gradual decline in the quantity of these bacteria over time. This decline is substantially worsened with stress, poor dietary choices, antibiotics and other drugs. In today's world, with all of it's modern pressures, the ability to maintain an optimal intestinal microbial balance is almost always taxed. It has also actually been estimated that we consume 1 million times LESS healthy bacteria in our diet today than are ancient ancestors consumed.
Why do we combine so many strains of good bacteria?
It is simple really. Friendly bacteria work better when more of them are combined together.
There are actually hundreds of strains of bacteria in your digestive system and the friendly bacteria actually operate as a team, promoting the beneficial effects of each other. The term "Synergism" best describes the interrelationship of friendly bacteria. They mutually support each other by producing bacteriocidins and organic acids that they are resistant to, but which decrease pathogenic bacteria. In fact, these bacteriocidins are up to 1000X more active when combined then when they are isolated. But even more importantly, health effects of one strain of friendly bacteria are often not duplicated by other strains. So a more complex mixture, combining more friendly strains of bacteria, translates into more profound long-term health benefits.
What does blood type have to do with friendly bacteria?
Your blood type antigens are actually prominent in your digestive tract and, in about 80% of individuals (secretors), are also prominent in the mucus that lines your digestive tract. Because of this, many of the bacteria in your digestive tract actually use your blood type as a preferred food supply. In fact, blood group specificity is common among intestinal bacteria with almost 1/2 of strains tested showing some blood type A, B, or O specificity. To give you an idea of the magnitude of the blood type influence on intestinal microflora, it has been estimated that someone with blood type B will have up to 50,000X more of some strains of friendly bacteria than either blood type A or O individuals.
In addition, some strains of beneficial bacteria actually can have lectin-like hemagglutinin activity directed against your blood type, so avoiding those is a good idea.

Heal your gut like your ancestors did: 22 benefits of soil-based probiotics.
(This is a Special Review by NaturallyHealthyNews)
https://naturallyhealthynews.com/wp-content/
customcode/bookdownload.php?f=37-PrescriptBiotics.pdf
Here’s what we know to be true about our modern guts today:
- Every gut needs large amounts of friendly bacteria, a.k.a. probiotics, daily to thrive.
The more diverse the bugs, the better.
- Our modern guts have strayed from what our ancestors’ guts once were.
For millennia, people consumed plenty of beneficial soil-born organisms (SBOs) naturally; these good bugs were found in diets that came from the earth, harvested from the organic, chemical-free foods eaten each day.
- Probiotic research began in the mid-to-late 1900s, but it wasn’t until the last 10 years that international researchers made a shocking discovery: All the multitudes of friendly bacteria in our diets have virtually gone missing.
-
We must take extra steps to replace these missing soil-born bacteria, or else our gut health -- and our family’s gut health -- will suffer. Gut health has been unequivocally linked to behavior, mood, immunity, and chronic diseases including cancer.
SBOs (soil-born organisms) are distinctly different from other probiotic pills and yogurts:
-
SBOs are ancient.
These are the same beneficial probiotics our ancestors ate and are what’s missing from our modern diets.
- SBOs are potent.
Soil-born organisms can change metabolism, gut well-being, and whole-body health at multiple levels.
Scientists have only recently begun to explore and prove the complexities of how SBOs strengthen the human gut.
- SBOs are well-studied.
PrescriptBiotics™ has 37 years of research behind it, supporting good gut health in people and pets.
Since the worldwide marketing rights were secured for its unique SBO formulation in 1995, PrescriptBiotics™ manufacturers have maintained their commitment to providing the safest and most effective naturally beneficial probiotic.
- SBOs support the whole body.
With the sheer number of probiotics on the market, contradictions and misinformation are everywhere.
PrescriptBiotics™ is identified by its research-backed ability to sustain the health of the whole body as a “Bio-identical” SBO Probiotics Consortia™.
...
22 reasons to give your gut the soil-based support it’s missing.
PrescriptBiotics™ Bio-Identical SBO Probiotics Consortia™ are:
- Friendly, naturally-occurring, soil-born microorganisms.
- Cultured in their native ancestral plant matter (a natural prebiotic), along with other friendly strains of lactobacillus bacteria.
- Completely chemical, toxin, and GMO-free.
- “Exactly or similarly matched” to the same diverse bacterial species found in nature and in primitive guts thousands of years ago — and hardwired into your gut’s memory.
PrescriptBiotics™ Bio-Identical SBO Probiotics Consortia™ are NOT:
- Isolated friendly strains of bacteria extracted from their natural environment, like other probiotic caps found on the market.
- Individually cultured, many times in a foreign, non-native environment, before being grouped together into a packaged probiotic blend.
- Poorly metabolized because of conventional processing and manufacturing methods.
- Measured by CFUs, or Colony Forming Units, which are often inaccurately reflected on product packaging and have been proven to have little to do with the efficacy or potency of a probiotic.
In other words, you could receive at least 22 proven benefits
when you take a daily soil-based probiotic to bring your gut back into balance.
SBOs:
1. Break down the buildup of dangerous and unnecessary waste materials in the colon.
2. Bond with and flush toxic heavy metals from the system.
3. Halt the formation of the enzymes that produce reactive oxygen species (offering antioxidant protection).
4. Help to support normal immune function in adults and children.
5. Increase nutrient absorption in the intestines.
6. Improve and regulate bowel function.
7. Offer a safe alternative for microbial stimulation for babies.
8. Offer a safe source of probiotics for children.
9. Participate in an intricate signaling and communication network to help direct the body
----- to perform certain functions that it may have forgotten or become sluggish in completing.
10. Positively influence metabolism.
11. Prevent dangerous fungi and bacteria from colonizing the gut.
12. Provide powerful antioxidant activity.
13. Rebalance gut microbiology and support gut restoration.
14. Rebalance colonic pH and help to restore immune health.
15. Reduce and potentially eliminate gas and bloating.
16. Replenish healthy levels of beneficial colonic microflora.
17. Secrete protective compounds to nourish other struggling cells in the body.
18. Stimulate Lactoferrin production as a critical line of defense and immune system modulator.
19. Strengthen immune function.
20. Supply healthy building blocks needed to activate the production of the body’s natural digestive enzymes.
21. Support good health and overall well-being.
22. Trigger natural antibody production to further strengthen the immune system.
Soil-born organisms are potent enough to undo most, if not all,
of the damage incurred by our modern lifestyles, including:
- A processed, inflammatory diet, high in sugar and starchy carbs.
- Antibiotic overuse and abuse.
- Chronic, daily stress.
- Environmental toxin exposure.
- Excess alcohol consumption.
- Lack of exercise.
- Lack of sleep.
-
NSAID and prescription drug use.
No matter how badly your gut has been damaged, or how weak your digestive system has become after years of modern living, there’s still hope. Taking the right probiotic each day makes it possible to replenish dwindling communities of good bacteria in your gut. Going back to the source, going back to basics, going back to where it all began is the best way to care for a gut that is hurting.
It was not too long ago, nearing the close of the 19th century, that the tides turned, and our gut health began to suffer. This was a time when herbicides, pesticides, and other agricultural chemicals were introduced into food processing. The concept of “farm fresh” diminished. Raw fruits and veggies teeming with life-giving organisms were no longer so readily available. The chemicals used to kill off unwanted pests on crops killed off the beneficial soil-born bacteria needed to support our immune and digestive systems too. Chronic gut issues and autoimmune diseases soon became prevalent.
Professor Lee Dexter, a microbiologist who dedicated her life’s work to identifying and cataloging over 600 species of SBOs while
working with the USDA, explained in her published works why soil-born organisms have the advantage:
- Spore probiotics found in soil are a specialized area of bacteria.
- When spore probiotics, like bacillus, are used together with non-spore forming probiotics, like lactobacillus, they form a group.
- Symbiotic bacterial groups in nature are called “consortia.”
- Bacteria consortia are communities of microorganisms, where each microbe benefits from the activity of the others.
- Naturally-occurring consortia have been shown to be stable to transfer and are better able to maintain their functional integrity than a single, isolated microbe or blends of single, isolated species.
- Naturally-occurring consortia create their own protective matrix and grow to reach a beneficial balance between all species in the group.
SBOs can influence the:
1. Buildup of toxins and waste materials in the colon.
SBOs help block waste formation and break down toxins and waste into smaller, harmless molecules that are easy to pass through the digestive system.
2. Growth of harmful bacteria.
SBOs can produce antimicrobial substances or may block pathogenic organisms from clinging to or puncturing the gut wall.
3. Formation of free radicals.
SBOs have strong antioxidant activity and can help to scavenge disease-causing free radicals.
SBOs can also prevent the formation of enzymes that create the harmful free radicals in the first place, reducing the body’s oxidant load.
4. Production of vitamins and antioxidants.
Within their fermentation process, SBOs produce beneficial compounds that the body’s cells, especially those in the liver and the colon, need for nourishment. SBOs naturally manufacture compounds like vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants, bioactive peptides, polysaccharides, and organic acids to change the gut environment and better communicate with the immune system.
PrescriptBiotics™ ... are so unique, so effective, and so different ...
Consider how these friendly organisms are measured, for example.
On the PrescriptBiotics™ label, you won’t find any mention of the CFUs listed on other probiotic capsules.
Remember, choosing a probiotic based on CFUs alone can be misleading:
- The concept was first introduced as one of importance by the World Health Organization and the U.S. FDA in 2002, but manufacturers later found CFU measurements hard to adhere to.
- CFUs, used to show the minimum amount of viable probiotic strains at the end of a product’s shelf life, are often misreported.
- CFU count is printed on product labels as the viable cell count from the manufacture date, likely skewing this number much higher than the actual amount of CFUs a probiotic contains at the time of purchase.
- Professor Dexter also found CFU numbers to be practically irrelevant when measuring a probiotic’s power and effectiveness.
Compare to what research has proven about PrescriptBiotics™ SBO Probiotics Consortia™:
- The SBOs in PrescriptBiotics™ are dormant, intact, and alive when they reach your gut.
- PrescriptBiotics™ contains an infinite number of soil-based bacteria, activated with water or juice to become living organisms when you take a capsule.
- Once awakened, PrescriptBiotics™ SBOs do what they do best in nature -- survive the tough environment of the digestive tract, band together, come to life, and start to multiply.
- The power of PrescriptBiotics™ can’t be assessed using an ambiguous measurement like CFUs.
Because SBOs unite and so rapidly multiply, their effect on each individual gut will be different; the potential for “SBO takeover” may depend on your current gut health and how much repair is needed, whether or not you’re eating an inflammatory foods diet, how much and what type of water you drink, and if you consume tobacco and alcohol.**

NO Gas.
Our shake is entirely plant-based and contains 15 grams of fermented pea and rice protein per serving.
Fermented plant protein is pre-digested which takes the strain off your digestive tract and makes it even easier for the body to use.
While the nutrients in other shakes might pass right through your body due to lack of absorption, ours yields maximum absorption and bioavailability, giving your body the resources it needs to heal and thrive.
Additionally, the combination of fermented pea and rice protein provides a complete protein, aka, a complete amino acid profile.
Why do amino acids matter?
They’re the building blocks of protein and play a huge role in promoting muscle growth, fat burning, high energy levels, and better mental clarity – all enormously important factors in maintaining a healthy body and mind.
The Importance Of Fats And Minerals?
The Body Ecology Probiotic Protein Shake is chock-full of healthy lipids too.
The shake contains beneficial fats from omega-3 fatty acids, as well as more beneficial protein from “Algavia” whole algal flour. These healthy lipids are supported by our exclusive mineral blend, bioavailable calcium, and trace minerals all sourced from ocean algae.
Fermented greens help to counterbalance the hearty plant proteins in the shake, alongside prebiotic fiber from whole, organic Jerusalem artichokes to feed the good bacterial spores; glucomannan fiber and fenugreek gum to support satiety; and Celtic sea salt as an added source of trace minerals.
People’s digestive tracts are either programmed to gain weight easily and retain weight all too well OR to be lean, fat-burning machines. These effects are realized by turning on crucial genes in the digestive tract that control our metabolic fate.
The latest research has shown that the type of bacteria you have in your very own gut controls the amount of calories you extract from the food you eat, the types of food you crave and also what that food is converted to in the digestion process.
Foods consumed, especially carbohydrates, can be converted to compounds that lead to insulin resistance, fat storage, gas production, and metabolites that cause inflammation.
The flip side to that coin (and the very good news) is that the right bacteria can convert the very same foods to important compounds that increase insulin sensitivity, increase fat burn, prevent fat storage, reduce inflammation, reduce gas production, and actually improve satiety.
The current programming in your gut can be changed by using the right probiotic bacteria and feeding those good bacteria with the right types of nutrients.
Our Probiotic Protein Shake is formulated with bacillus endospores, otherwise known as “gut police”. They get into the gut, read the microbiome and directly eliminate unfavorable and overgrown organisms. At the same time, they produce compounds to help the good bacteria grow.
So, while some of weight loss is dependent upon your actual diet, the big news is that a HUGE part of losing weight and keeping it off is dependent upon your inner ecosystem, and this we can change.
TASTE:
Even with its exceptional nutrient profile, the Body Ecology Probiotic Protein Shake is naturally sweet.
Free from added sugars, our Probiotic Protein Shake is sweetened with 100 percent organic flavors and Lakanto Monk Fruit extract that tastes as smooth as sugar. Zero-calorie Lakanto Monk Fruit Sweetener is good for the waistline, and it’s also diabetic-friendly. Lakanto has been proven not to raise insulin or blood sugar.

Good For You Canada Corp. --- (6 Strains 4 Billion Potency) --- #102920
Friendly Bacteria play an important role in our good health.
Poor diet, stress, steroids, chlorine in drinking water, and antibiotics, all contribute to an imbalance in these essential bacteria in men, women and children.
Content
Friendly Bacteria play an important role in our good health.
These bacteria are not like parasites, they do not take up residence and do nothing in return, but perform many important functions in the body. We live in true symbiosis with them. As long as we provide them with a reasonable diet they will remain in good health and provide excellent service in return. However, not all of the friendly bacteria perform the same functions, some being far more useful and plentiful than others. Certain bacteria help to maintain good health while others have a definite value in helping us regain health once it has been upset.
Of the friendly bacteria which help the human body most are residents, while others are transient visitors, staying in your digestive tract for a few weeks before passing on. Candida is a form of yeast normally confined to the lower bowels, the vagina, and the skin. In healthy individuals with strong, functioning immune systems, it is harmless and kept in check by “good” bacteria, called bifidobacteria and acidophilus. If the balance of the intestinal environment is altered by a compromised immune system or other factors, the opportunistic candida proliferates, infecting other body tissues and severely compromising one’s health.
The level of local acidity is one major influence upon the function of the friendly bacteria and this is contributed to by diet, digestive function, and stress. Another important influence is the speed of peristalsis (the wavelike contraction of the intestines) which moves food along the digestive tract. If it is too rapid (as in diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, or colitis) this severely reduces the efficiency of the flora. If it is too slow (as in atonic or spastic constipation) this too causes changes in their function.
The type of diet you eat is a major influence on bacterial health.
The bacteria are healthier on a diet rich in complex carbohydrates (vegetables, whole grains, legumes) and low in animal fats, sugars, and cultured dairy products (especially “live” yogurt and cottage cheese). Not surprisingly, the diet which is best for people is also ideal for healthy bacteria.
Certain drugs, especially antibiotics, can severely upset this delicate balance.
Penicillin will kill friendly bacteria just as efficiently as it will kill disease-causing bacteria.
Steroids, like hormonal drugs such as cortisone, prednisone, and birth control pills also cause great damage to the bowel flora. Many factors influence just how healthy the flora are. While the type of friendly bacteria living in a region may seem much the same in health and disease, the task they perform changes according to circumstances. For example, when bifidobacteria are in a good state of health they will detoxify pollutants and carcinogens as well as manufacture various B vitamins. When in a poor state of health, however, they just cannot do these jobs as well or at all.
The role of Friendly Bacteria within the body have far reaching effects.
They manufacture some of the B vitamins including niacin, B3, B6, folic acid, and biotin.
They also manufacture the milk-digesting enzyme lactase which helps digest calcium-rich dairy products.
They actively produce antibacterial substances which kill or deactivate hostile disease-causing bacteria.
They do this by changing the local levels of acidity, by depriving pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria of their nutrients, or by actually producing their own antibiotic substances which can kill invading bacteria, viruses, and yeasts. Naturally, they are doing this to preserve “their” territory.
Some bacteria (such as bifidobacteria and acidophilus) have been shown to have powerful anticarcinogenic features which are active against certain tumors. Rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosis spondylitis, have been found to be associated with overgrowth in the intestines of particular harmful bacteria, proteus, and klebsiella respectively. Both of these can be controlled by healthy bowel flora. There is no doubt that these powerful probiotics enhance the immune system.
In addition, it has been shown to do the following:
- digest foods,
- alleviate digestive disorders
- prevent bad breath,
- enhance synthesis of B vitamins
- improve calcium absorption,
- protect against E. coli infection,
- improve tolerance and digestibility of milk products,
- reduce vaginal infections and candidiasis, and
- promote anti-tumor and anti-cancer activity.

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria that occur naturally in the human intestinal tract.
Foods "cultured " with beneficial strains of probiotics such as yogurt and kefir have been used throughout history to improve overall health and vitality, and today, there are many studies reinforcing their ability to balance and promote digestive health.* Probiotics also play an important role in modulating the immune system, 70% of which is located in the gut.*
To make a probiotic supplement, selected strains of beneficial bacteria must first be cultured on a food medium, such as milk or soy. Since each strain of probiotics has an affinity for a different part of the digestive tract, and a unique mechanism of action, a product that delivers multiple strains is preferable to single strain products. As the probiotics replicate, they biotransform the food medium, breaking down nutrients and making them more bioavailable while secreting beneficial compounds into the medium called "synbiotics." Research suggest that synbiotics are largely responsible for the benefits of probiotics. In other words, " the medium is the message"
Most probiotic supplement manufacturers separate the probiotics from their food medium once the desired number of cultures is achieved, and therefore fail to deliver the full range of health benefits associated with eating probiotic foods. New Chapter's Probiotics with a purpose* line, however, uniquely offers multi-species blends of live probiotics with the symbiotic-rich organic growth medium intact.

Articles on the Internet are transitory.
The publishers may remove them, change sites, change URLs, or change titles.
For the purpose of maintaining an availability of these articles for us, I have reprinted parts here with authorship maintained, coding simplified for error-free loading and minimal file size, and a LINK to the original document. NOTHING in writing is absolute; don't treat human opinion, projection, and observation as an Idol. Doing so can kill you, or worse, have you impose abuse on others.
I gathered and researched this data, mediated with the Grace of God through prayer, first, as a benefit in my interest in exploring available digital information which would acquaint me with the overall content related to the subject. I have found that God is ALWAYS available when we are Reverent in our Asking, open-minded in our Listening, and, Assertive in our Choice of Action. Doctors did not expect me to survive birth. In the past 25 years, medical and health "experts" have cautioned or directed me, more than 14 times, that I had little time left to live, or would die ... because THEY did not understand my challenges, were not motivated to professionally diagnose, or, chose to superstitiously recall as absolute previously flawed training. I am still alive beyond age 70. With the assistance of God, my Personality, the research and lack of dismissiveness of a number of persons ... I have found resolution to numerous health challenges. This has enabled me to assist many others who had been abandoned. May it also empower you. This is one document which you may find helpful as a BASIC introduction to the subject.
