What Is Glycation And Why It Is Important?

Do you like your steak rare like me?
I'm talking about beef that's red in the middle.

You should. There's no scientific support for the popular belief that it's better for your health to cook a steak until it's well-done. In fact, cooking in this way can accelerate the symptoms of aging, including arthritis, cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Why? Overcooking "denatures" protein, lowers vitamin content, and destroys beef's essential nutrients. And new research has uncovered a direct connection between overcooking and premature aging.

It's the result of a process called "glycation."
Glycation is what happens to proteins in our body as we age.
It's the same transformation that turns a turkey's skin brown and crispy when it's deep fried.

Glycation is really just the binding of protein and glucose molecules (sugar).
This produces a class of compounds called "glycotoxins," which literally means "sugar poisons." As these poisons build up the cells of your body, they send out harmful chemical signals. The body responds by producing sites of inflammation.

What's more, proteins left "denatured" through overcooking don't regenerate.
They remain damaged. This speeds the aging process.

A new study proved that eating meat "well-done" transfers these glycotoxins directly into your body at the cellular level. Researchers at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine took 24 diabetics and split them into two groups. One group ate a low-glycotoxin diet, the other a diet much higher in glycotoxins.

After only two weeks, those eating a high-glycotoxin diet saw a 100 percent increase in glycotoxin blood and urine levels compared with the other group.(1)

Overcooking destroys vital nutrients, especially vitamin B12.
CoQ10 is another. As you may know, every cell in your body needs this critical compound to convert fuel into energy, especially your major organs like the heart, brain, and liver. Beef happens to be the best source of CoQ10 on earth.

You can reduce glycotoxin levels by cooking your steak at a lower heat, or by "searing" it: throw it on the grill or in the pan at very high heat but for only two minutes or so on either side. This cooks the outside while sealing in the juices (and the key nutrients).

Grass-fed, pasture-raised beef has a distinct, meaty flavor you won't find in commercial meat. Old Theories of Aerobic Training Are Crumbling...

Finally, the old theories of aerobic training are crumbling under the weight of new evidence. At the center of the breakthrough is lactic acid. You've probably heard of it, especially if you've ever had a coach or a trainer. Conventional wisdom said you had to avoid lactic acid because its build up in your muscles caused pain, fatigue and the soreness you feel after "over doing it".

We were told to exercise aerobically and not cross the dreaded lactic threshold.
To do so would mean an-aerobic (without oxygen) exercise, which created the damaging lactic acid. That sparked the aerobics craze that reached its peak in the 1980's.

But this theory never jived with my real world experience of the benefits of exceeding your aerobic threshold (which would build lots of the dreaded lactic acid.) It turns out lactic acid is not only not your enemy. To the contrary, it's fuel for your muscles.

Dr. George Brooks from the University of California at Berkeley recently found that lactic acid is taken up and burned for energy by your mitochondria – the energy factories in your muscle cells.1 What's more, it can not create the after workout soreness because it is rapidly removed as you burn it for fuel. In other words, it's long gone before you get sore.

A high output, anaerobic workout is exactly what your body needs to increase your lungpower, build reserve capacity in your heart and melt away your fat stores.

To move your workout into the anaerobic range, the key feature I use is this: Create an "oxygen debt." Simply exercise at a pace you can't sustain as in a short sprint. Ask your lungs for more oxygen than they can provide. The difference between the oxygen you need and the oxygen you get is your oxygen debt. This will cause you to pant and continue to breathe hard even after you've stopped the sprint until you replace the oxygen you're lacking.

Let's say you pedal as fast as you can on a bike for 15 seconds.
When you stop, you continue to pant.
This is the kind of high-output challenge I'm talking about.
You have reached a supra-aerobic zone.
This is very different from doing an aerobic workout for 45 minutes.

Aerobic exercise is low to medium output held for an extended period.
Anaerobic or supra-aerobic exercise is high output, but short in duration.
Why is this important? For one thing, it restores an element of your native environment.
Our ancestors lived in a world where our food fought back. Predators attacked without notice.
They had to run or fight – fast and hard. These short bursts of high-output activity fine tuned our ancient ancestors and kept them fit. We still have the same physiology.

This is the basis for my PACE® program.

.. Protein is essential for the production of sex hormones.

To get the maximum amount of protein, focus on the "big five:" meat, wild fish, eggs, dairy, and nuts.

Red meat:
I consider beef to be among the most nutritious foods.
The protein is complete and it's a good source of creatine. Creatine makes you stronger and more energetic. Red meat is also the best source of the nutrient CoQ10, which is essential for heart health. And knowing that there's a strong connection between ED and heart disease, it makes sense that CoQ10 also plays an important role in sexual health. I recommend eating grass-fed beef. It has 20 times more of the important omega-3 fatty acids than commercial beef and none of the hormones.

Wild fish:
You've probably heard that fish can be a source of mercury and other toxins. However, you can minimize these risks and enjoy the benefit of this rich source of omega-3s by choosing wild Alaskan salmon, mackerel, trout, or sardines. Chose wild over farm-raised and small over large fish. The highest levels of mercury are in swordfish, shark and king mackerel and tuna.

Eggs:
Eggs are the perfect food. I eat them every day.
Sure, they contain cholesterol. They don't even raise your blood cholesterol. Sure, eggs contain cholesterol. The developing embryo needs it to produced sex hormones-and so do you. But just because they contain it, doesn't mean they'll raise your cholesterol levels. The bottom line: Eggs do not cause heart disease. In fact, there was never any evidence they did.

Egg yolks have all required fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K), iron, and heart healthy omega-3 fat. The whites have all the water-soluble B vitamins and are the source of the highest quality protein on the face of the planet.

Dairy:
Dairy is "liquid meat," and full of good protein.
Cheese and whole milk are a great source of calcium and vitamin D.
Raw, organic milk is best.

Nuts:
Nuts are rich in healthy monounsaturated fat.
Walnuts and almonds among the most nutritious with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, fiber, potassium, and other minerals. Other good choices are pecans, macadamias, cashews, and brazil nuts. Enjoy them as a snack instead of chips or crackers.


Other factors like excessive drinking and smoking also have a profound effect on both your performance and stamina.

A few drinks will put you in the mood, but too many will make you useless. And smoking? Let's put it this way: the Marlboro Man doesn't see much action these days. A solid erection requires blood vessels that are flexible and able to expand. Smoking will tighten your blood vessels making them too narrow to channel the amount of blood you need for an erection.

Reignite Your Desire and Get Back in the Game

Western drugs can help you get an erection, but loss of desire is not something western science is equipped to deal with. Sure, your doctor may give you an anti-depressant, but that will only make the problem worse. You may not realize it, but many of the active ingredients in popular anti-depressants actually suppress your libido.

When I was in India, I discovered an ancient remedy they've been using since antiquity. Ashwagandha is a member of an elite group of herbs called adaptogens. These enigmatic plants have the power to normalize and balance various functions in your body. They can eliminate fatigue and help you to handle stress.

Recent studies confirm that ashwagandha helps your body make nitric oxide (NO).2 NO relaxes smooth muscle tissue and improves blood flow. The blue little pill works on the same principle.

What's more, new research shows ashwagandha may help with anxiety and depression. In a clinical trial, doctors found that patients who took ashwagandha for 5 days experienced the same level of anxiety relief as those who took the prescription drugs Ativan (anti-anxiety) and Tofranil (antidepressant).3

Ashwagandha is the root of the Withania somnifera plant.
Most ashwagandha products are standardized extracts of withanolides - the active components. The most common standard is 5 percent.

Ashwagandha can potentiate the effect of barbiturates.4
If you are taking a sedative or sleeping pill, you should check with your doctor before using ashwagandha.

As a capsule, I usually start with 250mg a day.
I use it every day for about 4 to 6 weeks, then stop for a month. Most herbs will lose their effectiveness if you take them continuously without a break. Then, you can continue another cycle.

      Libido-Pumping Herbal All Stars

    • Ashwagandha is a great place to start.
      But having other strategies is important when you're using herbs.
      Here are a few more options for you:

    • Tribulus Terrestris:
      This reliable herb has been used in Europe for centuries to boost sex hormone levels and has been clinically proven to restore and improve libido in men. Recommendation: 250 mg of Tribulus Terrestris daily.

    • Muira Puama:
      Recent scientific studies confirm the powerful aphrodisiac qualities of this herb. In 1990, men suffering from ED or loss of libido took Muira Puama extract. 62 percent of those with loss of libido reported improvement. More than 50 percent of those with ED reported improvement.5 Recommendation: 100 mg of Muira Puama extract daily.

    • Yohimbe:
      This herb is from the inner bark of a tree, which grows in Africa. At one time, the drug made from yohimbe, yohimbine was the only medication approved by the FDA for the treatment of ED. Recommendation: 250 mg of Yohimbine extract daily.

      This supplement is widely taken to help your body deal with stress. Ginseng also increases stamina and energy. It can even improve your testosterone levels. When you consider it also has a positive effect on blood flow, it's easy to see why ginseng would be valuable to maintain an erection. Recommendation: 250 mg of Korean Red Ginseng daily. ...

Finally, The First Step Toward Agelessness has Come!

But they don’t. You can tell the difference between a newly divided “old” cell and a newly divided “young” one just by looking at them under a microscope. Each new cell is not an exact copy of its parent cell. This is how we age. Still, the reason why remained a mystery.

The answer emerged slowly over the last half a century.
The first breakthrough came in 1965, when a geneticist named Leonard Hayflick discovered that most cells only divide about 80 times, then slow down and die.1

This became known as the “Hayflick limit.”
He proved there’s an “internal clock” that carefully ticks off the rate of division among all the trillions of cells in your body.

Not only that: this mysterious clock appears to “tell” each cell when to start functioning less and less efficiently ... and when to launch a “programmed” death. It’s as if your whole lifespan is repeated in miniature at the cellular level.

Hayflick’s discovery had important implications for the field of anti-aging.
His work suggested that there is a mechanism inside every cell that determines longevity.

... discovered twenty-five years later.
The prestigious journal Nature published a groundbreaking article in 1990 that introduced the world to an explanation of the genetic mechanism that involves something called the “telomere.”2

Telomeres are small stretches of protein “caps” at the ends of every cell’s DNA.
They are represented here graphically:

DNA is made up of two “strands” of long sequences of genes.
As you can see, they take the shape of what’s called a “double helix”—sort of like a spiral staircase. They contain all your genetic material.

The telomeres act like the plastic fittings at the end of your shoelaces.
They were previously known only for their role in healthy gene function because they keep the ends from “fraying.”

What the authors published in Nature was the new realization that the telomere is also your biological clock. Each time your cells divide, a small end portion of the telomere is not copied making your telomeres get shorter and shorter over time. Each new generation of cells has a slightly shorter telomere than its parent did. Further research confirmed it. Telomeric length is now known as the marker of a given cell’s age.

And, it turned out that telomeres are more than just “counters” that tick off your cell’s age. They also govern the aging process. As they shorten with each new division, they cause the chromosome to fold differently exposing a different portion of your genome. This is how you can be so different at 72 than you were at 2. You have the same genes. But… you are transcribing or reading a different combination of genes as you age. This process eventually signals to your cells to “grow old,” stop dividing and that cell line dies off.

Later studies revealed .. that telomeric length for certain types of cells stays the same. For example, some cancer cells do not lose any of their telomeres as they divide. They are technically “immortal,” and this is one of the reasons why they wreak such havoc on the body. They can keep dividing without losing any genetic material, until they finally take over.

The question remained is there a safe way that we can maintain telomere length as your cells divide over time? We now know the answer is yes.

Reset Your Biological Clock

Over ten years ago, I learned about a biotech company called Geron Corporation. They’ve taken what we know about the telomere and explored the possibility of manipulating its length in order to stop cells from aging. Ever since they were founded in 1990, they’ve remained at the cutting edge of telomere biology.

The next amazing step in the science occurred when Geron researchers found that the key to anti-aging lies in an enzyme your body makes called “telomerase.” It can take control of the aging process by rebuilding the end of your telomeres to remain the same length with each new cell division.

We all have the gene to make telomerase, but it’s switched off.

They were exploring the possibility of inserting a gene for telomerase into aging cells or developing a drug to turn on the gene for telomerase when they hit upon a natural compound that turns on telomerase and rebuilds an aging telomere.

It comes from an ancient Chinese herb that grows in temperate northern climates.
It turns out that the herb Astralagus contains small amounts of a molecule named TA-65 that throws the switch on the gene that makes telomerase.

The problem is, you can’t just take Astralagus and stop aging.
You need a highly concentrated form of TA-65 as an extract.
It has to be pure, free of toxins, and only comes from certain species of the plant.

Geron licensed the product to a company I’m working with.
They have found it in a small region of China.

There’s a reason why: researchers have found that people with high homocysteine levels tripled the amount of telomere length that was lost during cell division.7 No wonder it’s linked to so many age-related diseases.

Throw a Steak on the Grill and
Forget About Heart Disease…

Your heart uses animal fat for fuel.
In fact, your heart is covered with a layer of “animal fat” that it uses as an energy booster during times of stress.1

All native cultures put animal fats at the center of their diet and show no trace of heart attacks or heart disease. The Inuits of Alaska, better known as the Eskimos, eat a diet that is over 90% animal fat. And before they were exposed to the typical Western diet they had no history of heart disease. ...

Saturated fat’s one of your body’s basic building blocks.
It makes up at least 50 percent of all cell membranes.
Many key hormones and hormone-like substances are made up of this kind of fat.

Every time you eat fat, it slows down your body’s absorption of food and keeps you from feeling hungry. And of course it’s a source of concentrated energy. This is why people who don’t worry so much about fat are often slimmer and more vigorous than those who do.

More good news about saturated fat: it’s the carrier for a variety of key nutrients, including the “fat-soluble” vitamins A, D, E, and K (butter’s packed with these, by the way), and the heart’s most critical fuel, CoQ10. Without fat, your body couldn’t absorb and use them.

It also needs saturated fat to convert some vital compounds into usable form.
For instance, it uses saturated fat to turn carotene into vitamin A. These are nutrients your body must have to maintain optimum health across the board, from eyesight, bone and muscle strength to proper insulin levels, a sense of well-being—and a reduced risk of heart disease.

    It protects you against harmful microorganisms in the digestive tract.

When Americans Jumped on the Low-Fat Bandwagon
... Heart Attacks Skyrocketed …

You’d think that ever since the 1950s, when the government began making “low-fat” dieting official policy — and people started eating less animal fat — heart disease rates would drop off a cliff. But the opposite has happened.

The proportion of traditional animal fat in the average American diet fell from 83 percent to 62 percent between 1910 and 1970. During the same period, the percentage of fat from vegetable sources—including shortening, margarine, and refined oils, shot up by about 400 percent.

Since then, more people have been getting fatter and dying of heart disease than ever before—forty percent of all deaths each year in the U.S. alone. It’s become our nation’s number one killer.

So what’s changed to cause such a drastic rise in heart-related deaths?

One thing that hasn’t — our fundamental physiology, which evolved over millions of years to rely on saturated fat as a major energy source. There’s a reason you have a taste for this kind of fat. It’s good for you, and your genetic make-up adapted to make use of it.

Consider this: if you look at the wild game our pre-historic ancestors most commonly hunted and ate, including the nutrient-packed organ meat as well as the flesh of the animal, their body fat was heavily saturated. ...

The nuts and seeds they foraged were also rich in fat.
To take one example, pecans—a staple of the Native American diet in the Southeast—are 85 percent fat.

... In one of the largest studies of its kind, researchers looked at the diets of 6,000 people from the town of Framingham, Massachusetts. They compared two groups in five-year intervals for four decades: those who ate diets low in cholesterol and saturated fats, and those who consumed relatively high amounts of saturated fat and cholesterol. ...

“In Framingham, Mass., the more saturated fat one ate, the more cholesterol one ate, the more calories one ate, the lower the person’s serum cholesterol . . . We found that the people who ate the most cholesterol, ate the most saturated fat, ate the most calories, weighed the least and were the most physically active.”

A British study involving several thousand men found the same thing.
Half quit smoking, switched over to a restricted diet with lowered saturated fat and cholesterol, and ramped up their consumption of “healthy” fats like vegetable oils and margarine. The other half ate what they pleased and even kept on smoking. After only one year, the group who stuck to the “good” diet experienced 100 percent more deaths from heart-related illness than those on the “bad” diet.4

Finally, a team of researchers at the Northwest Lipid Research Clinic in Seattle found that a diet rich in saturated fats actually slowed the progression of heart disease in patients already showing signs of poor heart health. ...

  • Scientists in India discovered that people in the northern part of the country ate 17 times more animal fat than people in the south, but their overall incidence of heart disease was seven times lower.6

      • The French eat more saturated fats in the form meat, liver, paté, butter, cream, and cheese than people in almost any other Western nation. Yet the heart-related death rate among middle-aged men there is 145 per 100,000, compared to 315 per 100,000 in the US. And heart-related deaths in France are actually lowest in Gascony, the region in France where people eat the most fat.7

      • Most people think the Japanese eat a low-fat diet.
        But this is a myth. The truth is that (the Japanese) get plenty of fat from eggs, chicken, beef, pork, organ meats, and shellfish. The amount of animal fat in their diet has gone up steadily since World War II. Yet rates of heart disease there are among the lowest in the world—and their average lifespan has actually increased. ...

    Societies that eat a lot of saturated fat with low rates of heart disease generally maintain higher standards of purity than American commercial food makers do. They also raise more of their domestic livestock on grasses, not grains.

    The result is that the fat in their meat is in exactly the right proportion for optimum health. Grass-fed cattle, for instance, yield meat that’s packed with omega-3, which we normally think of as coming from fish.

    Saturated fat from commercially raised animals today, on the other hand, is bad for you. Cattle, pigs, chickens, and other livestock from modern feedlots are forced to eat grains instead of the grasses they evolved to digest and get pumped full of hormones, antibiotics.

    The result is a diseased animal with the fat content in its meat thrown out of healthy balance. Even worse, many pesticides and other toxins get stored in the fat of the animal.

    This is where the Atkins diet went wrong.
    Dr. Atkins was right about the nutritional importance of fat, but he failed to take into account the consequences of an adulterated food supply.

    You also can’t really eat fat to your heart’s content, as many people who followed Atkins believed. But you can get up to 35 percent of your total daily calories from fat without worry.

    Look for meat and animal-derived products that come from organic, grass-fed, and free-range animals. Remember, enjoying meat doesn’t have to mean always cooking a NY Strip on the grill. Here are some other options.

    1. Buy a brisket and drop it in the slow cooker and let it sit for 8 hours.
      Throw in some veggies and you can get two or three good meals out of it.

    2. Cook up some flank steaks and slice them up for a low carb wrap.

    3. Try using ground sirloin for better burgers. Skip the bun.

If you get muscle cramps, stop the creatine for a week and then begin again at half the dose and massage the muscle that cramped to stimulate circulation before each exercise session.

    Other athletes, especially sprinters have reported nausea during exercise after taking creatine. If you should get this, try eating a couple of slices of pineapple or papaya after your creatine.

    Overall, it is very well tested, all natural, and has an exception safety record. If you use it intelligently, creatine can enhance your athletic performance, strength and virility, and help to increase your lean body mass.

    As for NO2 boosters (or arginine) .. side effects .. over use can lead to nausea. ..

    Another concern you should be aware of when supplementing with creatine and NO2 boosters is to go light on the caffeine. Caffeine and these supplements don’t mix well. Some studies suggest that caffeine (a common performance enhancer among athletes) may diminish the effectiveness of creatine and NO2 boosters if taken at the same time.

    Take Full Advantage of the Benefits of Creatine
    Although you get some creatine if you eat a diet high in red meat, it is not enough to create a creatine loading effect. You would have to eat 9 lbs. of meat a day to get 20 grams of creatine. You will need oral supplementation if you want to maximize the strength benefits of creatine.       • .. Buy creatine as 100% pure powder, mix it with water and drink immediately. One teaspoon is 5 grams and one tablespoon is 15 grams.

        Pure creatine is all you need. You don’t need a carbohydrate load like some sellers of creatine drinks claim and the gels are no better than the inexpensive powder. The best time to take it is 30 to 60 minutes before exercise but you will still benefit from other dosing times.

      • I recommend taking a loading dose for 10 days.
        Then continue with the maintenance dose for 3 months.
        After a 3 month cycle you have 2 options.

        Option 1; you can stop and use exercise to maintain your gains in performance and lean muscle.

        Option 2; you can switch back to the loading dose for 10 days again and repeat the cycle.

    If you want to shed pounds and build lean muscle you should eat protein at every meal.

    Protein is the only daily essential macronutrient.
    Fat is also essential, but you can survive longer without fat than you can without protein. Carbohydrates, the third macronutrient, are completely inessential to your diet. In other words, your body can make whatever carbs it needs on its own.

    Quality protein is your single most important nutritional concern.

    Chocolate and Flavanoid Health Benefits.

    Research has shown how the active ingredients of chocolate can reduce the risk for a host of serious illnesses, including:

    A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology showed that cocoa significantly improves blood flow in people suffering from type 2 diabetes.     Nitric Oxide.
    Cocoa’s power to improve blood flow lies in its ability to kick production of nitric oxide (NO) into high gear. Pharmaceutical and other drugs work the same way for male performance. NO causes the linings of your blood vessels to relax and open up, improving circulation, lowering blood pressure, and helping your body to deliver oxygen and other nutrients in the blood more efficiently.

    Flavanoids.
    Another reason cocoa’s so good for you has to do with a class of chemicals called “flavonoids.” They’re abundant in fruits and vegetables as well as coffee, tea, beer, and red wine. But cocoa has them in the highest concentration.2

    Flavonoids are actually poisonous anti-microbials.
    Plants make them to guard against attack from microbes and insects.
    They also give fruits and vegetables their color, making lemons yellow and some apples red.

    For years we thought they were potent antioxidants.
    But the latest research shows that’s not true.3 They’re actually poorly absorbed because your body treats them like toxins and tries to get rid of them. This response activates the genes that make something called “Phase II enzymes.” Your body also ramps up production of uric acid.

    Together these compounds modify your body’s response to allergens, disable cancer cells and cancer-causing agents, and eliminate other dangerous substances in addition to flushing the flavonoids out of your system.

    As far back as the 1600s, .. enjoyed its flavor—they used it to treat angina and heart pain. ..

    More good news: you don’t need a lot of flavonoids to get the benefit. Five to nine servings of fruits and vegetable a day will do the trick.

    As for COCOA, don’t reach for regular commercial brands.
    They’re usually packed with bad fat and artificial sugar that cancel out the health benefit. Dark chocolate bars, with 70-80 percent cocoa, are the best sources of flavonoids (go for organic brands if you can; you can find them in most health food stores). They can be a little bitter but have a rich chocolate taste and contain healthy fat.

    I recommend enjoying about 2 to 3 ounces about 3 times a week.




    Chemically exposed males lose attraction to females.

    Commercial produce laced with pesticides may make it harder for men to attract women.

    A team of reproductive biologists at the University of Austin ran a study on sexual behavior using rats exposed to a fungicide commonly used by grape growers.1 One group continued to receive a normal diet without toxins. They injected the other group with the pesticide, separated the females from the males with a wire mesh barrier, and then observed them to see if they continued to mate normally.

    What they found was surprising and very interesting to me:
    the female rats wound up being less sexually interested in males who’d been exposed—and their descendants. But their response to the healthy males remained unchanged.

    The strange thing is that poisoned males and their offspring showed no difference in sexual appetite. And there wasn’t any visible damage to the reproductive systems of either group. The female rats could tell something was wrong with the exposed males, even though they couldn’t see it.

    This led the researchers to the conclusion that there was something more lasting and dangerous going on. They speculated that the pesticide may have turned off or damaged the gene that helps males win females over. They speculated that the same problem may be showing up in humans.

    This is just the latest in a series of studies that show just how damaging toxins in the environment can be to your sex life. We already know that there are hundreds — possibly thousands — of these “sex offender” chemicals in everything from household products to electronics, clothing, furniture, plastic bags, and even the water supply.

    Your body absorbs them through the skin, so there isn’t much you can do to stop them once you’ve been exposed. They can disrupt your hormonal balance, trigger the early onset of puberty in young people, make men more feminine, increase the risk of reproductive cancers in both men and women, and even make men sterile.

    What makes this study unique is we’re now learning that the extent of the damage goes further than we thought. It isn’t just a question of reproductive health. It suggests that these “enviro-toxins” can permanently alter your physiology at the genetic level. That makes the problem even harder to treat — and puts your descendants in jeopardy, since they’ll inherit your damaged genetic material.

    It also means there’s a lot more at stake than sexual activity and pleasure.
    If people become less interested in sex, the future of entire nations may be in jeopardy, since a lot of men and women won’t find attractive partners or have children.

    This may be one of the reasons why birth rates in industrialized nations have fallen dramatically over the past several decades. Women in countries where these toxins are prevalent may simply be losing interest in a large segment of the population of available men.

    To take just one example, birth rates across Europe are falling fast.
    In Italy, demographers worry that the population could drop by a third by 2050. In Poland, the population’s decreased by half a million people over the past six years. Many of these countries are actually passing legislation to pay women to have children.2 Dwindling populations mean fewer working-age people to fuel the economy and take care of the elderly from prior generations.

    Here are a few surefire ways to reduce or eliminate your exposure to these “gender-bending” chemicals:

    1. Try to limit your diet to minimally processed foods
      — especially meats, which tend to accumulate a lot of pesticides and other dangerous toxins. Free-range organic chickens and grass-fed beef are free of most toxins. Wild-caught fish are safe, although some larger fish contain pesticides and heavy metals like mercury. Avoid all “farm-raised” fish, as these are heavily exposed to pesticides. Deep-sea fish like cod, halibut, mackerel, and sardines are your best bet.

    2. If you don’t have access to organic meats, trim the fat off anything you bring home from your local grocery store. Many of the worst chemicals are stored in the fat of the animal.

    3. Same goes for fruits and vegetables.
      If there aren’t any organic options near you, wash all produce thoroughly and consider removing the peels from certain fruits, like apples, since a lot of the toxins are stored here.

    4. Buy household products made from natural ingredients and free from synthetic industrial compounds. These are widely available in stores and on line.

    5. Get a high-quality water filter.
      Pesticides find their way into many municipal water systems.

    Incidentally, if you’re still skeptical, reconsider this: one group of government experts estimated that the average American is carrying around 700 chemicals in their bodies.3 And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention screened 2,500 Americans for 148 different chemicals known to cause cancer, disrupt hormonal balance, and inflict lasting nerve damage. They found amounts of all of them in the bloodstreams of everyone tested.

    What's the real deal on milk? Here's my take.

    Milk is (was) one of Nature's most nutritious foods.
    It's packed with vitamins A, D, B6, B12, E, as well as calcium, beta-carotene, protein, life-giving enzymes, beneficial bacteria, and the right balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids you need, including conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA-an essential fat that's great for your heart, brain, nervous system, and overall health. ...

    It wasn't unusual even up until the late nineteenth century for folks in this country to keep their own cow for milk. Then "pasteurization" and "homogenization" came along as the population grew and demand for milk increased. It enabled dairy farms to sell milk in quantity across great distances without having it spoil.

    This is where the problems started.
    When you force raw milk through metal pipes at high temperature-pasteurize it-or through tiny holes at extremely high pressure-homogenize it-what you get is a lot less healthy product.

    Pasteurizing and homogenizing dissolve healthy enzymes, eliminate a lot of the vitamin content, denature fragile milk proteins, destroy vitamin B12 and vitamin B6, kill beneficial bacteria, and make it easier for bad kinds of bacteria to flourish.

    These process also make the healthy fat and cholesterol in milk more susceptible to rancidity and oxidation, and some research indicates that homogenized fats may contribute to heart disease.1

    Commercial milk comes from grain-fed cows.
    Cows were never meant to eat grains.
    The result is an imbalance in fats and nutrients in their meat-and milk.

    And of course they're pumped full of hormones and antibiotics.
    They eat grains laced with pesticides. They're diseased animals. All of that stuff gets concentrated in their milk. In fact, back in 2004 the USDA performed tested a random number of commercial milk brands and found residues of seriously toxic pesticides in every single one.2

    The obvious solution to the problem would be to get raw milk.
    But it's illegal in twenty-two states. Luckily, there's another option.

    Here's what I do: I go with organic milk from grass-fed cows.
    It's not as nutritious as raw milk, but it's far more nutritious than its commercial counterpart.

    A new study out of Britain found that even when it's pasteurized and homogenized, organic, grass-fed milk beats commercial milk by a country mile.

        It contains:
      • 67 percent more overall antioxidant and vitamin content
      • 60 percent more CLA9, one of the most beneficial forms of CLA, ..
      • 39 percent omega-3s
      • 32 percent less omega-6s

    ..You also want to choose "whole" milk.
    You will not be doing yourself any favors by choosing low-fat or fat-free milk. It turns out that when the fat is taken out of the milk all that's left are the milk sugars which actually make it high glycemic.

    In fact, here's a tidbit for you:
    pig farmers give their pigs low-fat milk because they know it makes them fat.

    So, stick to whole, organic milk.
    It's becoming much easier to find these days. You can find it in health food stores and the organic departments of many grocery stores. You can find raw dairy organic, grass-fed cheeses and butter.

    This last function is the one that’s so important to keeping a healthy outlook while trying to get well. I’m talking about S-adenosyl methionine, or SAMe (pronounced “sam-eee”). SAMe is a “co-enzyme,” which means that it enables other chemical compounds to perform a number of essential functions. SAMe is one of the main building blocks your brain needs to produce neurotransmitters, chemical compounds brain cells need to send and receive signals.

    SAMe raises levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine.
    Dopamine enhances learning, memory, motivation, and even helps with attention and sleep.
    It’s also the key to experiencing pleasure and maintaining an overall sense of well being and a good mood.

    This is something most folks don’t know about when they get sick.
    No matter what the physical cause of your illness may be, staying motivated, positive, and focused on getting better is one of the keys to restoring your health and wellness.

    In my own practice, I’ve found that many of my adult patients have left a health problem untreated for too long because they feel depressed or run down from the pain they’re in. SAMe’s an effective, safe, natural way to eliminate the problem and get them motivated to get well.

    I recommend taking 200 mg per day for at least two weeks. From there I’ll sometimes increase the dose gradually to 400 mg if I’m not seeing results. The only side effects to watch out for are an upset stomach or a skin rash, but these are rare.

    What You Should Really Watch Out For

    We’ve known for years that inflammation of the tissue that lines your arteries (the “endothelium”) is the main cause of atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Endothelial damage leads to the build-up of arterial plaque—a substance made up of bad stuff that gets trapped in damaged tissue, including triglycerides, waste from cellular metabolism, and calcium.

    As plaque builds up over time, it blocks the flow of vital nutrients and oxygen to the rest of your body, including your heart. Starve your heart of oxygen and pretty soon you’ll have a heart attack.

    Plaque build-up around damaged arterial tissue can also cause small ruptures that lead to blood clots. These clots can eventually starve the heart of oxygen by blocking blood flow. And if they break free, they can do damage elsewhere, interfering with your heart’s pumping action—or going to your brain and causing a stroke.

    Inflammation of the arterial linings happens for two main reasons. ..

    (One is) … infectious disease.

    You know that your body responds to foreign invaders by unleashing an army of white blood cells to surround and destroy them. As they attack harmful bacteria and other microorganisms, white blood cells also release a class of hormones called “cytokines.”

    Cytokines kick your immune system into high alert, signaling for “reinforcements” of white blood cells to help combat diseases. Unfortunately, they also cause an inflammatory response across your entire body — including the delicate linings of your arteries.

    This is why people who don’t floss regularly are at greater risk for atherosclerosis and heart attack. The bacteria that colonize the area below your gum line unleash a continuous, low-level flow of toxins into your bloodstream. If they’re not cleared out, your immune system responds, causing the inflammation that can eventually lead to arterial damage.

    It turns out that the presence of cytokines is directly linked to the risk of fatal heart attack. German researchers looked at over 150 patients suffering from chronic heart failure. They found that high concentrations of cytokines in the bloodstream were the strongest predictor of death.6

    A (2nd) major cause of chronic inflammation is free radical damage.
    You already know about the power of antioxidants—they neutralize these breakaway molecules that would otherwise attach themselves to healthy cells and do “radical” harm by disrupting proper function, even damaging DNA.

    When this happens, it’s called “oxidative stress.”
    With enough free radicals running rampant through your body, your arterial walls suffer damage.

    Not only that — free radicals are what turn otherwise harmless substances into plaque. This is one of the most important facts about cholesterol and fat that most doctors still don’t get. These natural compounds by themselves are not only harmless. They’re essential to good health.

    But when free radicals get a hold of them, it’s a different story.
    Cholesterol doesn’t build up in your blood vessels. It’s oxidized cholesterol that binds to damaged arterial tissue and becomes part of the plaque that leads to heart attack.

    Homocysteine.
    A final marker of heart disease risk is an amino acid called homocysteine.
    This is a natural byproduct of cellular metabolism that most doctors don’t usually mention. Every cell in your body makes it as they turn fuel into energy. It gets dumped into your bloodstream afterwards. Think of it as “cellular waste.”

    It just so happens that homocysteine irritates the lining of blood your vessels. Excess homocysteine leads to a chronic inflammatory response that will keep your blood vessels from opening up, or “dilating,” properly. Over time, it can cause atherosclerosis.

    Four Factors for True Heart Health

    1. Keep your cholesterol test results in perspective.
    The bottom line is your total cholesterol levels aren’t much use in predicting your risk of heart disease. What does matter is that your HDL level—the “good” kind of cholesterol—is high enough. If it’s around 85, then it doesn’t matter if your total cholesterol is 150 or 350. Boosting HDL is a cinch. A combination of regular exercise and dietary changes are all you need. Eating more lean meats (either red or white) is a great way to raise your HDL naturally.

    2. Stop inflammation.
    C-reactive protein (CRP)
    is a good indicator of inflammation and an excellent predictor of heart disease. A simple blood test can measure your levels. The good news is that if you have elevated levels there are simple things you can do to lower them.

    The best thing you can do to keep levels low is exercise.
    Studies show that just moderate exercise lowers CRP levels. In people who just exercised a small amount five times a week CRP levels were cut by 30%.7

    3. Supplements.
    I also recommend some heart-saving supplements to my patients such as L-arginine, folic acid, and antioxidants such vitamin E and vitamin C.

    A simple blood test will give you an accurate reading, although your doctor probably won’t run it unless you ask. A level above 10.4 mM/L is abnormally high. I generally shoot for a goal of below 7 with my patients.

    Lowering your homocysteine is also a simple matter of getting the right supplements. Here’s what I give my patients (amounts are daily):

      • Vitamin B12 – 500 mcg
      • Folic Acid – 800 mcg
      • Vitamin B6 – 25 mg
      • Riboflavin (B2) – 25 mg

    In our mixed-up modern world chock full of additives and pollutants, pre-teens are going through puberty too early.

    2. If you have trouble finding organic meats, trim the fat off.
      Many of the worst chemicals are stored in the fat of the animal.

    3. Eat organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible.
      Be sure to wash those that aren't organic thoroughly, or peel off the skin.

    4. Try to avoid foods packaged in plastic,
      or remove the packaging as soon as you get home.

    5. Buy a high-quality water filter.
      Pesticides find their way into many municipal water systems.

    6. Choose clothing with natural fibers.
      Your skin can absorb toxins from manmade fibers.

    7. Avoid non-stick or plastic cookware.
      Stainless steel, cast iron, and glassware are all safe.

    8. Buy household products made from natural and organic ingredients.
      These are widely available in stores and online.

    9. Purify the air in your home with plants.
      Common household plants can filter dangerous chemicals from new carpets or curtains.




    How to Protect and Enhance Your Power to Conceive

    Our modern lifestyle puts both men and women in danger of losing the chance to have children. One study showed that sperm counts in American men dropped by 50% from what they were in the late 1930s.1 Another study reported that the cases of infertility increased considerably between 1982 and 1995 in all reproductive-age groups, with the biggest increase in women under 25.2

    What’s robbing men and women of the chance to share in life's most precious gift?     Chronic high blood pressure can lead to kidney damage, stroke, and heart attack. This is a sobering fact, especially when you consider that many doctors suggest people over 65 should take aspirin regularly as a way to prevent heart disease.

    Bad News for SOY lovers .. infertility.

    It’s in thousands of different products … everything from cookies to mayonnaise. You probably ate some today without even realizing it.

    The USDA says it’s healthier than protein from meat.
    Food makers love it because it’s cheap and easy to process — so much so that the soy industry now provides 71% of the edible fats and oils in our nation’s food supply.1 The FDA says it’s perfectly safe for you to eat.

    .. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health discovered that men who regularly ate even small amounts of soy-based foods had 41 million fewer sperm per milliliter than men who didn’t.2

    Ironically, the 99 men who took part in the study were already patients at a male fertility clinic who couldn’t get their partners pregnant. Scientists tracked their eating habits for six years, keeping on the lookout for 15 soy-based foods.

    It turns out eating as little as four ounces of tofu or drinking a single cup of soy milk every other day caused men’s sperm counts to plummet.

    .. Soy is packed with phytoestrogens, plant-based compounds that your body treats just like the female hormone. These belong to a class of “estrogen mimics” that can make men grow “breasts”— fatty deposits that build on top of your pecs — kill your sex drive, even put you at greater risk for prostate cancer. ..

    This was the largest study ever to look at human soy consumption and semen quality. Until now, most of the data we had came from animal studies. So it lays to rest the question of whether or not the phytoestrogens in soy can affect male reproductive health in humans.

    .. Tofu, natto, and tempeh, all part of the traditional Asian diet, will have the same negative effect as processed soy-derived products like soybean oil.

    .. even a little soy goes a long way when it comes to lowering your sperm count. As little as 115 grams, or about four ounces of tofu, amounts to a single serving, depending on your body weight. That’s twice the amount that made men virtually sterile in the study.

    Check the label. Soy-based ingredients are hidden in plain sight in a wide variety of foods, from baked goods to salad dressings. Here are the names of the food industry’s favorite soy–based products you should avoid:

    One final point for my skeptical readers: you may be wondering how people in Asian societies where soy’s a dietary staple ever manage to have children if it’s so harmful to male fertility. The answer’s simple. They don’t eat nearly as much soy as you’d think.

    Even the soy industry’s own research shows that in places like China, Indonesia, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, people eat only 9.3 to 36 grams per day.3 That’s way below the 115 grams of tofu the men in the study were eating. ..




    Cooking with Motor Oil...

    There is a food in your home right now whose name translates to Canadian Oil and millions of people use it every day to prepare their family’s meal. Are you?

    What’s worse is that the food product is promoted as a healthy alternative to other cooking oils.

    Here are a few of the risks my research turned up on one of the commercial food industry’s favorite ingredients:

    I’m talking about canola oil.

    This is something that’s been marketed for years as a “good” alternative to butter, lard, and other edible fats...but a group of chemists practically made it up from scratch. It isn’t found anywhere in Nature. Chances are you’ve eaten a lot of it without knowing it. You’ll find it in restaurants and kitchens all over the country...and it’s a potential killer.

    Meet the Canola Plant.

    Think about it: olive oil comes from olives. Peanut oil comes from peanuts. So where does “canola oil” come from?

    Here’s a hint: the kind of “plant” it comes from doesn’t need sunlight, soil, or rain to thrive.

    The word “canola” is an industry invention.
    And once you know where it really comes from, you’ll understand why the industry had to come up with a new name for it.

    Canola is an artificial, processed oil made from rapeseed, a flowering plant of the brassica family, which includes cabbage, rutabagas, broccoli and turnips. “Rapeseed” comes from the Latin word for turnip, “rapum.” Not an especially appealing name.

    It also turns out that for most of human history people didn’t think of it as an especially appealing food, either.

    Asians used rapeseed oil to light their lamps for centuries.
    Then during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century, machinists found that it worked well as an engine lubricant. It even played a crucial role in combat operations for the US Naval fleet during World War II.

    Today it’s used in all kinds of industries.
    It happens to be a great insect repellent.
    You’ll also find it in synthetic rubbers, ink, even soap...

    Your Salad Dressing Could Be Toxic.

    You may be wondering how rapeseed oil turned into “canola” oil—and how it came to be considered a food in the first place.

    It all started with the mainstream medical establishment and food industry’s obsession with so-called “bad” fats. Back in the late 70s, they were looking for something to replace corn and soybean oil.

    They’d promoted these oils for years as more healthy than traditional fats like butter, lard, or palm oil. But new science was emerging indicating that the oils they were peddling to the public were actually unhealthy.

    There were other healthy options available, like olive oil.
    But olive oil was too expensive to use because it wasn’t a major crop.
    And it doesn’t blend well into most mass-produced, processed foods.
    So the industry went looking for something inexpensive, “healthy,” plentiful that would be easy to store, transport, and include in commercial food production.

    That’s how rapeseed oil made it onto the industry’s radar screen. It had been widely used in Asian countries. It was cheap, easy to grow, and there was a readily available source nearby, in Canada, where it was farmed in abundance.

    Scientists found that it was rich in what they considered healthy vegetable fats, including omega-3. But there was a big problem: two thirds of the fat in rapeseed oil is “erucic acid.” This is a dangerous toxin that can cause deadly heart lesions.

    Then in 1978 a few Canadian agricultural specialists figured out how to breed a strain of rapeseed that was low in erucic acid.1 Suddenly, the industry had its new “healthy” alternative. And that’s how it eventually got its name: “canola” stands for “Canadian oil, low acid.”

    The problem is that canola doesn’t really resemble the rapeseed oil found in Asia. In places like India and China, they traditionally pre-cooked the seeds before they extracted the oil, and they used stone presses to make it. They sold it soon after they made it, so it was fresh and pure. The process was entirely natural.

    Compare that with the industrial processes used to make canola here: high temperature pressing in metal vats; blasting with chemical solvents to remove the oil; bleaching; soaking in acid; and “deodorizing,” since some of the omega-3 in the oil goes rancid and creates a foul odor.

    Traces of these chemicals remain in the oil, particularly hexane.
    Hexane’s a component of gasoline.
    It’s used to make shoes, leather products—even roofing!
    Its toxic effects on the body are well known.
    It causes nerve damage,2 and the gas emissions from industrial hexane can cause cancer. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency issued regulations on commercial hexane use in 2001 because of the serious cancer risks.3

    They Can’t Back Up Their Claims.

    One of the problems with all the industry’s health claims about canola is that there are virtually no studies of canola’s effects on humans. But the research done in animal studies paints a grim picture.

    Canola has been shown to retard growth and cause heart lesions in rats.4 Newborn piglets fed a formula with canola oil developed a vitamin E deficiency in one study. Vitamin E’s a key ally in overall heart health, protects eyesight, and acts as a powerful antioxidant. They also suffered from sustained bleeding, because a diet high in canola lowered their platelet count (platelets are what help your blood to clot and stop hemorrhaging).5

    Another recent study found that canola worsens high blood pressure, and stroke in rats genetically prone to these health conditions.6

    Yet we’re still hearing about how good canola is for you.
    Millions of Americans are pouring this stuff on their salads or eating foods fried in it, thinking it’s great for their health. They may as well be eating their shoes.

    Try This Truly Healthy Oil From Nature, Not Industry

    For some reason, the word still hasn’t gotten out on this, but there’s a natural plant-based alternative to canola that’s plentiful, and safe for all kinds of cooking. It’s easily digested, free of toxins... and actually comes with a host of major health benefits.

    It’s coconut oil.

    I still scratch my head over why this isn’t the best-selling edible oil in the world. The fact is that conclusive clinical evidence of its health-promoting power has been around for over 30 years.

    The most recent research also suggests that the natural health-promoting compounds in coconut oil can actually prevent free radical damage.8

    Finally, coconut oil contains lauric acid, one of the key building blocks of your immune system and a powerful anti-viral/anti-microbial.

    In other words, you should make coconut oil one of the staples in your kitchen. Unlike olive oil, coconut oil’s stable at very high temperatures, so you can put it on salad or fry with it. It won’t start to smoke and burn your food like olive oil

    You need to eat good quality protein.
    But this seemingly simple task keeps getting trickier. More meats are now "packaged" and you may be eating more of them than you think. For example: do you eat breakfast sausage or bacon with your eggs; luncheon meat in a sandwich or a frozen "dinner entree?"     .. the origin of our modern problem: meat has a very short shelf life.
    To keep selling meat for longer, food manufacturers add nitrates and nitrites. They prevent spoilage, growth of bacteria, and make meat appear red, fresh and vibrant. Then they add artificial flavors so you can't tell that you are eating old, stale meat.

    We've known about the dangers of nitrites and nitrates for decades.
    In fact, the USDA attempted banning their use back in the 1970's. The meat packing industry lobbied hard and won. Research has shown and reconfirmed that nitrites and nitrates promote life-threatening cancers including: breast cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and leukemia.

    Inflammation wreaks havoc throughout your body.

    –Another basic building block of your red blood cells, it’s critical for delivering oxygen throughout your body.

  • Every doctor learns about homocysteine over the course their medical training. So it’s a mystery why most don’t give it a second thought, since its dangers have been documented repeatedly in clinical studies. In fact, the most up-to-date research confirms what I’ve been saying for decades: it’s the most powerful risk factor for heart disease.

    A “meta-analysis” published in the prestigious journal BMJ looked at 72 separate studies involving thousands of people with heart disease.1 It demonstrated conclusively that elevated homocysteine levels can lead to heart attack, clogged arteries, “pulmonary embolism”—blockage of the arteries in your lungs by a blood clot or air bubble—and “deep vein” blood clotting.

    Another key study published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine found a direct link between homocysteine, age-related dementia, and Alzheimer’s.2 Researchers looked at the mental health status of 1,092 patients with a mean age of 76. None of them exhibited signs of dementia at the start of the study.

    After eight years, 111 had developed age-related dementia, and 83 were diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s. The authors found that those with elevated homocysteine levels were nearly twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s.

    Fortunately, lowering homocysteine levels is relatively easy.
    You can do it with a combination of readily available, safe, and inexpensive supplements.

        Here’s what I recommend (amounts are daily):
      • B6 – 50 mg
      • B12 – 500 mcg
      • B9 (as folic acid) – 800 mcg
      • Riboflavin (B2) – 25 mg
      • Trimethylglycine (TMG) – 1,000 mg

    ... One study looked at 625 people over 65 and discovered that those with low levels of these critical nutrients suffered a dramatic increase in Alzheimer’s disease and age-related dementia.4

    So be sure to get your doctor to
    measure your homocysteine levels.

    As you can see, eggs and organ meats are the best sources of choline.

    Men need more choline than women per day, about 550 mg compared to 425 mg for women.

    But as you as age, you need more.
    I usually put my older patients on as much as 1,500 mg per day to get the maximum brain-boosting benefit.




    Good News on Animal Fats.

    Your heart uses animal fat for fuel.
    In fact, your heart is covered with a layer of "animal fat" that it uses as an energy booster during times of stress.

    All native cultures put animal fats at the center of their diet and show no trace of heart attacks or heart disease. The Inuits of Alaska, better known as the Eskimos, eat a diet that is over 90% animal fat. And before they were exposed to the typical Western diet they had no history of heart disease.

    Animal fat (which you probably know as saturated fat) is good for you and your body needs it to stay vibrant and healthy-especially your heart.

    Of course, this goes against everything you've heard your whole life.

      6 nutrients you can use to help control your blood sugar.

    1. Gymnema Sylvestre:
      For more than 2000 years, people in India have used the herb Gymnema Sylvestre to help control blood sugar. In fact, the leaves of this climbing plant are prized by practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine, the holistic system of healing.

      The herb is also called "gurmar," which literally means "destroyer of sugar" in Hindi. This name describes the way that chewing the leaves interferes with your ability to taste sweetness. Because this amazing herb decreases the sensation of sweetness in many foods, it may reduce your cravings for sugary snacks.

      Dr. K. Baskaran published a study involving patients who took 400 mg of Gymnema sylvestre extract daily for 18 to 20 months along with their oral medications.1 This group showed a significant reduction in their fasting blood sugar levels.

    2. Chromium:

      Scientists at the Maryland-based Human Nutrition Research Center were studying the effects of common foods on blood sugar.3 Dr. Richard Anderson, lead scientist and chemist, noticed that when patients ate apple pie... their blood sugar levels actually improved.

      Further investigation revealed it was the cinnamon in the apple pie that helped their blood sugar levels. Researchers discovered that cinnamon actually increases your glucose metabolism.4-7 It contains a compound called methylhydroxy chalcone polymer, or MHCP for short, that works with insulin to help process glucose.

      In fact, a laboratory test conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) showed MHCP increased glucose metabolism by roughly 20 times.

      Banaba Leaf Extract:
      Traditionally, people living in the Philippines, South Asia, and India have brewed a banaba leaf tea to help regulate blood sugar.

      Medical scientists believe that banaba leaf's beneficial effects on blood sugar are due to its high concentration of corosolic acid, a natural compound extracted from its leaves. Corosolic acid mimics insulin by moving sugar out of your bloodstream and into your cells. And numerous scientific studies have proven banaba leaf's effectiveness.

      In one study, patients with blood sugar concerns took a supplement containing banaba leaf or a placebo three times a day for four weeks.8 The placebo group had no change, but the banaba leaf group achieved very good results for blood sugar balancing.

      This helps food sugars reach your cells properly. In one study, patients with blood sugar concerns were divided into two groups.9 Group One received one gram of fenugreek seed extract and Group Two received a combination of dietary control, exercise, and a placebo capsule for two months.

    High Fructose Corn Syrup.
    Agribusiness deception against your health.

    They’re at it again… attacking your health. But they are very clever at it.

    The story starts with two mothers at a backyard picnic … The first mom pours an artificial drink into plastic cups for their kids playing outside. The second mom expresses concern about giving their children anything sweetened with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS).

    “I guess you don’t care what your kids eat,” the concerned mother says. “That contains high fructose corn syrup. You know what they say about it…”

    The other mother replies with a condescending smirk, “What? That it’s made from corn, contains no artificial ingredients, and like sugar it’s fine in moderation?”

    The worried mom looks embarrassed and changes the subject.

    This is one of the new commercials from the manufacturers of HFCS.
    Their new campaign tries to wipe out any concern you may have about their dangerous product. The basic message is: “Hey… you heard wrong. HFCS is natural and wholesome. Don’t listen to the naysayers… this stuff is good for you.”

    These folks are worried. Their artificial sweetener makes BIG money. It’s already in thousands of different products. But people are catching on… HFCS is bad news. And it’s anything but natural.

    HFCS is a food processors’ dream sweetener.
    It’s cheap to produce, easy to transport and store, and blends readily into nearly every kind of food or beverage, from ketchup to beer. It’s everywhere. Check the ingredient labels in your kitchen and I’ll bet you’ll find it in a majority of foods.

    What’s more, it’s a cash cow for the taxpayer-subsidized US corn growers’ market.

    But the “worried” mom’s fears were more than justified.
    There are clinical studies proving HFCS’s toxic effects.

    One animal study found that a diet high in HFCS resulted in elevated levels of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol (which can cause hardening of the arteries and heart attack), lower levels of superoxide dismutase—your body’s number one antioxidant powerhouse—and deficiencies of iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc.1

    That means HFCS can wreak havoc on your immune system, diminish bone and muscle strength, make you impotent, and increase your risk of certain kinds of cancer, including prostate and colon cancer.

    Nature’s source for fructose is fruit (that’s why it’s called fructose).
    It’s not as easy for your body to process as glucose, the sugar that comes from starches. Only the liver can metabolize it.

    But because it’s contained in the fiber of the fruit, fructose normally absorbs into your bloodstream relatively slowly, giving your liver time to digest it. In fact, fructose breakdown is 40 percent slower than glucose breakdown, in part because every cell in your body can convert glucose into energy on its own, without help from the liver.

    HFCS literally floods your bloodstream, overwhelming your liver’s processing capacity. This can lead to liver damage not unlike the kind that afflicts alcoholics. Animals given a diet high in HFCS suffer severe cirrhosis of the liver—scarring, dead tissue, and poor liver function.2 Their livers look a lot like those of hardcore alcoholics.

    As if that weren’t bad enough,
    HFCS also robs your body of critical nutrients, enzymes, and antioxidants.
    We’ve known about this for years. Because it keeps your liver from functioning properly, HFCS causes a number of serious mineral deficiencies that can have a cascading effect on your health.


    This commercial’s just another example of agribusiness trying to make big profits at the expense of your health. The word’s getting out about the true dangers of this product, so they’re getting nervous—and trying to fool the public.

    Anything sweetened with cane sugar is better than HFCS (check the label).
    You might also consider adding stevia to your favorite sweet foods and drinks, since it’s a natural sweetener that’s completely safe and easily metabolized.

    But if you’re looking for a better thirst quencher, drink water.
    It’s not as exciting as a pre-packaged, sickly sweet fruit juice – but your body needs it! A lot of people are dehydrated and don’t even know it.

    By the way, HFCS is not a “natural” product.
    Several of the enzymes needed to make HFCS are genetically modified.
    You would never find this kind of sugar in a natural setting.




    Salt, The many benefits of

    A recent eight-year study of people with high blood pressure found that people on low-salt diets had more than four times as many heart attacks as those on normal salt diets.1

    Salt maintains the electrolyte balance inside and outside your cells and natural salt contains vital minerals your body needs.

        Here are just a few more of the many benefits of salt…
      • Stimulates salivation and helps to balance and replenishes all of the body’s electrolytes
      • Provides renewed energy
      • Gives you a high resistance to infections and bacterial diseases
      • Supplies all 82 vital trace minerals to promote optimum biological function and cellular maintenance
      • Balances alkaline/acid levels in the blood

    When I was in med school we were taught that salt causes high blood pressure and you read about the evils of salt everywhere you turned. The reason doesn’t appear to be science but that there’s just not much money in naturally occurring salt compared to proprietary foods and drugs.

    There’s a lot of money in altering your food.
    But here’s the catch – first they have to convince you that the natural food we’ve been eating for eons will kill you – now you have to buy their new-fangled package of modern substitute food.

    Even so, when I looked at the results used to justify the “salt is bad” campaign I was shocked. The studies I discovered showed exactly the opposite of what you’d heard.

        Here’s a summary:
      • A health outcomes study in Finland, reported to the American Heart Association, revealed that no health benefits could be identified and concluded “our results do not support the recommendations for entire populations to reduce dietary sodium intake to prevent coronary heart disease.”2

      • A ten-year follow-up study to a massive Scottish Heart Health Study found no improved health outcomes for those on low-salt diets.3

      • An October 2007 analysis of a large Dutch database published in the European Journal of Epidemiology documented no benefit of low-salt diets in reducing stroke or heart attack incidence nor lowering death rates.4

    Get the Real “Salt of the Earth”
    Standard table salt is not only highly refined — it’s chemically cleansed and unfriendly to the human body. Unrefined sea salt, on the other hand, is a naturally occurring complex of sodium chloride and a complement of essential trace minerals.

    This is the form of salt your body is designed to digest — the kind of salt that’s been around since humans first walked the earth. Refined table salt, on the other hand, is a modern invention, artificially designed to look white and pour easily. Your body was never meant to absorb it.

    Natural salt is a source of 21 essential and 30 accessory minerals that are essential to our health. That’s why I use sea salt. It’s unrefined and packed with all the trace elements the ancients prized for maintaining health and vigor.


    1. Chloride
      Chloride, along with sodium, regulates the acid/alkali balance in the body.
      It is also necessary for the production of gastric acid which is a component of hydrochloric acid (HCl).

    2. Iron
      Necessary for cell function and blood utilization.
      It's used to make hemoglobin, which carried oxygen in the blood. Blood loss is the most common cause of iron deficiency.

    3. Sulfur
      Found in all cells, especially in skin, connective tissues, and hair.
      Inadequate dietary sulfur has been associated with skin and nail diseases.
      Increased intake of dietary sulfur sometimes helps psoriasis and rheumatic conditions.

      Copper is also involved in protein synthesis and an important factor in the production of RNA.

    6. Potassium
      Stimulates nerve impulses and muscle contractions. It regulates the body’s acid-alkali balance, stimulates kidney and adrenal functioning, and assists in converting glucose to glycogen. It's also important for biosynthesis of protein.

    7. Zinc
      Required for growth, immune system function, sexual development and the synthesis of insulin.
      Proper zinc metabolism is needed for wound healing, and carbohydrate and protein metabolism. It is considered an antibacterial factor in the prostatic fluid, and may contribute to the prevention of chronic bacterial prostatitis and urinary tract infections.

    8. Silicon
      Silicon is necessary for normal growth and bone formation. With calcium, silicon is a contributing factor in good skeletal integrity. Silicon is a main component of osteoblasts, the bone forming cells. Silicon may help to maintain youthful skin, hair and nails.

    9. Sodium
      Sodium regulates the pH of intracellular fluids and with potassium, regulates the acid/ alkali balance in the body. Sodium and chloride are necessary for maintaining osmosis and electrolyte balance.

    10. Magnesium
      An important mineral because it aids in the activation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the main energy source for cell functioning. It also activates several enzyme systems and is important for the synthesis of RNA and DNA. Magnesium is necessary for normal muscle contraction and important for the synthesis of several amino acids.

    11. Cobalt
      Cobalt is essential to the formation of vitamin B12

    More important then the amount of sodium in your diet is the ratio of sodium to potassium.
    Recent research suggests this ratio is critical. While many studies have focused on high sodium content in the diet, it appears that problems with hypertension may be related more to an inappropriate ratio of sodium to potassium.

    Sodium has a special relationship to potassium.
    Sodium is the major electrolyte outside the cells, and potassium is the major electrolyte inside the cells. These two elements work together to maintain fluid balance, transmit nerve messages and control muscle contractions.

    The body monitors the amount of salt and potassium in the bloodstream, as the body has no mechanism for storing electrolytes. When a shortage of either exists, the body secretes hormones that drastically reduce excretion of electrolytes and fluids.

    If you’re worried about your sodium levels you can bring them into balance by making sure you get enough potassium in your diet. Potassium helps neutralize the effect of sodium on your blood pressure, lowers your risk for stroke and heart attack, even prevents the bone loss that can lead to osteoporosis. (Notice that sea salt is rich in potassium.)

    You can eat many potassium-rich foods but it will do you little good unless you are consuming adequate sodium as well. Your body cannot properly digest raw vegetables without salt. People used to eat a salty soup before a meal to enhance digestion.

    Salt re-enriches your saliva so your body can manufacture the proper digestive juices to break down the complex carbohydrates, celluloids and chlorophyll from the vegetables which contain potassium. Without salt no digestion is possible.

    Unfortunately, you probably aren’t getting enough potassium through your diet alone. On an average day, the typical man gets about 3,000 mg – women closer to 2,300 mg. For optimum health, I recommend getting around 5,000 mg of potassium per day.

    It’s easier than you think. Most people think bananas are the best source, but you might be surprised. Cantaloupes, raisins and avocados are all rich in potassium. ..




    Bisphenol A (BPA) and food contamination.

    There’s a good chance you have this chemical in your blood right now…

    The chemical is called bisphenol A (BPA).
    It’s used to make plastics. It’s at the center of a huge controversy.
    Scientists say it’s dangerous. Big business – and the FDA – says, “don’t worry … there’s no risk … don’t ask questions …”

    This chemical ... looks like the hormone estrogen.
    And when it gets into your blood stream, you’re in trouble.
    Extra estrogen will make you fat, slow and tired. It can even wipe out your sex life. If it stays in your blood long term it can trigger cancer or other diseases.

    The test results were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association 1,2 (JAMA). I don’t always agree with their conclusions, but there was a convincing editorial in the issue that published the BPA study.

    Most doctors and scientists are in agreement. The threat of bisphenol A is real.

    The researchers found a powerful link between bisphenol A blood levels and a host of serious health problems, including:

      1. Heart disease
      2. Obesity
      3. Type 2 diabetes
      4. Liver damage
      5. Brain damage
      6. Inflammation
      7. Reproductive cancers and abnormalities
      8. Metabolic disruptions
      9. Decreased antioxidant activity
      10. Low-birth weight babies and other fetal abnormalities

    Exposing you to this chemical is another experiment with your health.
    An experiment you never consented to… And there’s more: When the National Institutes of Health did random blood tests, nearly every American had BPA in their blood.

    Worldwide production of BPA has reached 7 billion pounds per year.3
    The author of the study concluded: “Higher BPA exposure, reflected in higher urinary concentrations of BPA, may be associated with avoidable morbidity in the community-dwelling adult population.”

    Translated into plain English, this means that BPA is responsible for deaths that could have been avoided.

        Don’t wait for the government to protect you. They won't.
        You can help yourself and your family by taking a few simple steps:

      • When possible, choose glass instead of plastic.

      • Eliminate pesticides from your water:
        I recommend drinking only purified water.

      • Wash your vegetables and fruits before you eat them.

      • Cut off any visible fat from meat before cooking,
        since chemicals and hormones from the feed collect in the fat.

      • Avoid processed meats, because they have fat ground in.

      • Avoid processed carbohydrates like bread, cereals, and pasta.
        They make your body release excess insulin, which builds fat and stimulates feminizing estrogen.

      • Eat vegetables high in fiber to keep yourself regular.
        When stool remains in your bowel for a longer time, more estrogen is absorbed.

      • Eat more cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels’s sprouts, and cabbage. They help you excrete excess estrogen.

      • Eat hormone-free food and free range animals whenever possible.

    When it comes to your heart’s health, your doctor may be focused on your cholesterol and not enough on other risk factors.

    One risk factor and predictors of heart trouble that you need to consider when measuring your heart health is your triglycerides. I’ve been warning my patients about the link between triglyceride levels and heart health for years.

    Triglycerides are often overlooked, particularly when cholesterol levels appear normal. High levels can substantially affect your heart’s health.

    Triglycerides are a type of fat found in your blood.
    They provide a major source of energy for you between meals.

    When you eat, your body uses the calories it needs for quick energy.
    Any extra calories it doesn’t use it turns into triglycerides that are stored in fat cells to be used later on. But, if you consistently eat more calories than you burn off, your triglycerides can become too high.

    A simple blood test can show if your triglycerides are in a normal, healthy range.
    Following is a table of the ranges considered when reading your levels.

    Normal     Less than 150 mg/dL
    High        150 to 499 mg/dL
    Very High   500 mg/dL or above

    So what can you do to maintain healthy serum levels of triglycerides?

    The first thing I’ll tell you is that you can do it safely and naturally.

    One of the best things you can do for yourself is to get enough omega-3 fatty acids.
    And one of the best sources is fish oil. I recommend it to all my patients.
    It’s the healthiest fat you can have.

    You don’t always get the omega-3 fatty acid that your body needs from your diet, so supplementing daily with fish oil will make up for it.

    In fact, there are numerous studies that show the benefits of fish oil for heart health. And one recent study showed that treatment with fish oils significantly helped blood lipid levels.1 *

    So for the heart health benefits of omega-3’s try taking one tablespoon of fish oil a day. If you don’t like the taste of the fish oil or for some reason can’t tolerate it, try fish oil capsules. They are a good alternative. They are also a bit more convenient and portable. However, since fish oil capsules are not as potent you usually would have to take several a day.

My grandmother cooked with them, baked with them, and we ate them by the handful for snacks. She always said they were good for you. How right she was.     Flavonoids.
    Walnuts also contain a flavonoid called ellagic acid.
    This powerful flavonoid inhibits the growth of cancer cells.
    Ellagic acid not only protects your healthy cells from free radical damage, but it also helps to detox would-be cancer-causing cells and helps prevent cancer cells from reproducing.

        Other ellagic acid-rich foods are:
      • Berries (blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, strawberries
      • Pecans
      • Pomegranates

    Working all of these foods into your diet will help you protect your body from the dreaded "C" word. Still walnuts are the only super food that offers all these cancer-fighting compounds in one.

    To get the freshest, most nutritious walnuts, follow these tips:

    1. If you're buying walnuts in the shell,
      make sure the shells don't have any defects - look for little wormholes.
      Give the shells a little shake. If they rattle when you shake them, they are probably old and over dried.

    2. Store shelled walnuts in an airtight package.
      You can store them up to about 6 months if you keep them in the refrigerator.
      Up to a year in the freezer.

    3. If you prefer unshelled walnuts,
      look for a freshness date on the package. The high oil content makes them highly perishable. Heat and humidity will speed up the process. As with the shelled walnuts, keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator and they will last for several months too. Longer in the freezer.

    Aside from popping a handful of walnuts in your mouth, there are many ways to enjoy them. Sprinkle a handful on your salad or yogurt, or experiment with your favorite recipes. I like to add them to chicken salad or sautéed vegetables.




    CoQ10 and creatine blocks the loss of dopamine in the brain.
    A new animal study published in the Journal of Neurochemistry shows that taking CoQ10 and creatine blocks the loss of dopamine in the brain (a hallmark of Parkinson's disease), protects cell membranes (they leak with age), and reduces oxidative damage.

    In mice with Huntington's, it improved motor skills and even extended their life.

    CoQ10 protects every organ in your body, especially your brain. Brain levels of CoQ10 start to decline in your 20s and are lowest in stroke victims and those with brain and nerve cell diseases, such as Parkinson's and Huntington's. So it makes sense that getting more CoQ10 could help combat these diseases.

    The best food source is red meat--but make sure that it is grass-fed. Grass-fed beef contains more CoQ10 than any other meat on the planet. But it is still hard to get enough CoQ10 from your diet alone.

    Creatine improves short-term mental performance.

    Over the last 75 years, omega-6s in your diet have soared.
    Now the ratio is about 20:1. The average American eats 10 times more omega-6 than they should. The main sources of these inflammatory omega-6s being vegetable oils, processed foods and grain-fed beef and fish.

    That's where the health “gurus” of the 1980s made another big mistake.
    They mistook the heart disease culprit to be red meat because grain-fed, commercial cattle have the very high, 20:1 ratio of omega-6s to omega-3s. But they never bothered to explain why native cultures – who ate meat from grass-fed cattle – never had a single case of heart disease.

    If you measure omega-6s and omega-3s in wild or grass-fed animals, you get a very different picture. Their ratio is a dramatically reversed – and heart healthy – 0.16 to 1. In other words, the culprit is not the fat in meat. It’s the environment in which cattle are raised that changes the ratio of fats in their body.

    Grain-fed cattle are sick cattle. They’re not supposed to eat grains. It’s not natural for them and it changes their physiology. When cattle lose omega-3s, so do we. By eating their meat, we take on the same problems.

    The Salmon at Your Grocery Store May Cause Inflammation –
    Raising Your Risk of Chronic Disease…

    For years, the medical establishment touted salmon as the ultimate “heart healthy” food, citing its abundance of omega-3s. There’s just one problem: The salmon you buy at your local supermarket is “farm raised.” That means the fish are fed a diet of fish flakes made from corn, cereal grains and other additives…

    This unnatural diet causes the salmon’s omega-3 levels to plummet. And that’s just one of the many biological transformations they go through. The salmon raised “in captivity” are so changed by the experience; the fish farmers have to inject them with an orange-colored dye to make their flesh look like real salmon.

    You may be surprised to find this out, but eating store-bought salmon only gives you a fraction of the omega-3s you would expect to find.

    And then there’s the threat of mercury and other toxins … which is far worse than you may imagine. In 2004, the Los Angeles Times reported new warnings: Farm-raised salmon, “contains such high levels of PCBs, dioxins and other toxic chemicals that people should not eat it more than once a month…”1

    I still recommend eating salmon if you can find a wild, unpolluted source. But don’t be surprised when you have to pay over $20 a pound for wild-caught Alaskan salmon.

    High Levels of the Wrong Fat Leads to Heart Disease and Cancer…

    Farm-raised salmon – and grain-fed beef – have very high levels of something called arachidonic acid. This is a fat from the omega-6 family and is highly inflammatory. And inflammation is one of the leading causes of illness and chronic disease.

    These high levels of omega-6s make the few remaining omega-3s almost unusable by your body. The dominant omega-6s take all the conversion enzymes and produce inflammatory compounds.

    The healthy omega-3s get ignored and are never converted into the anti-inflammatory compounds you really need.

    Mainstream medicine often overlooks the disease-causing power of inflammation.
    And you probably won’t hear much about it from your doctor… But many are calling it the new “plague” of our times.

    Inflammation is your body’s response to injury, irritation or invasion by germs.
    Without it, you couldn’t survive. But our ancient ancestors seldom had a problem with it. With regular access to potent omega-3s, inflammation was tightly controlled.

    But your modern environment hits you with stresses that trigger your inflammation response too often. And when your body is constantly irritated, inflammation takes on a life of its own and becomes a permanent condition.

    When this happens, you’re in trouble… This type of chronic inflammation – known as “silent inflammation” – has no outward symptoms. You may never know it’s a problem until a disease or heart attack hits without warning.

    White blood cells – which are released during an inflammation response – become so many in number, they start to attack the organs and tissues in your body. This leads to the chronic conditions mentioned above.

    Here’s one example: Foods high in omega-6 fatty acids or arachidonic acid – like farm-raised salmon or commercially raised beef – irritate the lining of your blood vessels. This triggers an inflammation response and your body sends white blood cells and other immune fighters to the scene.

    But when this happens day after day, white blood cells start to burrow into the walls of your blood vessels, causing further damage and irritation. Your body responds by plugging up all those tears and injuries with LDL cholesterol. (That’s the bad kind…)
