We are so conditioned by our culture and its lack of spiritual focus and its encouragement of Ego and SuperEgo domination that you may have to read this over a few times to begin to grasp what I am trying to convey. 

In trying to access your Higher Self, the more you expect, the less you get. When you are beginning to build a strong contact with your Spirit Guide, going with an expectation that It should be there as your servant ... is an Ego trip. Humility is hard for the Ego but necessary for spiritual connection. Often Ego interference is in the form of asking for Guidance with the background expectation of "What can you tell me that will make me more happy, successful, rich, accepted, healthy?" This excludes and denies all the Guidance which does not deliver on these Ego aims. 

Our Higher Self is always ready to communicate to us.
It is not that our Higher Self does not want to communicate with us or that It must have a clear connection before it will respond. Rather, it is that without a clear connection, the message we get is so gargled that we can't tell what is from where, or, even what the answer is. You make the fastest progress when you try to prepare yourself to receive Guidance and concentrate on the preparation with a HOPE that you will somehow manage to self-discipline your conscious preoccupations long enough to let it happen. 

Our SuperEgo often contributes to the difficulty by providing the expectation that if we mean well and intend well, we should be rewarded. It does not understand the difference between what others TELL us, teach us, reward us for, and penalize us for not doing ... which humans have determined SHOULD be good, --- from what is Spiritually Guided. So again, we are back to expecting that we should simply be given it. Again, we are not in a spiritual perspective. We are not given Guidance just because we want it. We have to earn it. What have we done for God? What are we willing to do for God? 

Our Reptilian unconscious also contributes to the confusion and our weakness of connection, or, to the strength and clarity of that connection. The early stages of learning to reach your Spirit Guide are best spent in training yourself, empowering your Reptilian mind, with patterns which allow you to more and more efficiently and effectively reach the states of Reverence and No-emotion. Once you reach this combined state, access to your Higher Self is AUTOMATIC. That is where it all is. It is that simple and that difficult. 

Your biggest difficulty and challenge is how much effort and time are you willing to put into self-discipline? Count the number of seconds you have been alive on this Earth. Multiply that by 60. What is the number? That is how much energy your Identity has put into strengthening your skills for dealing with the physical reality. How much are you now willing to put into making a bridge to the spiritual reality? 
 

For success, everyone who wants to access Spiritual Guidance MUST get to a point at which, in reverence (thankfulness for everything they have and can be and have and can experience), that person can set aside their Ego and SuperEgo and open their Unconscious - Reptilian brain to accept a new pattern of communication as a preferred dominant one. 

For true spiritual sincerity and integrity, that state must also be one in which you honestly and ecstatically are ready to receive whatever your Spirit Guide communicates ... even ready to and satisfied with receiving nothing, if that is what must be for now.

You may not be asked, but the following answers you must be able to embrace with joyfulness, without fear or reservation --- with the knowledge that the outcome will be for the best. These are all ones that I have received and acted on, with positive results. The nature of them may be different for you and not as extreme from the perspective of your Ego or SuperEgo, but your sincerity and commitment will be tested.

1. Give your car back to the leasing company within 24 hours, like new.

2. Put your things in order as if you were going to die.

3. Leave where you are living and become homeless within 2 days.

4. Terminate work that you have been intensively working on for 6 weeks.

5. Go on a fast for as long as Guided, lasting 21 days.

6. Terminate a relationship with a person whom you are passionate about.

7. Accept that there will be times when no one is your friend except God.

8. Spend almost everything you have to go to an area you know nothing about.

9. Give all of your possessions away which would be of any benefit to others.

10. Work repeatedly, almost daily, to beyond what you think your limits are.

11. Do all of the above without hesitation, complaint, and with a sense of readiness and positive expectancy because somehow it will contribute to the mission God has for you.

Receiving nothing is an indication that you are not ready yet.
Ready as in taking enough time to devote to the activity. Practicing to the degree that it is important to you. Finding and ensuring a positive environment for spirituality --- both within you and around you. 

You are showing a lack of respect for your Holy Spirit if you try to access your Higher Self without preparation and too early before you reach clearly and strongly the states of reverence and no-emotion. You are approaching it as you would a dog and saying "fetch" as if you are the master. This will never work.
