Brief:
Spiritual Access comes with the greatest ease when one is balanced in physical, emotional, intellectual, personality, and spiritual facets of identity. Extremes of need produce compulsions which distract and distort what one perceives.

Mysticism and Schizophrenia

Who is where ?

Awareness is an outcome of stimulation.
That stimulation may originate from within the body, by conscious will or by unconscious reflex, or, from outside the body by changes in the environment either linked to other persons, oneself, or other sources. Awareness provides a locational relevancy as to where one is in respect to other physical, illusory, and cosmic realities.

When stimulation increases in intensity and expansiveness, one feels happiness or frustration depending upon the perceptual value patterns of the person and the degree of security and comfort present. The ability to be open and focused in one's awareness often is an extension of one's degree of perceived privacy (security) and the degree of positive stimulation being experienced.

Terms we use to describe a rising degree of positive stimulation parallel "pleasure", "happiness", "joy", "excitement", and "ecstasy". Normally, one's sense of body and one's sense of spirit represent 2 parallel realities which are neither confused with or conflict with each other. A person who is adept at receiving Spiritual Guidance may be able to enter a bridged state in which both are experienced but the increasing degree of presence of the one will result in a lesser degree of presence of the other.

To the extent that one is held in the physical awareness by the influence of anxieties, confusions, trauma, discomfort, worry, shame, guilt, (distractions), the intellect imposes our consciousness to the exclusion of the spiritual. Energy Blocks [energyblk.htm] make this distractedness compulsive in nature.

The schizophrenic has difficulty differentiating, separating, and controlling these two states of awareness. This difficulty can lead to erratic mood expressions with the person fluctuating between manic hyperactive states of happiness and depressive deadened states of gloom. Because these changes are unchosen and dramatic in intensity or totality, there is an appearance of personality change or splitting.

Feelings of depersonalization, weakness, dizziness, dreaminess, lack of connection with and control of their physical body are frequently expressed by schizophrenics. Yet, they are not experiencing the positiveness of a spiritual state as described by mystics. For control of their awareness and connectedness between their identity and physical and spiritual realities, they must become more aggressive and confident in their choice of and experience of change.

Mysticism is an altered state of perception in which an individual dissociates from regular conscious physical reality into a state often later referred by them as "spiritual". These states are almost always reported as experienced when one is alone in a chosen environment of not inter-relating to others. It is aggressively entered into in that it is consciously chosen, or, a facilitating environment is consciously constructed or entered into.

Patterns of progressive relaxation, endorphin enhancement, and release or blocking out of intellectual and environmental distractions are frequently followed. With practice, the pattern is adopted by the Reptilian Structure and automated so that a once lengthy exercise to reach a state of physical quietude is arrived at almost instantaneously. It is important to note that this is typically a structured experience, chosen, to the degree that it must be learned, and later "allowed" to be entered by such triggering cues as the experience was planned around.

Perceptions in the mystical state are often later described as paradoxical in terms of one's ability to put them into words. Words are what we use to describe our physical reality. Descriptions constantly allude to "seeing" something and "feeling" something which are not physical yet are totally absorbing in the intensity and presence of their nature. Such experiences often impact the participant to the point that one's moral values and ability for spiritual perception are both stimulated, infused, and remembered for the remaining of that person's lifetime.

The mystical state is intense to the extent that all physical perceptive awareness is excluded. It has been described as being in another dimension for there is no sense of time or space, yet there is a state of ethereal happiness and contentment that may be considered deeper than that of ecstasy. It is a state of experiencing, of being, not of thinking or feeling.

Access to Spiritual Guidance is most often attained in a state betwixt physical consciousness and mysticism. It is like having a foot in each world with the firmness and presence greater in the spiritual. One can use cues to posit the information being received into the present. This will depend upon the triggers chosen by the adept in their learning. Visualizations, biofeedback, and pendulum movements are just a few of the possibilities. As one is experienced, has practiced, and is free of distractions --- the inrush of Spiritual Guidance may be spontaneous.

An increasing sensitivity may enable one to pick up the energies of others nearby, and later, at a distance. This can have negative consequences with the receiver mirroring the physical and emotional state of their subject with a difficulty in releasing the connection. Fundamentally, the degree of one's skill development is relative to the degree that one's Identity is confident in the process and not introducing defences and distractions. If the referred symptoms are perceived to be negative, the person's Identity [identity.htm] aspects may begin to limit one's degree of penetration through fear and insecurity defences.

The schizophrenic projects a perception of reality in response to intense unconscious defences, which are termed Energy Blocks [energyblk.htm] in this work. They are the influence of traumatic experiences for which more constructive responses were not available and could not be found in the instant. Now, they run like filmclips in the background, triggered by a recognition of cues in physical reality.

Many dreams are the work of the Unconscious Reptilian Structure associating symbols to the feelings of concern in the recent past. Perhaps part of the schizophrenic experience is this form of dreaming imposing itself unto the present and consciousness such that the subject does not have a certainty as to which is real and yet is aware enough to sense and be afraid of the distance of the Ego self from the projected experience.

Schizophrenic perception tends to dissociate the perceptions of the individual from regular conscious physical reality. There is a tendency for these perceptions to occur spontaneously aside from conscious choice, for them to remain inordinately long, and for them to confuse ones ability to distinguish between the altered state and that of a perception of physical reality. To the uninitiated, the outside expression of the schizophrenic may suggest that loss of contact with physical reality must predispose contact with the spiritual.

More directly, the schizophrenic is held even further from the spiritual by the distractions of the projected reality. The inner cinema of dream-like mirages floating into the present from past traumatic memories destroy one's capability for Reverence and No-emotion by encouraging their opposites of Paranoia and Intellectualization. The aggressiveness of focused action required for the mystic becomes passive inaction in the controlling daydream-like realities of the schizophrenic.

Calling: Earth to Universe.

Accessing Spiritual Guidance (Holy Spirit, Holy Ghost, Universe-wide Knowledge) occurs when an individual utilizes a pattern of behavior to dissociate temporarily from physical reality and "slip" into a spiritual presence. In this state, knowledge which bridges time and distance and which bridges desire with availability becomes current. This state is always chosen by virtue of willing oneself into a receptive orientation, or by activating a learned reflex which automates the process.

A receptive pattern which I have found to be consistent in its effectiveness and efficient according to degree of practice and personal capability and inclination is as follows. By learning to experience the dual states of Reverence AND No-Emotion (The Silence, mind-quieting), one may find the conscious mind becomes open to such cosmic knowledge.

Distraction is the enemy that will pull and hold one in the present and in the physical. Spiritual Guidance can provide the answers to anything that can be asked. Be careful not to ask for what you are not yet ready to accept. Be aware that the Future is a projection of the actions and beliefs of persons and other entities in the Present and that their choice provides for constant change until the Future becomes Real in the Present.

This Source of information is ever present for trying to access it is never hampered if one can maintain the feelings of Reverence and No-emotion, without distraction. This context of calm and centeredness is thus the critical factor which acts as a catalyst to the "gliding" in and out of one's access to Spiritual Guidance. One must be fully aware of what such distractions are and structure one's lifestyle and environment to eliminate them as far as possible if one is to have maximal success in Spiritual Guidance contact.

Our Reptilian Structure Unconscious is wholly concerned with our physical survival in the Present. It founds its responses as patterned on the Past. The Past includes a thousand genetic patterns of regulating respiration, cooling, digesting, circulation, elimination, and security. To the extent that a person harbors Energy Blocks, [energyblk.htm] that person will also carry inflexible reactive behaviors and perceptions into the Present which are intended to prevent the traumas of the Past reoccurring. As such behaviors are automatic, they present the ever available distraction of defensiveness with which are associated only actions and perceptions which pull one tightly into physical reality. Access to Spiritual Guidance can improve relative to one's discharge of Energy Blocks.

Our Ego wants acknowledgement, acceptance, and encouragement so that it can feel rewarded, important, comfortable, and successful. A person who has suppressed, victimized, or undisciplined their Ego, can have difficult accessing Spiritual Guidance either by being too proud and irreverent, or, by being too passive and self-absorbed in responses (most negative emotions and intellectualization) of the insecure and abused.

A Schizophrenic usually has an Ego so weakened by energy block trauma that it is desperate for acknowledgement yet afraid to seek same in the outer social reality. It is so desperate that it will deceive the Super-Ego of the person into believing the fantasy reality it creates first as Real, and secondly, as so real as to be divine. This self-deception allows for a pattern of irreverence and self-worship bordered by paranoia, a fear of the deception being found out.

One must know oneself, accept oneself, appreciated oneself, and love oneself -- before one can be easily centered enough to enter into the Reverent and No-Emotion states which predispose one to receive Guidance. One must often find and generate these qualities from within as it is unfortunately rare to find another who can mirror this for us or act as a supervisor who can confirm our accuracy of Guidance and improve from our errors. A clear indication of a person who has the ability to access Spiritual Guidance clearly is one of inner peace, not paranoia. They will be aware of the negatives attached to reality as well as the positives and be able to balance them for continual success under the worst of conditions.

Our SuperEgo social values, if we were to look closely at them, position us for inclusion in the prevailing status quo of the cultural ethics, realities, and myths. It is a recognition that in groups there is power and that such power can be used to leverage our abilities, physical wellbeing and security, and opportunities for satisfaction. Who we know and how we revere them can decide how hard we work, for whom or with whom, how long, and for what return.

Typically, the more "connected" we are, the more conscious demands and distractions we have. The more tightly that these connections attach us to physical and social wealth and power, there is often a demand for distance from the spiritual. If you have sold your soul to the business, family, spouse, possessions, status, or power --- you will quickly find a conflict with Spiritual Guidance. Every time you deny Guidance, you introduce the distractions of doubt, guilt, and lust.

Our Basic Personality represents our birth determined strengths and weakness in terms of capabilities and tendencies. These we can extend in application and build into practical skills. Too often, Energy Blocks [energyblk.htm] "defend" us from the areas in which we could best refine our talents or apply them. Equally often, imprinting and social trends and pressures encourage us to use our abilities where others see real, illusory, and imaginary benefits. The most direct way of cutting through all of this deception and manipulation is to ask one's Spiritual Guidance as to short-long-term directions and choose to follow them. One needs inner strength to make such choices: a minimum of distractions and conflicts.

Acknowledging Your Reality

What are you ?
Distractions to one's consciousness include anything that contributes to worry, anxiety, compulsiveness, fear, pride, anger, joy, comparativeness. In short, anything which stimulates intellectual activity or any emotion other than reverence and no-emotion.

If one is going to minimize distractions, one must first be aware of them. If one has a confused or indistinct awareness and experience of these factors, one is poorly equipped to determine their triggers and sources and cannot be effective in minimizing them.

Representational models of human identity can assist us in acknowledging real neural physical separation of capabilities and structures. The one indicated on the Earthtym site and in this Health Balance Package is a composite of Paul D. McLean's "Triune Concept of Brain and Behavior" (Reptilian Structure, Limbic Structure, Neocortex), Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytical structures (Ego, SuperEgo, Id), with the addition and extension to include the Higher Self. An Identity Chart [identity.htm] may help you in following this description. Links from the chart will outline the strengths and weaknesses of each identity factor.

A sense of inner calm and security greatly facilitates ones access to Spiritual Guidance. This is easily disrupted if one's needs are either lacking or excessively stimulated. Utilizing substances and means to disproportionately raise one's libido relative to its personal norm will exhaust the adrenal and thyroid glands and stimulate conscious interference in the context of self concern expressed through energy and time wasting emotions including anxiety, worrying, depression, fear, jealousy, guilt --- in answer to energy block and rationally encouraged intense emotion of lust or paranoic fear of abandonment.

Healthfulness overall can be a reward which attends balanced expression of one's needs, feelings, and desires. One of the least costly means for women to maintain healthy skin and circulatory system is by way of sexual orgasm. This has been asserted by women gynecologists and skin care writers interested in the health and quality-of-life of women.

Motivation can also lessen or defer distraction.
Sexual libido is largely an Ego (Personal Values) need but there are also attachments to the Reptilian Structure (Hormonal Equilibrium), one's Basic Personality (Gender expression), and SuperEgo (acceptance). If the "reward" is expected to be worthy, the Identity expressions can back off on their immediate demands knowing there will be a worth-waiting-for-reward later. One must be careful and honest if one makes this choice. Too long a delay will sabotage the pattern and the benefit will be lost with the brain being encouraged to ignore future proposals as deceptive and dishonest. The simplest direction is to check which strategy to follow with your Higher Self --- Every time.

Extremes produce distractions.

Distraction of the conscious and unconscious contributors of awareness will arise whenever any contributor is either in a state of demand (aggressive) or fullness (passivity). If demands for Ego (personal value) qualities are lacking, distraction will occur from the attention and energies devoted to trying to have them satisfied. If demands for SuperEgo (social values) qualities are lacking, distraction will likewise occur with energies devoted to trying to satisfy those.

Reptilian Structure demands are often the most easily recognized and can be the most consciously invasive. Hunger, temperature extremes, noxious odors, pain, libido, excretion, and other "health and security" requirements represent some of the basic "housekeeping" which must be satisfied before one can relax into Reverence and No-Emotion. An intent to deny these needs simply results in a toxification of bodily fluids and a dulling and clogging of both conscious and unconscious perceptions.

Identity Management

Growth in population density over the past several millennia has necessitated the development of political structures in order to manage individual anarchy within defined hierarchies of human authority. A segregation of once earlier self-sufficiency tasks into increasingly complex and differentiated skills, roles, trades, and occupations has made most social participants dependent upon one another. Providing a uniform perceptual structure for harmony of communication and interaction has fallen to god-like authorities who institute "laws" to regulate the whole.

Historically, human expertise has a pattern of eventual catastrophic failure as civilizations disappear through over-reliance of technology (irrigation), settlement (rigidity), pride (shortfalls in planning), greed (theft of others through war), and dependency (slavery through illusions). Too often, social leaders impose projected and irrelevant standards on a trusting public which increasingly lure that public into patterns of dis-ease, physically, emotionally, intellectually, and, spiritually.

Imbalance strives for balance through distraction.
Trauma may be described as an experience of intensity or extreme for which the person is ill prepared and to which an Energy Block [energyblk.htm] compulsive reaction is developed. Whether by conscious, unconscious, or a combined sense of awareness, the affected individual may develop behaviors which reflect values of "never" and "always". Typically, the following become some of the possible varieties of expression:

    • abandonment demands acceptance at any cost;
    • starvation produces a compulsion to gluttony;
    • denial allows continuance, failure, frustration;
    • fear displays passivity, aggressiveness, avoidance;
    • difficulty enables procrastination, intolerance, loss ...

Most often, the distractions taken to resolve the imbalances either maintain the imbalance, or, create NEW imbalances. Satisfaction cannot be attained until the compulsive judgement of must have "more" or "less" can be converted to "enough". The more that a "need" is unfulfilled, the more extreme the efforts may become to fulfil it. Extreme perceptions lead to extreme behaviors which are high in risk and dangerous to one's physical and emotional health. Extremes betray insecurity, doubt, and fear ... all of which contribute to spiritual weakening.

Extremes prevent access to Spiritual Guidance by cluttering one's consciousness with anxieties and fears and clogging one's physicality with poor functioning due to toxification of malnutrition and malperception. Extremes create new problems and anxieties thereby worsening the potential for balance rather than improving it.

The over-rational person, dissociated from their feelings and often harboring an inferiority complex as their core with energy blocks triggered by abandonment, fear, need, difficulty, expectation, and denial --- fill one's conscious and unconscious awareness with imaginary future dangers and false hopes, and, terrifying pasts projected into the present and the future. Worries and anxieties grow layer upon layer as an outcome of defences raised against the errors made obsessive from defences against earlier concerns. Our illusory marketed reality is always on the verge of collapse --- an addiction that promises security, yet delivers greater need and distraction.

The most direct way to improve one's access to Spiritual Guidance is to redefine one's priorities, reduce one's level of need, improve one's self-sufficiency, increase one's humility, live frugally but with an attitude of quality, and learn to take the time to savor and appreciate those everyday things that are inexpensive.

Sexual Harmony.

Sexual harmony is a focus here for it is carefully neglected and ignored in Western spiritual writings out of fear of social ostracism, out of pride of secrecy, or out of genuine ignorance and misdirected self-obsessed intellectualized emotionless ritual. Energy block induced intensity of character and strong willed personalities tend to express impatience and aggressiveness leading to emotional, physical, and spiritual abuses which often close off one's heart expressiveness of emotions. A defensiveness to the emotional vulnerability required for true honesty, openness, and trust in communication washes away expression of feelings to be replaced by a glut of intellectualization.

From sexual wilderness to sexual excess has been the North American contribution to the 1900's. Here was a population imprisoned in sexual ignorance enough to make cave dwellers seem super smart. Add to that, fears of emotional expression derived from authoritarian repression and abusiveness growing out of poverty, war, famine, pandemic, and abandonment. The result is persons afraid to express feelings and sensuality as if robbed of parents and role models. Like domesticated carnivores dissociated from their life skill of hunting, North Americans were disassociated from the life skill of loving.

Abandoned by poor parents and ones who died through war or disease, many orphans came to the "new" world. Homeless, prostitutes and petty criminals were gathered from the streets of Europe and dumped overseas. Religious outcasts and political prisoners were shipped off, or escaped to exile. Ignorance commonly leads to mistakes. Fear of brutality, or an oversensitivity to abandonment or rejection predisposed passiveness and an abuse of rights. Pioneer hardship tended to foster harsh and simple lifestyles with little occasion for a display of sophisticated communication skills and the playfulness of spontaneity. Practicality and necessity replaced sharing with duty and expected role.

The late 1800s found Kellogg in the USA promoting health regimes with an avoidance of masturbation. Similarly, Schreber [bal-paranoia.htm] in Germany promoted obsessive self-discipline to the point of child abuse through emotional, physical, and spiritual traumatization. The legacy has been innumerable cases of child and adult sexual abuse, much of which was carried on in coercive, culturally shame-filled and protected conspiracies of silence.

In 2002, we saw major religious institutions on the verge of bankruptcy for minimal allowances paid on behalf of nuns and priests who abused their charges. Reports noting high frequencies of date-rape, incest, adultery, pornography addiction, and marriage breakdown extend from the lust engendered by self-hate and the natural expression of libido through marriage and/or masturbation found everywhere outside of North America.

Choosing to follow Spiritual Guidance, as a commitment, leaves little opportunity for the waste of distraction. Lust can be a major distracting factor. Maintaining harmony, in sexuality as in the other areas of life demands self-awareness, self-direction, and self-responsibility. There can be no excuse for not being the master of one's life. Unless you can feel soothed in mind and body, you are distracted. Unless you "nourish" yourself, to the point of "enough", your desperate need betrays your inability to share. One cannot share from a deficit. Giving and sharing is possible when you have a loving partner who values Guidance before self-interest and commitment before duty.

In terms of sexual libido (desire) and ease of access to Spiritual Guidance, you must either eliminate it, or satisfy it. Eliminating it limits one's expression of, and one's ability to share love. Satisfaction is the more balanced direction. If one is not prepared for a partner or a suitable partner has yet to be found, the sincerely to-be-Guided person may find physical self-appreciation, through masturbation the only healthy way to avoid the distractive negativity of lust through interim physical joy.

If you do not love and respect yourself, you cannot love and respect another.
Believe yourself to be unlovable, and you will betray your hatred of others through distrust, deception, manipulation, dishonesty, and irreverence ... a difficult path to receiving Guidance without distortion. When you can love yourself, you have something to share rather than to conceal, your self. The associated Package files may inform you better, and assist you to maintain your physical love expression in balance.
